NY Times - Quentin Richardson has left the Knicks indefinitely to be with his family after the fatal shooting of his brother in Chicago.

Lee Richardson Jr., 31, was shot multiple times during a robbery late Monday morning in a South Side neighborhood, a Chicago police spokesman said. He was pronounced dead at 5:39 p.m. Central time, the authorities said. Richardson's father, Lee, was also robbed but was not reported to be harmed.

The news reached Quentin Richardson just before the Knicks held practice here early Monday afternoon. He flew home Monday night. The team did not announce his absence until Tuesday morning, saying Richardson left because of "a serious family emergency."

"Out of respect for his privacy and what he and his family are dealing with, we won't comment on any of his personal issues or things that are happening," said the team president Isiah Thomas, who is also a Chicago native. "Our prayers and thoughts are with him. And from an organization and team standpoint, we will do everything that we're supposed to do and beyond."

It is unclear when the 25-year-old Richardson will return to the team.

"The Richardson family has dealt with tragedy before. Another sibling, Bernard Richardson, was shot and killed in a robbery 13 years ago."

Prayers for the Richardson family.

This is tagedy indeed, terrible :( . I can't imagine what must run through your mind when a member of your family is murdered like that. I imagine great anger, but this is something I would never want to experience.

However....one thing I will never understand....and it will never cease to puzzle me....why are these millionaires letting their family continue to live in the quote unquote getto after they made it big. Isn't it the whole point of "making it big" to help you and your family live a good life?. This is not the only case, a few years ago Tyson Chandler's sister was murdered....why was she still living in the ghetto....ahhh this angers me so much  . I guess some people just have different values, the way I was brought up there was always a strong emphasis on helping your family out as much as possible.

/end rant

Some people are just at home in the "ghetto" - you can't take people out of where they've lived their whole life and just transplant them into a classy area. And even if you did, the lifestyle of a lot of these people would lead them back to the ghetto - and probably put them in danger.

Sad.

Whoa.

Sorry, dude, but that is so out of line.

People live where they want to live. Some of them refuse to accept help from their relatives, preferring very strongly to support themselves.

Different values? What about letting each person choose for themselves?

That's the end of MY rant.

My heart goes out to Richardson and the rest of his family. I cannot even begin to imagine how they're suffering right now.
