Recovery time from delivery? Tina T.?

Does anyone remember when Tina Thompson had her baby last year. I know she had a very difficult time coming back. She has been great in Europe though. DeMya may be in for a bigger challenge than I thought. Does anyone know what is a realistic time for her to be back even for 15-20 minutes a game? Does anyone who followed Utah know if Kim Smith can help in Demya's absence. The best I can tell is that Kim is too small to play post and will just back up Powell and Maiga(not many minutes available there).

Tina gave birth to a baby boy in May 2005, a month before the season started. She returned around mid-season and played only 15 games in the regular season.

Here's an interview that Tina did with Jennifer Azzi regarding her fitness routine and comeback after pregnancy.

Thanks Steven, but she really did struggle.

Tina coming back 15 games in on a May delivery is phenominal. DeMya gets a few more weeks than that. Assuming Walker's body handled things well, maybe we will get her back for the majority of the season.

However, we need to manage our expectations. Tina averaged 10.1 vs. a career avg. of 16.3 in scoring before that and 3 rebounds vs. 7 prior to that. She had 13.8 in playoffs for 5 games and 5.6 rebounds in 33 minutes a game. It does not seem realistic to expect the old Walker anytime soon.

I think their belief has been that she'll have some likelihood of a 4-6 week maternity leave. What that leave pertains to I'm not sure, the time it takes her to resume getting prepared for competition or her return to the active roster. I also noticed that the Bee article says that there is no timetable on her return or they aren't putting one on her return. Given that I believe they put out that 4-6 weeks period initially I'm kinda thinking something might have changed. The Bee article also mentioned that GM Whiz was planning to fill 12 roster spots - so he must be doing that because he does expect DeMya to return eventually because if they really were unsure when she was going to return after she gave birth two weeks ago, I can't believe he'd intentially go into the season rolling the dice with one fewer player if he thought DeMya could not return.

Did anybody else get the feeling that Melody Gutierrez has seemingly quietly replaced Debbie Arrington as the Monarchs' beat writer?

I noticed that, too. I haven't seen anything by Arrington in a while (including horse and car racing), so I wonder if she has moved on.

Can't wait for May 4th! Can we get a petition going to move the first game to April 26? :)

Boy, I'd sign that petition! I'm to be scheduled for surgery the first week of May and the move from the 5th to the 4th makes it a little more unlikely that I can make it. Course, the surgery could be the 5th, it's not yet penciled in...

From the games I saw Utah play over the years, Kim Smith isn't a three or a four on this level, which should probably answer your question. She's too short and not athletic enough to play inside, and too slow to guard the perimeter/too inconsistent scoring outside of 12 feet.

It's important to take note of the post players who are in camp right now.

Tina gave birth to Dylan on May 13th. She was in great shape before and after the birth...the only baby fat Tina had was on the backside. When she finally returned to the court, her stamina was labored and her shot wasn't as automatic. And her three point shot was nil.

I saw Tina Sunday at the open practice. Tina is in pre-pregnancy condition, and the baby fat is completely gone and her shots are back. The best you can hope for this season from Walker is 80% of her usual game...but as I said about Tina, an 80% Walker is better than 80% of all WNBA players.

Enjoy your ring ceremony game!:)
