Remember the Princeton

The Princeton Offense: Desperately tricky to perform, disastrous if done incorrectly...and completely unguardable if done right.

Examples of perfect execution: 2001-2002 Sacramento Kings.

Any questions?

Can you put together some highlight reel demonstrating the Princeton Offense executed by the 01-02 Kings? Or something? Put some effort into a thread? Ya?

Another good example.... City of Sacramento 2013 in its march towards glorious victory in saving the Kings.

There's a whole lot more out there on youtube. Stay positive and remember we have Burkle and Mastrov working to purchase the Kings.

love the way webber set screens for bibby to get open shots. we have 2 similar players that could easily do that....

Great memories! I would love to see the Princeton come back, bu to run it you need 5 good passers on the court at the same time and of course a coach who knws it. When LA tried to put it in place this year it was a disaster. Quite frankly we do not have the coach or the players. Now both those things can be fixed but not over night, and sad to say my man Cousins would need to spend long hours in the gym working on his passing game. He has the basic skills but in the Princeton offense he has to pass out of the double as soon as it forms, it needs to be instinct. Again quite frankly I am not sure we have 4 players on roster who would flourish under the Princeton offense.

BTW we actually DO have the personal to run the Flex offense very well, it's just a shame there is nobody to coach it, unless of course a certain former Utah coach were willing to get back in the game... of course that could also mean Cole Aldrich would start at center.

You need more than just 5 players that are capable passers, but they all have to be able to shoot the ball as well. Coachie developed the Princeton offense at Princeton as a way to take inferior athletes and compete against teams that were susposed to be superior. Cousins certainly has the tools to play within the Princeton offense. His problem isn't with his passing skills, but with his decision making. The Princeton is more discplined. Your not flying by the seat of your pants. Your actuall running plays with options off of those plays.

The Lakers failure had nothing to do with the system being run, but the coach and how he tried to use it. The Lakers had run the triangle for years with Phil Jackson, which is just a variation of the Princeton, so except for Howard, it shouldn't have been that big a deal for them to run it.

I in no way meant to disparage the Princeton, Cousins passing skills or imply that the Princeton it's self was at fault in LA. Yes the Princeton also requires at least 4 capable 3 point shooters. My only point was that at this time we do not have the players that would be able to effectively run it. My other point was that given the team we have and the likely hood that most of them will be on board for better or worse next season, we are are better fit for a Flex offense that when run by a quality PG has been very effective. Seriously imagine Thorton, JT and P Pat running a series of cross key cuts and setting up out side while DMC and Reek run pick and rolls...

I actually think we do have some players who can run the princeton mainly Cuz, Reke, Patterson and to an extent MT/IT. 99->04 was amazing basketball and I can honestly say that I think our squad back then would smoke these Miami boys and show them Sacramento is in fact hotter than south beach.
