Possible Artest Destinations

Artest to New York for the #23 pick.

We trade our #23 pick along with our #10 and Kevin Martin to whoever draws #1 or #2. We then draft Oden or Durant

Williams
Durant/Oden
Garcia

2nd Round Pick

Add someone in exhange for Miller and the Webber trade garbage. We may take lumps for a year but begin to build around a future superstar. A start and then most likely have another high pick the next season.

No team is trading durant or oden.

This is ridiculous. Would you take anything in trade for the #1 or #2? Those picks are not getting traded this year. Period.

I guess I overrate Kevin Martin's appeal.

Well, umm - Artest to New York for their #23 fits the topic at least.

You have to match salary, so one of the bad NYC contracts would have to come back with him. And anyway, that's nowhere near enough for Artest.

Don't WANT the bad contract. But it would be worth it for another high lottery kid. Easily worth it in this draft. And hey, if they are willing to make it Ricky Davis (yuck) and his ender then better yet. But if its Marko Jaric or whoever that's hardly a deal breaker for me. You give me the #6, I'll take that contract to get it.
Fiar call and now that you mention it Jaric is the "multi dimensional flexible" piece that Petrie seems to like lately :D

What about Ron for Frye/filler contract/their pick.

I'm not really much of a Frye fan because the best case scenario is that he's a soft, nonrebounding but good offensive jump shooting PF/C. I'd be interested in Lee, but he's probably untouchable. I still think the best Artest to NYC deal is going to be a three team variety -- someone who might be willing to take on one of the Knicks' contracts because they badly need a guy like Frye.

The thing is nobody wants Artest. You guys are talking like MN would trade a lottery pick for him. But their owner recently told fans they were going to go get high character guys and Artest would be like a slap in the face. Not to mention he's a franchise killer. Look what he did to Indy and now to us. He won't get a lottery pick.

Isn't Malik Rose an ender?

Artest for Rose/Frye/#23 wouldn't be the end of the world. Could maybe think about expanding it with Q-Rich for KT, as well.

There's some precedent for this type of a deal too, given that Houston gave up the #7 last year (Rudy Gay) for Shane Battier. Pretty much the same sort of deal.

Also, if we're going to deal with the Knicks directly, I still think the best option would be to combine Artest and KT for Steve Francis so you have one big contract that expires in 2009, ask for one of Frye/Lee/Balkman and the #23. I really wouldn't be interested in one or more of their crappy longterm deals of the James/Jeffries/Crawford/QRich variety.

We can always try to con a future first out of Isiah.

Lets put it this way.

If KG goes to management and asks them to get Artest or he walks, they will go out and get Artest.

They were really interested in him when Indiana put him up for trade. Its not like they have shown any reluctance to sign players with questionable character in the past. They had Eddie Griffin on their roster and they traded for Ricky Davis.

I;d ratehr look for a third team, and I;ve mentioned a few in a prior post, willing to take on Frye as a young PF and swap uis their own pick. If you essentially trade Ron for a bad contract, the Knicks #23, and th third team;s...#16 or whatever, that begins to get interesting in this draft. Accelerate the rebuild with multiple picks, maybe even try to package some of them to move up.

I wouldn't really want anyone from the wolves though. Who could we possible take from the Wolves? They are all malcontents.

Malcontent is kind of relative though -- or may be, depending on your coach/situation. Webb, Doug, Bobby, Bonzi, Ron, JJ, etc. were all considered malcontents of one level or another before and after they were here. But get them in the right situation and with the right manager, and the shine comes back on them. There are only a couple of Wovles who are "hard core", and a bunch of them where, different system whatever, they might be ok. Never leaders I think. But ok.

And again, for guys who are roleplayer level guys, well worth it to get a second potential star type draft pick. Guys at that level who are problems, you just tell them to go home and watch TV while you develop your new young core.

After all that happened last year, we aren't getting much for Ron. His trade value is really, really low. A very desperate team might take him on but they are going to be giving us about 60 cents on the dollar. Why most of the posters don't realize this is beyond me.

Would you do this trade?

Artest and Thomas to New York
Francis and Frye to Sacramento.
Bricklayer,

Would you do this trade instead?

Sac
->Artest+K. Thomas
<-S. Cassell+M. Banks+#23 Pick+A. Williams

NYK
->S. Francis+R.Balkman+#23 Pick
<-Artest+K.Thomas

L. Clippers
->T.Thomas+S. Cassell+A. Williams
<-S. Francis+R.Balkman+E.Piatkowski+29th Pick

PHO
->M. Banks+E.Piatkowski+29th Pick
<-T. Thomas

We get the 23rd Pick plus dump Thomas for Enders. I know Banks has 4 more years, but its the only way I could make it work. New York does this for obvious reasons. Clippers need a point guard and they reunite Francis and Mobley + 2 prospects and Mr. Clipper. Phoenix dumps a mistake in Banks for a guy who could help in Thomas, and they still have 2 lower draft picks.

If minnesota can get Artest for pick/filler they HAVE to consider it. They'd be stupid not to.

I think Minn has been stupid not to trade Garnett over the past 1-2 years, so maybe they pass the stupid test. Maybe they are stupid enough to trade for Artest. I'd be jumping for joy if we could get them to part with their #1 and a filler.
