Are you kidding?

An "ELITE" defensive team. Sure we lead in the numbers just as the Suns did in the PF/PA cat. That is the most misleading stat around. We still could not get a stop when need. We still could not get a rebound when it counted. We still could not get a steal/block when it counted.

The Spurs / Pistons are an elite defensive team. Are you suggesting we were as good as they were this year? I surely hope not... I doubt anybody in 2002-3 said we had a great defensive team. This is all talking about the past and numbers...

This is truely a case of misleading stats and the numbers don't mean anything when it comes down to crunch time, because bottom line was we still could not get it done.

Why is it that Bibby played okay D in AZ and played okay/decent D with the USA team? Why is it that Pollard (a non-bitterman) said in an interview that in IN all they do is talk about defense and in Sac all they do is practice offense. GRANTED I will stop you now in saying neither has won anything.

We were not a Defensive power in 2002-3, You guys need to get that out of your heads.

AMEN......

One thing that caught my attention was RA saying that having Mobely in because he is better offensively than Evans was defensively. the problem i have with that is we don't need mobely's offense to win. We have so many other weapons. So we might as well put our best defender on there best offensive player.

We weren't a defensive power in '02-'03 but we were a good defensive team. The reason being is we had both Christie and Jim Jackson who were very good perimeter defenders. We also had Keon playing major minutes and he provided interior D(basically shot blocking) and people were less reluctant to go right down the lane. Our defense fell apart in the Dallas series because of 2 things...Nick Van Exel played out of his head and Keon's minutes dwindled because of "matchup problems". For the life of me I can't understand why Adelman didn't play Tag more than he did.......in case people didn't notice players could not just walk unimpeded down the lane and he disrupted quite a few shots when he was in there.

The major problem with the kings now is that running the princeton offense is not as easy as it was before. We don't have webb and vlade to do the high post. Therefore, Adelman is so determined to have the offense power we had before that he doesn't wanna put guys like tag in there because they will mess up the offense. Maybe it was just all the new players we had from the trades that made everything confusing for Adelman. We need to get our team assembled as quickly as possible in order for us to see what kind of system is going to be best suited for our players and our coach.

I am so sick of the "lame duck" references to Rick Adelman. Last year entering the season he was on the last year of his contract. No one said he was a lame duck. He coached extremely well, the owners saw this, and they offered him a new contract for another year. Coaches enter the final year of their contracts all the time. It doesn't mean you throw out the whole season. If I recall, Nate McMillan was a "lame duck" last year, but he still did a pretty good coaching job. Rick is the coach. The team knows it, and his contract will have ZERO effect on that.

Wow -- not sure I've ever heard Rick really say so much substantive stuff before. Good interview.

I agree. There wasn't any fluff...it was definetly a quality interview...he didn't tap dance around any of their questions which is always nice...great interview....thanks albeitrue for the transcript

albeitrue - Thank you for the transcript...

Excellent interview with Adelman and I was honestly surprised that Grant and Lamb seemed to actually ask decent, relevant questions instead of promoting some agenda of their own. Those were questions I think the fans wanted and needed answers to and I'm glad they were asked.

As far as Adelman's answers go, I have to agree that he was more open than I'm used to and that's good. I think he put the onus on Mike and Peja to step up and improve their games on the defensive end and he said it pretty plainly.

I am concerned about one thing...Grant says "yadda, yadda, yadda"?

;)

But if another player, say Cuttino Mobley, he can do more for you because he's so good offensively, than Maurice can do for you defensively, then you're going to go with the other guy. So I think Maurice showed he can play in this league, now it's up to him to expand his game, and do other things so he can stay in the league and keep progressing

That quote right there show how much Rick values offense over defense. That is another reason why we did not see much of Tag all season. I think we need a coach that values defense more.

I think that's taken a bit out of context --- Adelman had just finished basically saying that while Maurice brought energy on the defensive end, he wasn't always terribly effective because he wasn't as focused as he should have been. Was he still a little bit of a better defender than Mobley overall? Probably so. But he wasn't that much better than Mobley on the defensive end to make up for how much better Mobley is on the offensive end. I think if the comparison were between Mobley and DC, DC would probably be starting for Adelman. It's just that Mo didn't bring enough to the table on the defensive end.
