Random opening night observations

I thought this might be a good way for all of us who were there last night to share our thoughts with our fellow Kings fans who couldn't be there.

Here are my random observations:

*Violet Palmer still sucks
*David Stern is cool
*Shaq is bigger in street clothes than he is in uniform
*Ushers couldn't stop smiling and were all TOTALLY excellent
*Jumo JUMBOTRON great but it had lots of trouble keeping the score display accurate
*Around the league scores kept locking up
*Crowd was quiet at times, partially because it was totally overwhelming for a lot of us...I never really knew what "dream come true" meant until last night
*Kings fans are COOL!
*The place looked CLEAN and SHINY and LOVED
*DFC is TFA (totally f***ing awesome)
*GV has excellent court vision
*GV/IT are an incredible tag-team duo
*Marcus Thornton just looked tired and uninvolved for the most part. I would have rather seen Jimmer, since his lack of defense wouldn't have been an improvement over what MT was and wasn't doing.
*ENTIRE experience, including dinner before we even got to STA, was a sea of Kings fans...purple everywhere.
*As awesome as DFC looked (based on reading the game thread), he was infinitely more awesomer in person. HOLY CRAP! (In the good way.)
*Stomping on the wooden floors still rocks the old barn to the foundations.
*Mike Malone is an honest-to-God real NBA head coach.
*All the activities outside the arena before the game were also a sea of purple and great to start out the night.
*Our illustrious board owner even got his face painted. Unfortunately, I neglected to get a picture.
*Finally got to meet Rockmeister after all these years. :)
*One News10 cameraman kept coming back to my son-in-law and granddaughter. I haven't watched the game yet, but I'll be curious to see how much of the footage made it to the screen.
*It was a great night to be Kings fan. :)

Can I add to this that the sound system sounded out of whack, especially from where I was sitting. Not sure if it was better in the lower sections, but I was sitting basically in the last row of the arena and I could barely hear Moak and Jay Sean...

Pretty good VF21. TFA is right. Sometimes electronics can cause problems as we are learning. I don't expect GV to shoot like that all the time ....... or do I? Very surprising. Something is wrong with MT but I think he has earned our patience. I too had the thought about Jimmer but that's more in retrospect. Depending on what is wrong with MT, putting Jimmer in there might have exacerbated a problem and hey, I'm a Jimmer fan. Depending on what the problem is, I may jump ship and join the Jimmer crazies at least for one year.

Malone is the real deal.

We need a new arena with major league sound. It's not that difficult but it takes an investment. It's worth the wait. The sound sucked over TV also.

More on my experience at the game in my coming game thread post but I'd like to issue a major shout out to the dude a couple of seats away from me who drank so much that he threw up all over the floor and the back of the seat in front of him and had to be taken away by ushers and security midway through the third quarter.

Glad I missed that. Where were you sitting?

The only other "distraction" was the waitress spilling the beers (Mad D's sister?). I liked Scott Moak's comment, "This brief pause in the action is brought to you by Budweiser." LOL!

Also, you weren't alone TyFreak Evans. I was in the lower bowl and the volume for Jay Sean's microphone was just off... I only had problems hearing Scott Moak when the crowd was LOUD!

Section 117. The man in question was somewhere in between Warhawk and I.

Yeah that was awful to smell down the stretch I was several rows behind him in row T
I don't know how you get that smashed on $10 beers, he probably was tailgating in parking lot all afternoon

Bollywood SKD dance routine - B+ Very cool
Jay Sean lip syncing half of his performance ( lowering microphone in mid sentence? Really?) D-
And who is he anyway? Katy Perry would have been way cooler!!!
Sacramento Flippers - A+ especially the heavy set dude that did continuos flips up and down the court - Woot!!

Thanks for the observations. Watching it on NBA League Pass with the Nugget Broadcast team as my only option was horrible.

