Ricky "The Bust" Rubio

Pink?? Ricky decided to stay overseas so he could wear a pink uniform?

The Ricky bust or not conversation is almost irrelevant at this point given what we got out of the draft. Unless he is going to turn out to be a surefire first ballot HOFer we could not have done much better, and as he's not our asset, no longer can be, and is now wandering aournd Europe having to play in something that looks like it came from Victoria's Secret for the next few seasons, its just really a dead issue for us.

I dont understand how Rubio could be considered a bust. Is he a bust because he was drafted and then insisted on staying in Europe? He just looks like the same player that I didnt want a year ago.

pretty passes...

i dunno if they mean much, though...

that's the same stuff we've already seen from rubio. we simply won't know if he'll succeed or if he'll bust until he gets to the nba. there's certainly a lot to like, but, like brick said, its all moot at this point, and certainly a dead issue for kings fans, who already have something incredibly special on their hands in tyreke evans, as well as another talented rookie in omri casspi...

if and when rubio makes the transition to the nba, he'll be worth discussing. in the meantime, he's just another euro-leaguer with potential...

The kid can definitely ball.. I would still love to see the kid come to the NBA. He will definitely have a ton of fans with how well he can pass.

I like my Rickys to be a bit more unpredictable.

Yuck, that's not even an attractive pink, that's like salmon. ;)

I don't think it was that great. Meh...

since most people have soured on Rubio....and for some reason he's being considered a "bust" w/o even entering the NBA... take a look at some recent highlights..

http://acbtv.acb.com/video/2400

who considers him a bust? i didnt understand a word that was said in that video but im sure it was a highlight of the top 5 plays of the day or week or whatever time period. not that he is a bust.... but he is one hell of a passer though.... cant wait to see him play in the NBA.

That really doesn't make any sense. Cause rubio is not in the NBA. If this were in the general forum then you'd have a point

He is an NBA prospect, he was drafted in the NBA draft, and an NBA team owns his draft rights. So yeah, I think he's relevant to the NBA. Regardless, it's not a Kings forum so I don't see why a Rubio discussion should be off-limits and we should "get over it."

This is in the NBA forum, so I don't know what you're complaining about.

Maybe because he is not in the NBA. How often are we going to bring up the argument that is Ricky Rubio? Can't we put it away until he's in the NBA? If not, it belongs in the general forum, IMO.

im not brining up the Reke V. Rubio argument.. Im now glad we drafted Reke..I just don't like how people how soured on Rubio..

he still has ENOMORUS potential...

That's ridiculous. So we're not allowed to discuss college, high school, or international players even if they're considered NBA prospects? No one complains about threads on John Wall.

oh you forgot retired/HOF players because technically they're not "in" the nba

He's been drafted, that's close enough really. Its just a pointless argument, and at this point one that shouldn't even hold much resonance wiht Kingsfans. We won on draft day. Wehtehr Minnesota turns out to have eventually gotten a good one or a bust is pretty much irrelevant to us.

It's too premature to make any judgements about Rubio since he hasn't played in the NBA, nor might he EVER play in the NBA at all. Why come to the NBA with all the pressure of being a top lottery pick trying to save a franchise instead of staying in Europe to make pretty passes, and make more money doing so without all the pressure/hype. He's already made the decision for Europe once, don't be surprised if he does it again. If he decides to stay in Europe again in 2 years, THEN you can officially call him Ricky "The Bust" Rubio.

Who is it that's calling Rubio a "bust" around here? I must have missed those posts.

We simply don't know whether he'll be great, good, average or a bust until he actually plays in the NBA. We have Evans and it's looking like a great and possibly franchise-altering pick.

Rubio may or may not do that for an NBA team someday, but at this point, why would Kings fans care? It's irrelevant, because Rubio is no longer an option open to us.

I'm focused on now and the Evans pick has made me quite happy, thank you.

And even if he never comes over, he's only a "bust" for one team, the team that would have wasted a high draft pick on him.

He would not be a "bust" as far as that term is usually used, simply because he would never play in the NBA to prove anything one way or the other.

So since he decided not to pay millions of his own money to play in the NBA that means he may not ever want to come to the NBA? That doesn't make much sense to me. At the end of his current contract, the decision to go to the NBA is far different decision than it was this past offseason. Also, there is a lot more money to be had in the NBA than Europe, especially with his rookie scale.

People seem to have this stereotype about Ricky that since he stayed in Europe means he's like some Fran Vasquez fraidy cat or something. The whole draft/buyout issue was largely mishandled by his agent and parents, I believe that Ricky was getting pushed into decisions by other people. From everything I've seen and read of Ricky, he wants pressure and hype, he wants to play on the big stage and play against the top players. He didn't want it enough to pay a ton of his money in order to do it, but then again he was 18 and had his parents and his agents telling him what to do.

Ricky really isn't going to be able to unleash his game in Europe. People think his game is suited more for Europe when it's really not, they play half court, slow it down, motion offenses. They're not centered around a primary ball handler like many NBA offenses are. In the NBA, the courts are bigger and so are the lanes to the basket. You better believe that's going to entice Ricky.
