Postgame Quotes-vs. San Antonio

rick_adelman.jpg
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“I don’t have a lot to say. You all saw it. They handled us every-which-way and they came out aggressive. They shot the ball extremely well and we were getting impatient. We didn’t play together. I don’t remember the last time we had three assists at halftime. It was a very poor performance on our part.”

“I thought we’d come out and play a much better game. They (San Antonio) were terrific. They shot the heck out of the ball; they moved the ball and found the open guy. They made the game look easy. The way we played, I was really surprised we were only down by 14 at halftime. We never got any better.”

“As good as it was the other night when we blew out the other team, in this league there’s nothing easy and nothing given. We were playing the best team in the league. We didn’t come with the game we needed to come with. We’re going to have to get together tomorrow at noon and look at some tape and talk about it, and get ready for the Tuesday game. That’s the thing about this league, we have a game coming up right away, and we have to go on the road right away. We better be ready to respond on Tuesday.”

predrag_stojakovic.jpg
Predrag Stojakovic:
“They controlled the game. It was one of those nights. We have to come back stronger and respond on Tuesday. It was a really bad loss. The Spurs are a great team. They are smart. They know how to take advantage of your weaknesses. They play together, especially on the defensive end.”

“They made a lot of big shots in the first quarter, but we also helped them with our offense. Off the first or second pass, we tried to score and they took advantage of that. They scored in transition, scored in the paint, and scored easy buckets. We’ve got to come back stronger and beat them on Thursday.”

cuttino_mobley.jpg
Cuttino Mobley:
“I’m going to focus until the next game actually. We get to play them again Thursday, so I’m going to study some tapes tonight and tomorrow as well as look over New Jersey. I don’t think we came out aggressively. They ran our passing lanes, bumped us, and took it to us. If we want to get to that next level we have to establish when to be rough and when to be lackadaisical. With some teams, maybe you can do that, but they are one of the best teams in the league. As a team, we didn’t come out aggressively. We can’t be accustomed to just chalking games up. You have to look at it on tape and see what they did better and what we didn’t do well and go to the drawing board.”

“We’ve got to get ready for New Jersey now. Coming here, it’s our last home-stand. Then we go on the road and play them [San Antonio] on Thursday again. They’ll be ready for us, and I’m sure we’ll be ready for them.”

“You have to stay mentally ready. I don’t think blaming it on somebody else is going to get you anywhere. You’ve got to kind of look in the mirror and play your hardest and do what you are supposed to do. Sometimes you can’t be mad, there are days like that.”

“It’s our first loss [together]. We didn’t play well. We’ll talk it over tomorrow in practice and see what we can do. We’ll be fine.”

SAN ANTONIO SPURS

Gregg Popovich:
“What makes Chris Webber such a valuable player is that he can play on the block and shoot the outside shot. Cuttino Mobley is such a valuable player, he helped them because he made a lot of jump shots. He made a lot of three’s right in someone’ face. It was too big of a hole for them to climb out of. Outside of that I really don’t have that much to say.”

Tony Massenburg
“Right is right and wrong is wrong, everything happens for a reason. I was done wrong last year, so when we came in here I just happen to be starting and we happened to win. That’s how it goes sometimes. Basically I just did what all of you saw at the first of last season. That is exactly what I did tonight. I don’t think I did anything that anybody hadn’t seen me do before; I have been playing fifteen years. It turned out good tonight –we shot the ball well and put some pressure on the perimeter players.”

Tony Parker
“I think it started tonight with are defense. I think we played great defense start with Bruce on Peja. We know if we were able to get some stops it would help our offense, we would get some easy baskets in transition.”

“It was a big game for (Massenburg) with what happened last year. He was very motivated and very focused for the game and he played great tonight.”

Tim Duncan
“We came out the gates playing well and defensively we were up for them, contesting every shot they took, taking away their back door cuts and lay-ups. Offensively we got some shots to go early on. Combine those two, we jumped out to an early lead and sustained it.”

I guess we can add FTP to the list of names prefixed with "F". FTM and FTP are full of it. We done FTM wrong last year!?! He was a whiny you know what who got in Ricks doghouse for a reason. I hope FTM starts on Thursday and we teach him a lesson.

Which begs the question, what, exactly, is Peja supposed to do? Bowen is allowed to hold him, grab him, push him, but Peja isn't allowed to get him off him. I'm thinking a break away jersey should do the trick. Maybe we will play shirts and skins on Thursday, home team has to wear jeresys. We'll just paint the numbers on.

not such a bad idea ;)

You know, this is where the not so latent enforcer mentality comes out with me, but there is absolutely not a doubt in my mind that the first good opportunity next game I would smash Mass to the ground and then let him know about it. The fact that there is likely not a single Sacramento King to whom that would occur may in the end tell as much of the tale of why we fall short as anything.