I've seen this mentioned a few times. Who is your provider? I have directv, watched it on league pass and I had the Sacramento feed. Strange.

to a couple of VF21s points. i was at the game and Violet Palmer literally was sucking the life out of the arena. her nonstop whistles really killed the flow of the game. and also probably had a lot to do with how you mentioned the crowd was quiet at times.

heres some of my observations:

Violet Palmer is THE WORST
Cousins is a freaking monster
Vasquez is solid
McLemore is going to be a big contributor on this team (those jumpshots will start to fall)
Isaiah off the bench is PERFECT
Salmons is absolute crap
because Salmons is crap, my favorite lineup is GV,IT,McLemore (but thats not going to work on defense against most NBA teams)

I don't think I got the full experience telecast VF21, but I distinctly recall thinking during the game that a little girl they showed in the stands looked a lot like your granddaughter.

I'm blaming the atrociously slow food lines. I waited all of half-time and ended up returning to my seats foodless at the beginning of the third.

my hangover would have been significantly mitigated with some nachos in my belly.

go Kings!

New jumbotron is nice but they need to add player stats/game info

The India angle was a little heavy handed imo, but no big deal as long as they dont keep jamming it down our throats. Halftime show was a total flop.

Game was freaking awesome, LONG LIVE THE KINGS!

And LOVE that Kayte is back in action. She is so freaking hot!

New jumbotron is nice but they need to add player stats/game info

they had it at the beginning but whoever was running the scoreboard was having enough trouble just getting the game score right so they took the individual stats down after the 1st 1/4

oh ya my biggest observation of the night:

The Kings only scored 90 points, shot bad, only had 2 players actually play a good game. and they still won!!!!! Mr. Malones defensive minded coaching is already showing on day 1

Violet Palmer? If someone can explain to me why the NBA is better off with a woman referee who is not very good, i'd like to hear the case. How does this make any sense at all? o_O

:)

I'm watching the game now. There were three separate occasions where the News10 camera - with red light on - was about three feet away from my youngest granddaughter. It would be nice to be able to grab a screen capture to be able to add to her scrapbook.

I was there last night and I'll never forget it. There was something happening that I've never felt before at a game. Everybody was pumped, having a great time and finally letting go after so much heartbreak and uncertainty. I think the game itself was secondary.
It was also great to show appreciation to those who had so much to do with keeping the Kings in Sacramento.

It was GREAT to start the season with a win too! Nothing like a nailbiter that comes down to the last shot.

I'm glad I was able to be there.

1. Only female official in the NBA.
2. Only black female official in the NBA.

#1 is enough. Add in #2 and, unfortunately, Violet Palmer probably has job security until the end of time...

(And this is not meant as any kind of political commentary. It's just the ONLY reason I can come up with why Palmer is still employed by the NBA.)

Oh, it gets better.

To set the scene, Mike (of CrownDowntown fame) was sitting on the end of the row, I was next to him, the Captain was next to me, then a little girl and her mom, then drunk guy's better half, then drunk guy.

Little girl dropped her big (6-inch?) cowbell under their seats. Her mom didn't notice, but the Captain and I had heard it fall. Little while later drunk guy's GF/wife had picked it up, kept it, and then gave it to drunk guy, who proceeded to throw up into it and intended to keep it. It was the girl's mom who got security to a) get drunk guy cleaned up and b) get her cowbell back for her little girl.

And sorry I didn't say "hi"! Was kinda occupied with holding the KJ sign, etc., for a good stretch of the game. Didn't know where eveyone was sitting.

Ok, but how does having a single woman official in the NBA help women and/or the association in any way? I don't get the concept. What is the point?

re: Violet

Didn't the NBA try out two female officials for a year, and the press and general sentiment was that Voilet would be cut and the other kept? Then when the other female official was let go, that official went to the press and said it had to do with her not going along with the status quo of the old guard of officials? I recall it all being really weird.

There were originally two yes. The rest I don't recall anything about.

Neither were/are very good, which I think may have set back the movement to integrate more than helped it. There's absolutely no reason a woman can't ref a basketball game as well as a man, but the only one the NBA has is somehow incompetent.

I found some info online. Dee Katner was the other ref and she had a SacBee article where she was surprised by the firing. Mark Cuban also said the league's ref evaluation metric is flawed and Katner should sue. I think that was the controversy I recall.

Fan sentiment was that she sucked, but so did Voilet.

Glad I didn't sit in your section. Seeing a drunken guy puck, probably would have made me puck too. LOL
