Possible guards to sign

Thus far, our SL guards haven't proven much to us and our deficiency in the front court is still alive and well.
Here are some possibilities out there that can bolster our front court.

Will Bynum - Restricted - 27 years old - RE-SIGNED WITH DETROIT
-Strong little tank. Undersized at 5'11" but extremely explosive and strong. He was always ridiculed for not being much of a playmaker before he got into the league, but from what I saw last season, he can definitely be a solid playmaker. I remember he even had a 20 assist game last season and several double digit assist games. Goes strong to the hole, which opens up opportunities. Solid free throw shooter. Not much of a 3pt threat.

CJ Watson - Restricted - 26 years old - S&T TO CHICAGO
Terrific hands with long arms that allows him to be a great on the ball defender. His deceptive length allows him to pick pocket many of the players he defends. Great shooter...both inside and outside the arc. Can be a great addition off the bench as he loves to score in bunches. Great slasher and makes precise cuts. As for his playmaking, he really doesn't look to create. From time to time, he will show you some nifty passes, but he relegates himself to trying to score. He took great strides last season in that department, but still needs to improve his playmaking ability.

Earl Watson - Unrestricted - 31 years old
This is where a veteran's minimum will come into place. Earl is an excellent on the ball defender. Has very quick hands, which allows him to be very pesky. He has 3 pt range and hits the open shot consistently. What I love about him is that he doesn't make stupid decisions and really takes care of the ball. Blue collar guy who can be a great complement next to Tyreke and even Beno.

Jamaal Tinsley - Unrestricted - 32 years old
Here is another guy we can throw the vet's minimum at. The only thing that would scare me from signing Tinsley is that he is extremely injury prone. Also, we really wouldn't be getting him for his shooting ability either. Tinsley is a great defender and can literally set up anybody on the floor. He will find the open man and hit him. Smooth ball handler who can break down defenses with ease...when healthy. Again, this would be a last case scenario.

Jason Williams - Unrestricted - 34 years old - RE-SIGNED WITH ORLANDO
I don't know what is going on in Jason's head, but it sure would be nice for him to finish his career where he started it. The man isn't the erratic and insane kid that he was when he came into the league. Calm and composed, he handles the ball with poise and finds the open man. Isn't the greatest of shooters, but last year was one of the two years where he shot 44%. Can bring the much needed veteran leadership to this club. It wouldn't hurt that a lot of fans from the woodworks would emerge as well. Vet's minimum. Cheap and effective.

Patrick Mills - Restricted - 21 years old
Epic long shot to land him. But, hey...he's a "free agent", so might as well put him on the list. I don't know why Portland would want him to rot on the bench as they have an unlimited amount of guards, so give him to US! Anyway, Mills can be an unconscious scorer if given the opportunity. Extremely quick and aggressive, which allows him to get out in transition and make plays....for himself. He's still 21, so he's gotten a lot better in that department, even as recently as this summer league showing.

Notable mentions: Carlos Arroyo - Re-Signs with Heat, Rafer Alston

no thanks to all. they probably want some $$$. we can just patch w/ a cheapie SL player. if we suck, oh well, just means we get another higher draft pick prospect on the cheap for years instead of paying out of the nose for a "ok" player. we're shooting for long term.

Here's an example of Jason Willams being calm and composed.

If you finished reading the sentence, I meant calm and composed on the court.
Also, that video is after a tough playoff loss if I remember correctly. If a man wants his space, give him his space.

Tinsley, j-will, and earl watson would all be offered vet's minimum on short contracts. Nothing that would strap us long term.

I really liked what little I saw from Jamaal Tinsley when he was at Memphis. Being a point guard and directing traffic for the young guys just looked too easy for him. As a third string point guard, he's top notch. But I think he ultimately got benched in Memphis for Marcus Williams and Mike Conley.

He's not much of change of pace guard though, and for that I would have to lean towards Patty Mills.

Yeah, no kidding...ever hear the term, 'dont poke the bear'?? Well, looking at that clip again, it pretty apparent that the reporters were all up in J-Will's locker space, and they didnt listen to him when he asked the first time. Once again, the media has blown this way outta hand...and even with the F bombs, I still don't consider J-Will to be a bad pick up if we were to sign him...this doesn't make him a loose cannon.

