Postgame Quotes-at Dallas

Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“We got tired at the end, but our guys played hard. We were there but we gave up too many offensive boards and we turned it over too many times. We had to control the tempo, cut down on fast breaks. It’s hard to win on the road when you give up opportunities like we did. We bonded together and we had a chance to win, we just got tired at the end.”

On responding to the Chris Webber trade:
“We’ve always responded before. Our team is very resilient and if we are to get through this, we’re going to have to fight through this. We’re kind of doing things on the fly. We’ve got to get together, get some wins and we’ve got a chance of being a pretty darn good team if we pull together. Being on the road, making a trade and having Peja out, there are no answers. We have to play hard and smart and we’ll be OK.”

"On playing without Chris Webber in the lineup: “I knew I was going to have pick up my level of play. I didn’t expect to play as well as I did, but a double-double is one thing and a ‘W’ is another. I’ll give up my points to get the win, but it didn’t happen tonight.”

“I’m a little tired, but that’s the way this league is. No added pressure, this isn’t the first time I’ve started. I think I made a few defensive mistakes, and tonight was tough. We only had eight guys and the rotation was kind of short. In this league, you have to be able to push through and come up with big stops at the end. Especially in Dallas.”

Brad Miller:
“It was obviously different without (Chris Webber). He was playing real well for us and not having him out there took some time to get used to. He’s the guy everyone would look to and it was up to the rest of us to step it up. We’re going to have fill his shoes and make adjustments.”

“We only played seven guys basically the whole game. We have to be patient and play our game. Hopefully, we’ll be over this by Saturday. Houston’s coming on strong, we’re going to pick our game up and focus on making the playoffs.”

So Pedja said it, now Brad said it - I guess guys just being careful here. I like it anyways. Nothing wrong with knowing the situation that You are in. Kings will be the 5th seed and after last night - I will take Dallas any time.

It is time for Adelman to earn his extention. If the players have changes their goals to making the playoffs, he either needs to change that mentallity or find a new job.

But he's the one leading the charge....from the start of his season, he's said that his team making the playoffs wasn't a given and that was "their goal"...

Um, why exactly? Its the first order of business. And its also being realistic. Its great to say you are out to win the champinship, but if its extraordinarily unrealistic its just words.

Fact is right now we're only 5 games out of the 8th spot, we're having to integrate half a team basically, and we're on a long brutal road trip. Right now this is about survival mode, not winning a championship.

Survive, continue to fight, make the playoffs, put up a respectable showing there, then head into the summer to rebuild.

Yep, he did say that...a few weeks ago. I listen to a lot of post game quotes from Adelman. He's always been saying their goal is to first make the playoff, then from there, it's a new start and try to roll from there.

I don't hear the SPURS or the SUNS saying that. See the difference?

I'm sure they are...saying the #1 goal is the make the playoff. All NBA teams are since the season started and even today (except for teams who have no chance anymore even if they win the reminder of the games). If you don't make that as your goal...then you won't be in the Playoff which means you have zero chance of winning the trophy. Once you're in the playoffs, it's anybody's game. It's much tougher for the 8th seed to win a Championship than the first seed, but if you're the Playoff anything is possible.

never heard Webb say it either. He wanted the championship.

But, regardless of what they say, you know this team will play it's heart out & take it as far as they can. Brad Miller was on the radio today, and he said they are definitely not giving up.
