PRESEASON Grades v. Nuggets 10/18

I believe we all have different expectations when it comes to pre-season.

For me, the winning/losing of games doesn't matter.

Players workout and train during the off-season and should be ready to play come pre-season.

I will give the players "lack of familiarity of each other" ... but, beyond that - we should be able to see SIGNS of what/where/how much a player has improved/worked-on during the off season.

Slow starts ..... uh-huh
Play better in the 3rd quarter .... old habits

Miller and Peja both had better games last night ...

I'll tell you who is COMING TO PLAY ... and that's KT !!!

Bibby has a tall ladder to climb to prove to me he's capable of being a leader.

That's IMO

I havent seen a preseason game yet. Is Bonzi an upgrade or downgrade from Mobley? What about defensively?
I'd say upgrade so far, although it is too early to tell anything. He hasn't really had the chance to match Mobley's ability to step it up in the fourth quarter, but his fit into the offense isn't much worse than Mobley's was, and he is providing good rebounding and post play that is missing from the Kings core. Defensively, I don't know one way or the other. He's had a few nice defensive plays, but I don't remember him being a force out there so far.

For what we need from the other guys, he is an upgrade. As a talent he is also a bit of an upgrade overall, IMO. Not the shooter Cat is, but I think he is tougher, bigger, and meaner.

I think we may all be getting a little too "regular season" in some of our assessments.
Good point^. A lot of these guys would have more minutes to play out of a tough stretch and have all around better games. We are seeing short runs, with limited minutes, and players who might not even be on the floor together for much of the season. Last night wasn't the best game but it's one they can learn a lot from. Good job by Adelman putting the whole game on the kids at the end there, they almost came through and actually battled it out well, if not for Harts injury who knows? I liked the starting five and how they played together. Bibby wasn't hitting anything but was dropping dimes left and right and when they got down early they came right back with everyone contributing a little. This team is going to have to be just that, a team. I think they all are going to have to do little things to add up to a greater good. Brad scoring inside and out, Reef getting to the line and facilitating the offense, Bibby finding other ways to contribute when his shot is off(9 assists), Peja bringing the 3, and moving well, and Bonzi playing D, getting out on the break, and drawing that double team to open up the offense. They may not have been great but they all did good things last night. The younger guys had an off night but I don't expect them to play at the level they have been every night anyway. Harts injury sucks but it sounds minor, I would agree with just about everyone of Bricks grades.

Agree ... I'd say he's a step-up and an upgrade.

Still really early to tell, but the signs are there. with each game and practice, you can see the relationship with RA and the other starters/players coming together.

Same with Shareef ...

I know one thing for sure ... I'm really glad Brian's thumbs are feeling better. He's playing with confidence and attitude.

Bonzi is definitely an upgrade, based on my past viewings, what I've read so far, and the first game I saw of him as a King last night. :)

I still miss Maurice in Sac, always will to some degree probably. I'll still follow him and enjoy him where-ever he is in the league.

Bonzi is great though. I can't wait to see him getting 35 MPG... I sighed when he left the game last night (not because K-Mart was coming in).

Its not to early to tell. he plays in the offense better in 2 weeks than the cat played in 2 months. Not to mention above and beyond better defensivly and passing the ball. Not the 3 ball threat Mobley was but a better post up and slasher and rebouder. all in all very much an upgrade.

I was talkin' about ALL the players - not just Bonzi ;)

Bonzi is a WHOLE NEW PERSONALITY compared to DC or Cat ... players have to adjust to him, as well.

But .... you're right - without a doubt... Bonzi adds a whole new dimension to the Kings. 3's - we've got others that can shoot the 3 --- I'm luvin' the way Bonzi attacks the rim at both ends.

Bonzi Wells is truly a breath of fresh air. Most of the new guys are also.

I have to agree with Al about Mike Bibby. In fact, I think Bibby will have to fight for minutes this year. Adelman is in no mood to coddle him anymore. Bibby's defense is terrible, and so far his offense is also questionable. He will have a very difficult time "imposing" his alleged "leadership" on anyone. I think a new team leader will emerge this year, but I don't know who.

Update:

Maybe Corliss, http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8167

Well defensively he is much better. He is also pretty good at rebounding and he is great at posting-up. I think he is much better than Cuttino. Cuttino had no D whatsoever!

It's pre-season. He's not just gonna start averaging 9-11 PPG, unless he puts an enormous focus on play-making.
