Question about Pot's contract

If we were to waive Potapenko in order to make room for Amundson or Williams would we still get the money from his expiring contract after this season?

As I understand it, it's as though he played out his contract from the money perspective. It would follow that his salary would come off the books when his contract expired.

Unless Muss has big plans for Pot it makes a lot of sense to waive him if we can bring in a rookie with good prospects.

yeah but he makes like 3 million... then again if he doesnt play....

Yeah, but if you're talking guys who aren't going to play anything but garbage time anyway you don't want to waste money.

Does it really matter if Pot sits on the bench or Williams does (supposing Williams never plays)?

Pay Potapenko $3 million to not even be available to play? That's just silly. His expiring contract is worth more to us as potential trade fodder than just waiving him.

If Williams is, in fact, good enough to keep, the Kings will find a way to keep him. If it means trading expiring contracts for future draft picks, they might do that.

Who's going to trade a draft pick for Potato?

How do I know who'd do it? I do know we aren't just going to waive that kind of money. We'd still be stuck paying it. If you're going to pay it, you might as well keep the player around to do something/anything.

Although I guess the argument would be that you can either pay $3mil and keep Pot to waive a towel, or pay $3mil and keep Admundson/Williams to waive a towel. I agree that that is extremely unlikely, but I guess there is a sort of cracked sense to it if you are just trying to keep a youngster in the system and have no use for the vet. To say that I have never heard of that being donw for an undrafted guy trying to stick in camp though would be an understatement.

The Keon Clark trade comes to mind...didnt we GIVE Utah 2 2nd round draft picks AND Keon just to get rid of him? Apples and oranges here, I imagine, but I dont know who would do that for a guy like Potato, who knows.

I suppose if he is waived , it is possible that if someone claims him of waivers within like 48 hours, they would pay the salary. but most likely would have to pal all 3.7 mil and then someone could eventually sign him to a min contract. either way salary counts against sal cap until end of the year.