Will Bynum would be a good pickup but I expect him to be resigned as I havent heard much out of Detroit this offseason, so you would expect them to keep this guy as he is a solid backup pg.

I'd add:

Morris Almond
John Lucas Jr

...and check out some of these international free agents:

Keith Langford SG
Tarence Kinsey SG
Jamont Gordon SG

Almond is nice. Lights out shooter, but doesnt play much defense. Lucas would be interesting to work out.

Langford, based on that link you provided is signed through 2011 with the Russian league and getting him would require some buyout, which I doubt the Kings would do for him.

Why did you list all PG's? Beno or even Garcia can act as our backup PG. We need a SG

This is our bench: ??? - Garcia - Casspi - Landry - JT

There's no PG. I don't think we're looking for a guy who will actually get any playing time over Beno Evans and Garcia, but we need to have a 3rd string PG for injuries and things like that. Without one, an injury would devastate the offense, much like we're seeing in the Summer League right now.

I think this is where you get it wrong possibly, no one knows for sure yet what it will be come season opener but we have to assume Garcia is going to be thrust back into starting SG roll with Beno off the bench..

Also Landry or JT will start at PF, Dally or Cousins will start at center.. the other will come off the bench.. that's how i see it working

All the guys listed minus Tinsley wouldn't accept a low offer to be a 3rd stringer on a non-playoff team. I actually like Bynum and Watson, but we'd have to overpay to get them. If we're gonna overpay for anything right now, it needs to be a SG.

I disagree. The only facilitators that we have out there is Tyreke and Beno. Garcia can play the role of bringing the ball up and setting up an offense, but he isn't a true facilitator. Beno is a more of a combo guard and he would play well next to a facilitator.

You are right however. We do need some more depth at the 2 spot as well, but I think addressing the 1 is important because once you cut off the head of the snake...you win and that is exactly what opposing teams will do to us if God forbid Tyreke gets injured.

You forgot Cousins.

I understand the argument, and I agree that every team should have 3 PG's on the team. Actually, I brought up that exact point in the All-time NBA draft a few of us had last year. Anyways, if we could get one of those guys to agree to come here to be a 3rd stringer for relatively cheap, then I'm obviously on board. But I think we should focus more on our starting lineup than on the end of the bench. I like Beno off the bench, but having him start next to Tyreke gives the other team an easy option to just put their PG on Beno instead of having him guard Tyreke. With an actual SG in the lineup, teams won't have that option.

But really we're not making the playoffs this year, so it's not like these issues are due or die for us anyway

Will Bynum Played in Maccabi tel aviv with omri casspi
his a good player and can creat shots for other players but
he his like a shorter tyreke IMO

Supposedly Dallas, the Lakers, and Boston? are in discussions with Lin. Dallas reportedly wants him to run their D-league team, so if he gets an offer to be on the regular roster he would probably take it. Sacto might be nice since he's from Palo Alto.

I'd like to see Petrie take a flyer on Rashad McCants. Read a story on him in ESPN The Mag today. Sounds like he's being given the cold shoulder because of his attitude, but a one year 1 mil contract with incentives sounds good to me. Can flat out shoot the rock. Fills the need at the 2. Only 25 years old. One mistake and he's gone - maybe a clause in the contract that states if he has any 'conduct detrimental to the team' episodes, the Kings can take back half of his salary - something like that. Petrie gambled on Mad Max back in the day and it paid off. Why not try it again?

Count me out of it. He had an opportunity with the Cavaliers this summer but he pulled a Spencer Hawes.

I dont want castaways that need an attitude adjustment on our roster this season...if we only win 35 games with stability and promise for next season, so be it...I'd rather have that in the locker room than Olden Polynice-type negative Nancy's that think they're God's gift to basketball, and whining about their playing time and why they arent starting or scoring 20 points a game. No thanks on both McCants and Clipper castaway Dooling...thank you, that is all.:)

Rafer "skip to my lou" Alston is the one on the list I'm most intrigued with. But Rashad (not man enough for khloe) McCants sounds like a good fit too. we should have just kept him around
