Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Well, every single time we have posted a thread like this over these past quite a few years now, EVERY single time we put one up before a promising stretch of games, the other Kings teams have always failed to meet expectations. Or we have raised expectations too high given how terrible many of those teams were. Every single time the results of these polls have been too optimistic. Is this the team and homestand where the worm finally turns? Well...we're at that point again.
This may be it. We're 10-20. We have a 5 game cake of a homestand coming up. We should be favored to win 4 of the 5 games. And then we hit the road for an absolutely brutal murderer's row of a dozen games against playoff teams and contenders at every corner, taking right through the end of the month. So this could be it. If we fail on this homestand,, and then go hit the road to face the league's elite for three weeks, by the end of January we will officially be out of any even imagined playoff picture. If we however were to go 4-1, or even 5-0 on the homestand, then you face the brutal schedule from a position of more strength, can aim for 4-8 and some such and still hope to come out of the entire month of games in the .500 range.
So...this is it. 5 games that likely are put up or shut up and go tank:
1/02 PHI (Road Record 3-13, L10: 3-7)
1/04 CHA (Road Record 6-9, L10: 4-6)
1/07 POR (Road Record 13-4, L10: 7-3)
1/10 ORL (Road Record 3-11, L10: 4-6)
1/12 CLE (Road Record 2-14, L10: 2-8)
Oh, and the rest of the month + first game of Feb?: @IND, @MIN, @MEM, @OKC, @NOP, @HOU, IND, DEN, @UTH, MEM, @DAL, @SAN
