Ray mcCallum did you know?

raymac did pretty dang well overall and especially compared to our other rookie guard, which makes the darren collison signing even dumber.

1) depends on whether Collison was signed as a starter or a reserve
2) going into a season where you are trying to win, relying on Ray McCallum as your main/only backup PG is highly dangerous. One injury and your whole season could be scuttled.

That's ambitious given the holy awful that was Ben McLemore last year.

Then again, since there basically are no good SGs anymore, Nick Young might be Top 20.

It's very odd that we don't have more and better SGs in the league. 20 years ago everyone on the playground wanted to be a SG.

I guess players stopped wanting to be like Mike.

The PGs started wanting to be more like Mike and started scoring and hogging the ball more. Or maybe the "SGs" are just shorter these days.

i get what you're saying. that's my argument too. going into a season where we are trying to win, relying on stauskas to be good or ben mclemore to get better is even more dangerous than counting on ray mccallum to be a decent backup

Interesting fact: Despite being drafted in 2010, 2011 and 2013 respectively, Demarcus, D-Will and Ray Mac are all the same age (All are 23, although DMC has a few months on them) with McLemore being 21.

I wouldn't trade any of those 4, or Stauskas. Let them develop.

I don't trade any of them either unless it's an obvious no Brainer I think Ray can be a really good guard in the league and Williams can be a huge x factor for this team if he puts it all together. If IT walks I give the nod to Ray.

After the rule changes PG's became guys that can get to the rim at will(didn't happen before, thus most PG's were your traditional dribble the ball up, set up the offense, only few exceptions and most of those were bench players, these days most PG's are glorified SG's while the traditional PG is the rare to find). Most teams these days are happy with a 3 and D SG.

And then there's the height thing. IT, 5'9" (if barely), DC, 6'0" (maybe bit taller), RayMac, 6'3" - plus Kings other PG in a pinch Nik at 6'6."

Where do you get your numbers?

Per DX, heights w/shoes:

Isaiah Thomas (2011) 5'10.25"
Isaiah Thomas (2011) 5'10.5"
Isaiah Thomas (2011) 5'11"

DC (2009) 6'1.5"

Ray McCallum (2013) 6'1.75"

I find it odd that some people think you never grow at all after the nba combine. As if they have special machine there that stunts growth so their measuments can never be questioned. In fact the human body can get taller all the way to 27 years of age. For real life example a player we kind of documented on several occasions here was Donte Greene. He was 6'9 in shoes at combine and was an easy 6'11 when traded by the kings

And I find it odd that everyone on the team magically gows except IT. May posters here would have us believe he has been shrinking all along. He's demonstrated 3 times in 2011 that he's an effective 5'10"-5'11", but everyone is still doubting he's 5'9". Like he bamboozled the combine and no one else has been able to do so.

I'm pretty sure Donte was grade inflation as well, by the way. Much as we wished him to be that tall, he never looked over 6'9" on the court. Grant and Jerry even called out Kings fans for overstating his height on a broadcast once.

It seems like the Kings went out of their way to inflate numbers of our players. Check out Tyreke's height vs. Harden's height. Yet Harden is listed 6'5" and Tyreke 6'6". Probably the Maloofs way of saying we have our next Jordan/Kobe/Roy(w/knees).

Height with shoes is a stupid stat. Yes I know that nobody plays basketball barefoot, but there's no standard so it's an inaccurate way to compare one player to another. Just look at their barefoot height:

Isaiah Thomas is 5'8.75" while Darren Collison and Ray McCallum are both 6'0.25". Add another inch or so to all of them to get their playing height. According to their measurements, when Isaiah Thomas puts his arm straight up in the air it's 5 inches shorter than either Collison or McCallum doing the same. That's just the simple fact of the matter. Average PG height seems to be creeping up lately with so many bigger guards playing the position now. That makes both Collison and McCallum on the short side and Isaiah obviously on the extreme end. Yes it is a factor on the defensive end, but I think it gets oversold around here at times. It certainly hasn't hindered Thomas very much on the offensive end. But there's no reason to fudge the numbers one way or another to make a point. As I've said before, I don't care all that much that Thomas is 5'10" in shoes. The reason I don't want him back is because he shoots too much and seems to carry with him an air of entitlement about his ability to do so. And because I don't think scoring is nearly as important as team defense and an awareness of who your teammates are and how to make them better, I'm lukewarm on Thomas' overall abilities as a starter.

Oh yeah, and that 5'11" stat is bunk. Don't know what was in the water the day that measurement was made, but unless you believe Isaiah plays in 2" heels it should be obvious that there was extreme fudging going on to get that stat. Not that extreme fudging with prospects measurements isn't common-place in the NBA.

I don't disagree with most of what you just said. My point was that you cannot in the same vein call IT "maybe 5'9" while calling Ray Mac 6'3". You're using one guy's height w/out shoes, while using someone else's height with shoes PLUS an inch. Just ridiculous.

It is ridiculous, but it's not the issue at hand for why he doesn't fit for us. It's his style of play

True enough. I don't know where the whole "Ray is 6'3" notion originated from anyway.

Probably originated from college. If anyone looked up his college stats you would find him listed at 6'3". Not unusual for colleges to inflate the heights of its players. He's just a quarter inch short of 6'2"in shoes, which is probably average for a PG in the NBA. There does seem to be more and more tall PG's entering of late though.

IT is 5' 8.75" which means he is at the extreme side of shortness by NBA standard.

You don't get to be an NBA Champion with that kind of midget starting PG unless you have a Robinson and Duncan tandem playing as your C and PF.

Or short SGs :p By older definitions of PG and SG playing styles
