Sacramento Kings ‏@SacramentoKings 8m #KingsFans, join @Vivek, @kj_mayorjohnson & more to Long Live The Kings Rally (#LLTKRally) on 5/23 from 5-9 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Park!

The Sacramento Kings today announced LONG LIVE THE KINGS RALLY will take place Thursday, May 23 from 5-9 p.m. at Cesar Chavez Park in Downtown Sacramento.

Kings fans across the region are invited to join Vivek Ranadivé in his first public appearance as the team’s majority owner, along with Mayor Kevin Johnson, Slamson, Kings Dancers and special guests to celebrate the Sacramento community for its unwavering commitment to the team.

This rally is an opportunity for Kings fans, the city and region to come together and celebrate the beginning of a lifetime of Kings basketball in Sacramento. Featuring a live musical performance, this FREE event will pay tribute to the many generations of Kings fans – from those who sported tuxedos and gowns on Opening Night in 1985 to those who attended their first game in 2013.

Fans interested in attending are encouraged to rock their favorite Kings threads and to share their rally experience on social media platforms using #LLTKRally for a chance to be featured by the Kings on-screen at the event and online.

Complete details of rally programming will be revealed on Kings.com in the days leading up to the festivities.

I'd really like to attend this rally, it's the day after graduation for me, and thus absolutely free, but none of my close friends are die-hard Kings fans (and thus will be too tired from work to attend). It would feel kind of weird to go alone. I'm extremely excited for the new ownership group though! I'll definitely be there in spirit. Go Kings! Go Vivek!

I'll be there in spirit, too, while I'm sitting here watching the live stream. God I love high-speed internet. ;)

From a city website:

To accommodate a free Sacramento Kings Rally (Long Live the Kings) to be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., 9th Street between I and J Streets will be closed all day starting at 6 a.m. until midnight.

Parking will be restricted at the following locations:
- 9th Street, both sides, from I to J Street
- 10th Street, west side, from I to J Street
- I Street, south side, from 8th to 10th Street
- I Street, north side, from 9th to 10th Street
- J Street, north side, from 9th to 10th Street
- L Street, south side, between 11th and 12th Street (one space for traffic message board)

Here's a map of parking garages and lots the city operates

If you click on the lot name, you can get more info including rates. You can use cash, credit cards or debit cards at many of the meters, but pay attention to hours and times on the signs. Light rail drops you off a block away, if you can use that. Again, check regional transit for hours of operation.

Wanted to highlight that one, so people can avoid the parking mess in the immediate vicinity.

People should start chanting TY-REKE-EVANS at the rally

make Reke get even MORE attached to the city and not try to bolt

Good idea. I suspect he wonders how well he is liked around here and that is a valid question as some don't like him. They no doubt want him replaced by some ill defined type of player that I have yet to determine. Complaining endlessly does not provide a solution. I am not in the latter group as I think his potential was blown way out of shape in his first year and then he drifted from position to position as coach after coach tried to hammer a square peg into a round hole. This is the risk of hiring unskilled coaches.

If we want him, we need to let him know that or otherwise I would not fault him at all if he left on the next train out of town. I mean he needs to be let known by the fans and in that process the new owners will know how the fans feel. Who knows what info on any of the players is being passed from one ownership to the new one. Given that the Maloofs seem to have a hatred for something in Sacramento, I wouldn't be surprised if they still tried to sabotage the team.

As fans, we have learned that we have SOME power.

I hope Vivek keeps Petrie in some capacity to provide some stability, I hope they fire Smart to provide some stability and I hope Petrie has great input as to the next coach. He has been around as long as anyone and I trust him,. His skill and energy may be questioned but his character cannot. I believe he has this franchise's success very high on his bucket list.

Cheer for Tyreke. Please. Tyreke at half power is better than a lot of guards at full power.

I am going, should be there around 5. I am going by myself because I can't drive home to get my son and back. Anyone meeting up, besides all the crowndowntown crew? I feel sorta weird going solo.

You won't really be alone. You'll be there with tons of Kings fans and you'll have lots of fun. You can start talking about the Kings to just about anybody and Its an instant bond. :)

Well I didn't think I was going to be walking in circles by myself around an empty park :)

About to leave and drive up for this. Anyone from Kingsfans wanting to say hi feel free to pm me. I'd love to meet fellow Kingsfans.

Vivek!!!

Has anyone come across the schedule for the rally? Not going to be there but I'm able to watch about 90 minutes of it during a break this evening. Would obviously love to catch Vivek and the players (particular Webber). Guess I'll shoot for 6:30-8:00 unless anyone has any more specific info.

I'm hoping to make it to this later in the evening. If I do I'll bring my DSLR so I'll have some pictures to share.

Looks like I might be going stag.
