Much ado about nothing, IMHO. It's a #38 pick. If it gives us a body to use against our promising guards in training camp, it's a plus.

Wow that Brockman looks more like a freakin linebacker than a basketball player!!!

No, its an asset. Another piece and a chance to take an opportunity to find a gem. Unfortunately, your mentality seems to be the one that Geoff shares which is why our 2nd round choices seem like such WTF selections. Will it change the future of the team? Probably not. Most 2nd rounders don't. But when you are as bad and directionless as we are, it seems silly to waste it on a "practice player.

Oh egads, I see Gavin sitting there at the mike, do I really want to click that link?

LOL!!!! IM TIRED OF GETTIN PUSHED AROUND!!! IM NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!

whew that was too funny! good call brick!

sdballer - You're assuming he won't work out. I'm saying at the least he's a body to use in training camp but I suspect he might end up being better. But bottom line is, as you pointed out yourself, most second rounders don't do much...

+1, why waste picks on practice players. just grab a bunch that go undrafted if thats the case. we could've had jonas jerebko a foreign with that pick or calathes. heck if either of em turn out to be a good player, someone will want to trade for it or we can bring them over. i think we gave up 2 2nd rd picks for songaila a few years back.

I didn't take what Gavin said seriously about Spencer telling them who to draft. And it's Petrie that makes the call anyway. They got a guy who can likely rebound at the NBA level at #38. Who did they miss out on?

Doesn't mean you should just give up 2nd round picks. There's usually a handful of useful NBA players in the 2nd round. You can get bodies for camp anywhere. You should never give up on trying to get the BPA, especially in the 2nd round.

Was I the only one that was busting up with the Spencer Hawes making the #38th pick!!!

But to be honest if im Geoff Petrie and im sitting there looking at my draft record with 2nd round picks... maybe i'd be open to doing something crazy, like having your starting Center drafting players!!! maybe hawes is on to something! LOL!!! Thats good stuff!

I think Petrie would have taken Sam Young but to be fair he did he Sergio R. and Jon so thats not bad for the 38th pick.

I'm not going to argue for the simple reason I don't know that much about lower tier college players. I don't see this as a big deal as our #38 draft pick isn't going to be stepping on the court much no matter who he is IMHO. If some people think it's that important, I bow to their concerns - but do not share them.

also Jon went about where all the "draft experts" thought he'd go. All the buzz i've heard or read around the league is that everyone likes the pick (the experts that is)

Jon was going to play pro in europe... I think his a solid more mobile Shelden Williams type... He looks to be quicker then Ike also... Never hurts to have a fairly paid big that hustles and can provide some fouls to give.

How about a fairly paid not really very big who does nothing but foul because he can't defend anybody at this level?

If Brockman could defend an NBA caliber big, this would be a different conversation. Then maybe he'd be Animal Smith or Chuck Hayes.

hes still travelling to the US. probably. i like how Geoff Petrie keeps on smiling with these picks..

hope casspi gets Playing time

My guess is it takes a little longer than 24 hours to arrange a trip to the US. He didn't know which team - if any - was going to draft him so it's not like he could book the flight ahead of time. I think I remember hearing something about him getting here in the next day or two.

I am hoping his ceiling is Scot Pollard.

He's 6'7" and fairly groudbound -- no way can he be a Pollard. He'll never be able to guard a 7'0" tall center or close down the lane. He's got be be one of the undersized pure PF scrappers, but thing is most of them marry defense to their rebounding.

I have been to Tel Aviv (only major airport in Palestine/Isreal) a couple times, and it is a 16 hour flight.

Well, one thing to take away from that is Casspi's buyout, $250,000. GP said they would take care of it. Personally, I thought the Maloofs were trying to save money so bad that they would have had GP draft someone else because of it, especially since a lot of people were surprised he was taken as high as he was... and after hearing we may be selling one of our picks, it was nice to hear we went the extra mile money wise for the player we want.