I sat with my binoculars trained on Bowen and Peja most of last night since the game sucked. Bowen basically has a hand on Peja the entire game. That offensive foul they called on Peja when Bowen basically jumped out of his way was laughable.

By the way, I don't know how many times we need to let guys go to the basket untouched and not make them pay for it. Please put someone on their ***!!!!

I don't know Brick. I am sure that there are a couple Kings around that share that exact feeling. Hell suit me up for one game and I'll gladly do the dirty work.

I love this guys attitude. I hope it infects other members of the team.

Greg Ostertag played for years with Jerry Sloan. If anyone, I believe he could give TMass "a reading from the good book" (Louis L'Amour). I did notice Tag put TMass on his butt once in the game. I'm hoping he does it again in SA.

TMass has been on 12 teams for a reason. I'm sure at some point he will do his little magic in the Spurs locker room and they'll have to deal with his cancer. My guess is that he's gonna get a real attitude when Rasho is able to come back and TMass has to settle for coming off the bench again. What goes around comes around and I'm waiting with baited breath to see at what point the real TMass steps out and they learn what 11 other teams already know.

And when that happens, I chave a feeling that Pop's doghouse is even worse than Ricks :)

Screw Tony Massenberg... He should be happy we even gave him a contract. We left him off the playoff roster... So what? We needed it for the possible return of Bobby Jackson.

Clearly, you are posting in the wrong thread, unless you are joking.
I am not joking at all. Last year everybody loved T-Mass when he dropped Derek Fisher hard to the floor. And now they hate him kuz he gets a chance to play and proves himself.

That is not why many hate him.

Really? I don't remember EVERYBODY loving him for that?

But I remember Tony did that when the Kings already blew out the Lakers and he was playing garbage mins. Not a real great thing to do especially if you are blowing the other team out.

Yep. Tony gave a cheap-shot to Fisher and lost any semblance of respect some of us had for him.

Loved him? No, never. I don't know what board you may have been on but it wasn't here. The Kings AREN'T about giving cheap shots to players in any games, especially not blowouts.

bojan - You do know that TMass is on his 12th team, right? There's a reason he keeps getting tossed out. He's a cancer. He WILL bite the hand that's fed him in SA. It's not a question of if, it's solely a question of when.

I can still see Ricks expression on his face when FTM did that. You could see him putting a leash on FTM and sending him to the doghouse. I don't like thugs and what he did was a thug move that didn't belong on our team. Best of luck to him in SA. Good riddance.

Yeah F!... TM

I didn't mind TM's toughness... It's something this team needs... Somebody needs to dish out a hard shot every now and then... Send a message... I just don't like him for the bad things he is saying about this organization, tough cookies, you didn't get PT, you didn't make the playoff roster, you've been with how many teams? There's a reason...

Toughness? Was it toughness to slip his foot under Webber? Was it toughness to take a cheap shot against a guard in a blowout game? I don't think that's toughness at all.

There's a difference between sending a message and intentionally trying to end someone's night or even career.

TMass is an embarrassment to tough players. He's not one himself.

TMass may be an ***, but he backed up everything he said last year. He basically called the team soft and unwilling to play defense. Then he went out on Sunday and proved it. He's a pain, he's a problem, but he is right.

I didn't see the game. I didn't know he intentionally slipped his foot under Webber... What a ****ing punk... I hope Ostertag obliterates him!

The only thing TMass proved Sunday is he can still slip a foot under a player in the air with uncanny accuracy.

He hasn't backed up squat. All he's done is make it very obvious that he's still bitter over being shown up for being just what he is - a loose cannon. He'll do something wrong in SA and if he thinks RA was unfair, wait until he gets a load of Pop up in his face.

All Mass did on Sunday was have a good game. Hardly proof of anything. Oddly after whining like a little ***** for the last several months of the season about being behind Chris Webber and Darius Songaila in the rotation, he lands in San Antonio and ends up behind Robert Horry and Malik Rose. Amazing how that happens when you're a scrub.

So he left us, not we asked him to go?
Either way, we do not need cheap players like him.

He had a good game by beating our big men on the post up, by beating them inside on the boards. It is funny that he's behind Horry and Nestorevic now, but I still think he backed up the statements that got him in trouble and I'd hope to see the Kings big men prove him wrong in the next game.

Our premiere big man wasn't on the court, thanks to TMass - a fact some people seem to be continually overlooking.
