Davion

As a lottery pick, Davion Mitchell may have had higher hopes for his first two NBA seasons. But I wanted to start this thread to give this brother some love. The dude has been a stud on defense in recent games - and that's what we have needed the most. I thought he was our real DPOG in this last Jazz win - but I do like that Delly got it.

Davion continues to improve and show incredible finishing skills at times. And he's shown maturity for a young lottery pick to accept a backup role behind one of the best PGs in the league. In many ways - he embodies the team first attitude that is required for success. I suspect there will be chances for him to come up big in the playoffs - particularly on the defensive end - and that he will do so.

This is a Davion respect thread.

Davion is a solid role player. We may have had higher hopes for him given his draft position but he has come up big multiple times this season for us and has more than proven himself as a solid rotational player. If his 3 point shot starts to come around I have no problem locking him in to a low end multi year deal.

His draft position was not in the “star” part of the lottery. Folks tend to not look at realistic outcomes for late lottery players (many of them don’t last in the league past their first contract (or they get a prove-it second contract).

If Davion can improve his 3pt shot and take the normal 3rd year leap with the other parts of his game - he is going to be a hell of a player.

The dude is not a natural playmaker - but his play making game has improved dramatically over the past 15 games.

Rooting for Davion for sure!

He has a long term fit on this team if he continues to improve in those areas already mentioned in the thread.

Absolute blast to watch when he's being a menace on defense and forcing guys who normally kill us to pass the rock!

Well right now - in his second year - he's a rotation player on a playoff team. He's not Tyrese level good but for a number 9 pick in a pretty weak draft I think that's OK.

I was gonna make a similar point. The 9th pick in the draft wasn't even technically a lottery pick until 1989.

Now we have 14 "lottery" picks. Do people really expect the 13th and 14th picks to be stars just because they have the word "lottery" attached to them?

Sometimes stars are produced from the 2nd round. But it's rare. The history of draft picks from the back half of the lottery are also sketchy.

For where he was drafted and considering the class he was in, I don't think Davion has been underwhelming in the least. He's a very much needed defensive presence on this team. We all wish his jumper was more consistent, but you can't always have perfect players up and down your roster.

The main thing is, does he contribute to this team's winning ways? I believe the answer is "yes".
