Posting Up vs. Moving the Ball

It seems like there is sort of a dilemma with this team. We have terrific post-up players that are matchup nightmare's every night in Rudy and Demarcus. But when we go to them a lot, the offense as a whole becomes stagnant. I can't be the only one that notices this.

I feel like coach needs to design a better system with that caters to the post-ups, with cutters and more offball movement. Discuss.

I noticed the offense gets a little stagnant as well when posting up.. I agree with the OP, more cutting plays/off-ball movement/backdoor lobs(B-Mac) could really help our offense smoothen out.. DMC and Rudy both have good passing abilities from the post, they just need to be utilized more.

That being said, the offense looks way better then last year. Guys are getting to the line at a good rate, crashing the boards, spacing and timing is better..I think we just need a little more off-ball movement, more passing and take care of the rock a little better to get to that next level.

It does seem odd that we never run a play in the half court, to get Ben a chance going to the rim. Would really like to see more variety in the play sets

Posting up is a recipe for disaster with this team.

Um..no. Its actually our strength. But the key to using post ups effectively is to have off the ball movement and good shooters to convert when the post playerjams it to them when the defense collapses. We don't consistently have either right now.

I will say that Gay and Landry are not guys who I think will consistently pass it out of the post, so Cousins is, as usual, the magic man there who can create space with a post, and then beat the double with a pass. Unfortunately Ben especially has to hit the shots off those passes or sooner or later Cuz isn't going to bother making them.

Cousins is a willing passer out of the double, but really needs to work on seeing it come before it happens.
Cousins is solid in this aspect, it is just that he may be reluctant to pass it out of a double team. Last night he had Ray, Nik/Rudy, Casspi, and Landry to pass it to. 1) Ray has not proven anything thus far so Cousins won't pass it to him with confidence 2) Nik is a baby right now and rushes 90% of his shots 3) Rudy was off of his game all night last night 4) Casspi is not a good 3 point shooter 5) Landry is an even worse 3 point shooter and shouldn't be shooting anything other than a midrange jumpshot. Not exactly the cream of the crop for a supporting cast

Sorry, pet peeve of mine (and others, I know) - you don't need to tell people to "discuss" something. If it is worth discussing, believe me, they will. This isn't a classroom with you as the teacher with a yardstick. ;)

It would help if there were some capable shooters...unfortunately we don't have that right now so the offense will run into walls such as we witnessed.

This post wasn't really necessary lol. People didn't reply to this thread because I told them to "discuss" and clearly that was not my intention in adding that word to the end of the OP. It was just a way to end my post, no need to be so anal And tell me your pet peeves.

Moving the ball solves many problems. But for that to work, everyone has to be moving and looking for who has the better shot at the moment. Posting up, while great for Cuz, means Cuz has to begin finding the open man when he is double/triple teamed instead of trying to bull his way thru and, what seems most of the time, lose the ball. Again if players are moving then it becomes easier for the post-uppers to pass out if they are double/triple teamed.

And your reply wasn't really necessary lol. Your post ended just fine without it!
