Porter, Rambis and Van Gundy(Stan)

I am not familiar with the coaching styles of, supposedly, the top coaching canidates. Please post what you think are these coaches styles.

Are they run and gun, defensive minded, etc?

This what I found on Van gundy.

Although he has always emphasized defense first, Van Gundy also stressed the importance of teamwork and shot selection on the offensive end. During the 2004-05 campaign, the HEAT set a franchise-record by shooting 48.6 percent from the floor as a team, a +.061 improvement over the 2003-04 season. The +.061 improvement was easily tops in the league nearly doubling the next best improvement. Twelve of Miami’s 14 players with at least one year of NBA experience improved their shooting percentage from the previous season, with five of those players establishing career highs. The effort translated on the scoreboard as the HEAT set a team record with 50 100-point games. Defensively the team still remained one of the league’s best ranking first in blocked shots, fourth in field goal percentage defense and eighth in fewest points allowed per game.

Note however that coincided with the arrival of Shaq, while he was still a major force.

But Stan's resume is impressive. Before Stan: 25 wins. Stan arrives: 42 wins. 2nd year: 59 wins + ECF and likely beat Detroit and go to Finals if Wade does not get hurt. Only the 3rd year flameout as a wart.

As far as style, hard to tell because of the changing personnel and short time span, but I think he has good balance. He's neither a crawlballer like a Carlisle, nor obviously a loosey goosey run n gunner. In his first year, when the talent was young and shaky, they barely scored and looked like a team his brother would have: scored 90ppg, give up 89. But add Shaq and put together a great team and all of a sudden they score 102ppg and give up 95 --not too far off our peak years with Adelman.

I like Van Gundy, I liked him as a coaching choice last year. Plus, I see him having extra motivation on his hands with the backstabbing by Riley.
