Resurrection of TDOS draft threads?

Anybody interested? I'm thinking of starting one about Movies since the current 3 Movies thread made me remember how many good movies I learned about the last time we had a movies draft.

If you're interested, what other topics? In the past we've had Cars, Albums, Songs, TV shows and Books. We could certainly revisit any/all of them - or add new ones.

What's your take?

I’m in for anything having to do with literature, film, or music. Comedy, as well, might be interesting, if there is interest in stand-up. Could do albums or specials.

I agree it's about time to try to get one of these back together. Movies seems like as good a topic as any. Comedy on its own, I fear, is a bit specialist - we need pretty solid participation here and it's easy for somebody like me to see that topic and think, "Nah, couldn't really come up with a good list anyway".

One thing I would say is that I tend to be in favor of forcing a bit of variety to get some breadth into the selections - for instance with movies, if we were picking 20 I might be inclined to say each drafter can pick no more than 4 movies from any given decade (or a genre restriction, something like that). Actually, in all honesty I think the most interesting draft we've had was the cover songs draft - a lot of people interested, but it took more effort than just "pick your favorite songs" and there was a huge variety of stuff. (The uniquest draft we had was probably the make-your-own-movie draft, but that was nearly impossible to judge at the end!)

But yes, let's bump this idea and see if we can get a crew together!

I might participate. Work is stupid-busy right now and we have a vacation coming up, etc., but I'd at least half-*** an attempt to win.

If there was a shorter version then it would be easier to commit. If it had to last the entire off season you could two shorter drafts, which would maybe allow some specialisation? Sadly, I don't laugh. So no comedy for me.

At one time we were able to fit 3-4 drafts into one off-season. I agree a lot of them took way too much time. Perhaps limiting the rounds to 10 instead of 20?

We started these drafts when my oldest son was 1 year old. Now he’s 10, and he has 7 and 2 year old brothers too :0! Sounds fun :)

The older boys are super excited about doing a draft! My 10 year old wants to do the movie draft, and also suggested an animal/pet/build your own live in zoo and aquarium draft. Any takers for 2 TDOS drafts?

So the next steps would be...

Agreeing on a first topic. Agreeing on the details re the first topic. Finding enough interested individuals.

Movies/ film has been mentioned as a possibility by three. It wasn't on the list of past drafts. I could contribute to that draft with mostly average but sometimes maybe interesting choices, so that's four. Am malleable re topic though.

Actually come to think of it ... movies could be fun. Do we act like Cannes and say we are too good for Netflix only films? Or do we acknowledge limitations are limiting and no doubt we have enough of them in our lives anyway so who cares?

Our first step is still to garner enough interest to make it worthwhile. Having run these for a long time, I know there's nothing worse than starting a draft and not having motivated people participate.

No offense, but I was actually going to run the Movies draft myself. :p

Okay, I'm gong to assume we'll get enough people to participate. I'll go back into the old threads and pull the rules from the old movies thread and go from there. Give me a couple of days. :)
