Race to the Bottom thread

What a monumental character building win! Our winning culture is going to be UNMATCHED!
I would like to point out that they have to actually have a winning record first. Before that, the front office has to settle on the right players to draft. And before that, the team has to have a little luck in the lottery. Worst three teams in the league each have a whopping 14% chance for the top pick. Oh, and hiring a coach who actually knows what he is doing would contribute mightily.

And who might that first overall pick be?

Once again, though, it seems I am shouting into the wind.

Question if the Kings have the 4th worst record in the league and #5 has 1 more win but gets the drawn for the #1 Pick will anyone be complaining the Kings should have won more games?

Man this team sucks. The on court product sucks. The record sucks. The win sucks. Deebo shooting away sucks. May your lives be blessing you in other ways right now.

Stephen hopes to return back against the Rockets, my guess is to make a push for the eighth seed.
Maybe, that will equate to two Kings loses against the Warriors.
I had predicted 1 more Kings win in today’s game thread but that unfortunately was spent today, thought our most likely chance of another win was at home against the Warriors. Still some hope we won’t pass the Jazz.

Sport historians may wonder how it is possible for a team to miss the playoffs 18 times in 19 years when more than half the league qualifies for the playoffs every year. This is how.

Don’t put too much effort into this. It’s like shouting into the wind.

That was Slab, which means a "/s" is understood in most posts.

Jake Fisher on Marc Stein’s latest Substack said that the league is looking at a draft credit system.
“A real-life equivalent to the way waiver budgets work in Fantasy Football, which essentially would have meant bidding on incoming rookies like you would with the Monopoly money that gets thrown at free agents in the Fantasy realm.”

This is essentially what the NPB (Japanese Pro Baseball league) does and it sucks because all that essentially happens is all the teams dump all their credits on the same big name prospect only for that prospect to inevitably pick the Yomiuri Giants because they’re the most popular team in the league and based in Tokyo.

I'm sure I've missed some of them, but I've tried to look at all the anti-tanking proposals for how it would theoretically impact the Kings (terribly run franchise that has been bad despite mostly TRYING to field a competitive team in a small, tax-disadvantaged market) and pretty much every single one would just make it more unlikely that the King will be able to not be perennial doormats. It's depressing.

Somewhere the dude who came up with the idea for an auction draft in fantasy football in like the '90s is preparing a lawsuit...

This doesn't make much sense. What is the point of "dumping credits" if the player is free to pick where they sign?

Crap, just noticed the Pelicans are playing a back to back. Portland today, Kings tomorrow.
This doesn’t bode well for the cause.
Must admit, it’s getting increasingly difficult to remain a fan of this team. Put up with another disappointing season only to watch them win senseless games at the end.

Made even worse by the fact that New Orleans doesn't even own their pick and aren't actually trying to tank. A Kings win makes things worse for both teams so I fully expect it to happen.

For all the crap we have endured …. watching this team screw up the tank is the most infuriating thing I have seen. I had some questions about Doug before but I despise him now.

You despise Doug? lol. Thats hating the branches and not the root of the problem. You are most likely just hating an inexperienced coach flailing in the wind to save his record/resume, who probably believes in the "culture he is instilling", thinks he's still fighting for a job somewhere, and who has been told by no one (mismanagement) to knock it off - either your safe or will be 100% fired if you continue prioritizing wins.

Perry is equally an odd target for fan ire. There is no way a GM is going to have the leeway to destroy a tank for his boss... anywhere... without worrying about his job

The problem should be directed at one place, the person who has mismanaged the team now for decades..

I wish I had the fortitude not to look at these threads while perusing the draft/college threads, as I knew this would probably be the road. I'm already in a mode to find fault with all these picks, so it won't be a big deal when we finish with the 7th pick. I'm past getting angry about this though, now that I've taken a step back. If I can't control it, it is what it is.

Consider that Doug Christie is an employee. Additionally, a first year employee in the position that is under intense scrutiny. He has superiors that direct the actions that his employment depends upon. Many posters on here seem to imagine that Christie is making decisions independently and contrary to what he is told to do or what is best for the team according to "higher-ups".

Simply, his superior(s) are instructing him to win games. Christie would likely not directly be told to "tank" since he may be called to testify before league officials. Alternatively, a superior could instruct him to "play for development", give or restrict Player X to certain minutes, or other roster/play decisions. Not following the directives would be ground for immediate dismissal. Christie is not going to defy directives. He does not have carte blanche in any sense.

In conclusion, it is obvious that he is being encouraged to win games at all costs, even if it damages the team in the long run.

I doubt Doug is being instructed to win games at all costs..

I doubt management actually wants that and has IMO made "ethical tanking" moves.

I think they believe in the ethos of not disrespecting the game like the other tanking teams, or Vivek, not known for his financial backing, is afraid of fines, or there are some rule stipulations affecting the Kings roster moves that aren't being explained. But that IMO is mismanagement, because your still not putting the team on equal footing to win games according to how the game is played

Yikes, that sounds terrible. No player is choosing Sacramento. Only the big markets would benefit.

If this were to become the league's solution to the problem, I would boycott the heck out of the NBA until the right thing happens, and that is Adam Silver stepping down as commissioner.

Question if the Kings have the 4th worst record in the league and #5 has 1 more win but gets the drawn for the #1 Pick will anyone be complaining the Kings should have won more games?

Not sure why you're both acting like you know better. The point is to give ourselves the highest floor. It's about playing the odds. Nobody knows which spot is going to move up. We might get lucky, we might not. But prior to the lottery, it's objectively better to have a higher floor. It's mind-boggling that after all these years of basement-dwelling, people who are smart enough to know better are still throwing their hands in the air and acting like it's irrelevant simply because we might get lucky and defy the odds.

I already know the response will be "there will be stars drafted after our pick, we just need to pick the right guy." No s**t. The point is it gets much harder to identify the right guy the further down you pick. And I certainly don't trust Vivek or any of his hires to do that.

The whole thing is tiresome. It's not silly or ridiculous for fans to want this team to put themselves in the best position to get a premium player. We've gone from the worst record to the 4th worst record, and will likely end up 5th. Even accounting for some unavoidable wins, that is malpractice for a team in our position.

If we move up, great. But it certainly won't be due to any form of competence.

The only thing 5th guarantees over 4th is higher odds of winding up 7th, 8th or 9th in the lottery.

5th could luck out over 4th and people might kick themselves for it but now you're just chasing luck. Which is essentially just playing poker with zero strategy whatsoever. You will win sometimes but you'll get beaten in the long run every single time.

Look at the bright side. When we pick 7th all the great prospects will be taken already, so we won’t even have the option to pick the wrong guy. We’ll just be crapshooting at that point; and there’s nothing more Kings than that.

This franchise brings me nothing but joy and I love them for it. <3
