Hall of Famer
First, welcome Keith. Hope you do well here. However, more likely than not, Smart is here as an interim coach until the offseason. What possible replacements might the Kings look to Pursue? In no particular order.
1) Keith Smart. Put his name in here, as if he does a good job and gains the respect from the players, he might be deserving of another year on the job.
2) JVG. Will take a lot to get him out of the broadcast booth. However, grew up down the road in Martinez, is a defensive minded coach who would command respect from day one, lay a solid foundation for our players to build on, and has the name recognition.
3) Jerry Sloan. Most are convinced he's done. In the Bee chat going on right now, Voison says word around the league is Sloan is not done coaching, is intrigued by the Kings talent, and prefers small cities. Might be my #1 target.
4) Larry Brown. Just saw a earlier today saying the Kings were rumored to be talking to Brown this past off season, and thought about replacing Westy with him before the season. Not sure if theirs still interest, or how long Brown would actually commit for. Also demands a lot of say in the organization. Still, name and success speaks for itself, and is a better option than most. Still wouldn't be a the top of my list.
5) Brian Shaw. Longtime assistant to PJax. Interviewed, unsuccessfully this past summer for head coaching positions. Might have some promise, and I'd label him a clear underdog in any scenario, but I expect his name to pop up.
6)Elston Turner. Longtime assistant to Adelman, who probably isn't far off from landing a head coaching gig somewhere. A possibility, and as a lontime disciple of Ricks, I'd wager he might have the making of an NBA head coach. Not sure I'd want to find out here though.
7) Eric Musselman. Just revived his coaching career in Puerto Rico, has previous head coaching experience, as is looking to get back into the game.
My #1 target would be Sloan, with JVG at #2. Voison is usually off in her comments, but not sure why'd she make something like this up. If there is any truth to it, I;d start negotiating now.
BTW, #7 was a joke!
Left out PJax and D Nelson because I don't think PJax is a possibility in the slightest, and I don't like Nelson at all.
