Playoff Update

Sadly, the stats are starting to get pretty hairy for the gang.

To make playoffs, at #8 seed now requires 24-12 or .667 rest of season

I'll post a more detailed summary as we get to the all star break

:D But then we would miss piksi and his piksi-isms. They are important for board balance.

how would someone know what we need to do to get in the playoffs. Are we somehow cracked into EXACTLY what the other teams records are going to be and if we are so informed to those teams why can't you tell me if we will infact go 24-12 or what our record will be?

Haha, indeed. That's why you can't set it on that.

we are 5-1 against our division. we have 10 division games left. Lets assume we win 7 of those thats 7 wins. we have chicago twice, atl twice, Portland twice, seattle once and Utah 2 more times and NO 1 more time. thas 9 games agasint suspect teams lets say we win 7 of those 10. thats 14 and 6 so far. Now we still have Washington twice, Millwalkee , Min, Ind Houston and seattle again i just saw that. thats 8 possible wins thats 22 wins so far now assuming we lose those 6 games to aweful teams. here are the teams we have to get 2 wins out of to get that 24 win mark

Dal twice
NJ
SA
Cle
Mem twice

thats 7 games all we need is 2 of those

Its a head scratcher. Just look at our starting lineup in 1 week when everyb ody is healthy

bibby
Bonzi
Artest
SAR
Miller

KT,Kev, and Garcia off the bench

that is better than 90% of the league. It will happen the 7 game win streak is just around the corner Mark MY Words

Sigh. People have been saying this since preseason. But by now hasnt it become ridiculously obvious? NOT HOW IT WORKS! This is not fantasy basketball. Guys being famous and having names is irrelevant. Guys having clashing games and wanting to be on the same positions on the floor does not work. 5 guys all needing the ball and wanting to score is stupid. Roleplayers are invaluable.

When this team restores balance, and then has some time to develop chemistry with its new balance, then we'll have a chance to be good. So long as we remain 5 scorers lacking playmakers/passers and rebounders/defenders we will not.

Ron is here. Given time he will help. We have a star. And hopefully a defensive captain if we can just find him enough defensive followers. But even there there is a question to be answered -- is he a Jordan or a Pippen? It may very well be the latter. In which case he could really use a very strong running mate.

As for the rest...we have to figure out sooner or later who is the #1 option? Not #1a, 1b, 1c, or on our team really everybody is a 2a or 3a. We need a #1. Then we need a #2. A #3. And then everybody else to stay the bleep out of the way and take shots as they come to them. And we need somebody, or multiple somebodies, who take real pride and pleasure in their passing to get it to those #1, #2 and #3 options.
Then we need to discover somebody who's going to be a stud rebounder every single night. Then we have to shore up the interior defense. Then, after all of the above has been sorted out, we have to settle down and let things percolate likely far beyond this season.

Agreed.

I feel that Bibby is not a good #1 option. I know we run the offense through Brad, but I would like to see it go through Bibby. Bibby should run the offense, and we should sign a guy in the offseason or trade for a guy that can be our #1. Hell, if Martin can handle it we should try to give him the shots. He is pretty good when he has the ball. #2 definitely should be Artest. #3 should be Bibby, and #4 should be Brad. As for #5 guy out there, I feel we shold let Skinner in there, or another defensive minded player.

Actually my stats are based upon the season to date record, tracking both road and home records separately then projecting for the rest of the season.

I've been doing it for 5 seasons and so far my mid season predictions have all been within 1 or 2 games of accurate.

In addition, my current #8 seed numbers match the #8 numbers (within a game or two) for previous seasons.

So while it's not 100% it has a pretty proven track record.

Martin, as in Kevin Martin, as an NBA team's #1 option?

Er...no. But if he can keep playing aggressively off the bench he might be able to be an effective 6th man type. Come in firing.

When I was talking about a #1, I was aiming for a stud if Artest cannot be that guy. The sort of player who scores 20-25ppg every single night no matter who he is matched with. Somebody of Artest's stature, but with a different focus.

We can beat the Grizz (they've cooled off) at least once, if not twice, and Dallas or Cleveland.

To follow up on the Grizzlies, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and lost 2 to the Spurs before that.

the jazz play the lakers on tuesday dont they and are 1/2 game behind the lakers for 8th seed... the kings are 4 games behind the lakers.... we could sneak into the playoffs as 7th or 8th seed if the team stops giving up gimmie games to the jazz and raptors....

i wouldnt mind playing the suns in the first round if we could get 7th seed somehow.... that'd be cool.... we could beat them with a healthy roster....

my bad... the lakers play the mavs on tuesday.....

we could do this.... though i wanted a high draft pick..... but with thomas still on the team drafting a bigman is difficult unless he is a 7 footer who can play center as well....

the mavs better not choke this game away.... kobe sort of owns the mavs this season....

Kings only 4 games behind 7 spot in Playoffs

As of 2006.02.06:

1 - Dallas (GB 0.0)
2 - Phoenix (GB 6.5)
3 - Denver (GB 12.0)
4 - San Antonio (GB 0.0)
5 - LA Clippers (GB 8.0)
6 - Memphis (GB 10.5)
7 - NO/Oklahoma City (GB 13.0)
8 - LA Kobes (GB 13.0)

Sactown (GB 17.0)

I still believe!!!!!!! Come on guys put on a string of Ws!!!

GO KINGS!

Hornets lost tonight, Warriors won (surprisingly, I figured the Nuggs would win after that Blazers win), Jazz won (sadly, beat the Bulls in a wild, hard-fought game that went into OT), Wolves won in a fun game, KG's block on Marion rocked.

Like I said, this week is crucial if we want to keep hope of the playoffs, 1 win down, 3 (at least) or 4 more to go. :)

vs. Grizz, vs. Bulls, at Suns, vs. Hawks.

Again, the way to look at this is simply by Won/Loss. We've got way too many teams ahead and around us to worry about competing vs. so and so. Right now the #8 team is a game over .500. Will very likely be just about that by the ened of the season.

So:
Needed to be right there for #8, likely 41-41, .500.

Currently 22-27

So now the "magic record" (to reach .500) would be 19-14 from here on out. Looking a lot more doable than a week ago. To catch/pass the #8 team as it currently stands, about 20-13. To more or less guarantee a spot I think 22-11. To match last year's #8 23-10.

Biggest downer? Of the remaining 33 games, 14 home, 19 away.

So your saying the #8 seed in the West will have 46 wins? In past years that might have been true, but the West is not that strong 1-8. I would guess that 46 wins would get us nothing lower than a 7 seed. 42-43 wins will probably be an 8 seed this year.

If you check his numbers I think he compiled that three games ago when we still had 36 games to go. So he was guessing we needed 43 wins. Which sounds about right.
