Postgame Quotes-vs. San Antonio
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“I don’t have a lot to say. You all saw it. They handled us every-which-way and they came out aggressive. They shot the ball extremely well and we were getting impatient. We didn’t play together. I don’t remember the last time we had three assists at halftime. It was a very poor performance on our part.”
“I thought we’d come out and play a much better game. They (San Antonio) were terrific. They shot the heck out of the ball; they moved the ball and found the open guy. They made the game look easy. The way we played, I was really surprised we were only down by 14 at halftime. We never got any better.”
“As good as it was the other night when we blew out the other team, in this league there’s nothing easy and nothing given. We were playing the best team in the league. We didn’t come with the game we needed to come with. We’re going to have to get together tomorrow at noon and look at some tape and talk about it, and get ready for the Tuesday game. That’s the thing about this league, we have a game coming up right away, and we have to go on the road right away. We better be ready to respond on Tuesday.”
Predrag Stojakovic:
“They controlled the game. It was one of those nights. We have to come back stronger and respond on Tuesday. It was a really bad loss. The Spurs are a great team. They are smart. They know how to take advantage of your weaknesses. They play together, especially on the defensive end.”
“They made a lot of big shots in the first quarter, but we also helped them with our offense. Off the first or second pass, we tried to score and they took advantage of that. They scored in transition, scored in the paint, and scored easy buckets. We’ve got to come back stronger and beat them on Thursday.”
Cuttino Mobley:
“I’m going to focus until the next game actually. We get to play them again Thursday, so I’m going to study some tapes tonight and tomorrow as well as look over New Jersey. I don’t think we came out aggressively. They ran our passing lanes, bumped us, and took it to us. If we want to get to that next level we have to establish when to be rough and when to be lackadaisical. With some teams, maybe you can do that, but they are one of the best teams in the league. As a team, we didn’t come out aggressively. We can’t be accustomed to just chalking games up. You have to look at it on tape and see what they did better and what we didn’t do well and go to the drawing board.”
“We’ve got to get ready for New Jersey now. Coming here, it’s our last home-stand. Then we go on the road and play them [San Antonio] on Thursday again. They’ll be ready for us, and I’m sure we’ll be ready for them.”
“You have to stay mentally ready. I don’t think blaming it on somebody else is going to get you anywhere. You’ve got to kind of look in the mirror and play your hardest and do what you are supposed to do. Sometimes you can’t be mad, there are days like that.”
“It’s our first loss [together]. We didn’t play well. We’ll talk it over tomorrow in practice and see what we can do. We’ll be fine.”

Gregg Popovich:
“What makes Chris Webber such a valuable player is that he can play on the block and shoot the outside shot. Cuttino Mobley is such a valuable player, he helped them because he made a lot of jump shots. He made a lot of three’s right in someone’ face. It was too big of a hole for them to climb out of. Outside of that I really don’t have that much to say.”
Tony Massenburg
“Right is right and wrong is wrong, everything happens for a reason. I was done wrong last year, so when we came in here I just happen to be starting and we happened to win. That’s how it goes sometimes. Basically I just did what all of you saw at the first of last season. That is exactly what I did tonight. I don’t think I did anything that anybody hadn’t seen me do before; I have been playing fifteen years. It turned out good tonight –we shot the ball well and put some pressure on the perimeter players.”
Tony Parker
“I think it started tonight with are defense. I think we played great defense start with Bruce on Peja. We know if we were able to get some stops it would help our offense, we would get some easy baskets in transition.”
“It was a big game for (Massenburg) with what happened last year. He was very motivated and very focused for the game and he played great tonight.”
Tim Duncan
“We came out the gates playing well and defensively we were up for them, contesting every shot they took, taking away their back door cuts and lay-ups. Offensively we got some shots to go early on. Combine those two, we jumped out to an early lead and sustained it.”
