[Game] Pistons @ Kings - 11/7/12

i definitely like the players on this team (not you Garcia), and i love the defense, just wish Smart would manage the rotations like a NBA coach, but i guess that wont ever happen :(

ive seen it said many a time on this forum. "Thornton does nothing for the team but chuck up shots"

This is not a necessarily false statement, and it doesn't address his clutchness in any way, shape, form or fashion. A guy can do nothing but chuck up shots, and still be clutch.

He doesn't pass. He had 0 assists tonight. He is a very good scorer though.

thats ridiculous. he gets 3-5 assists every night. he barely even got the ball tonight so it makes sense he had no assists. also when you can shoot like he can, why the hell not let him shoot it

idk if we should be very encouraged by a 2 point win over an AWFUL Detroit team on our home floor. lets hope they can play better against the Spurs friday.

Really? It's a W and W's are always good, especially when you get the bonus of seeing Jimmer have a good night and Cousins have an incredible night, when you consider he didn't lose his cool despite being battered almost as bad as the Piston guy - whose name escapes me at the moment - who ended up with a bruised larynx and black eye. Ironic that he was the one wearing the Pistons uniform when guys like Lambeer used to dish out that kind of punishment every single night.

ya thats a good point. Knight also played well. i guess we will find out on Friday what we should really think about this team. i fear that Smarts Lineups are going to get us destroyed by the Spurs. they may have barely worked against GS and DET, but dont expect it to work against Pop

We'll find out what this team really is about 40 games in. 5 or 6 game sample sizes do not mean much in the grand scheme of things

This is not a necessarily false statement.

it is entirely false. he is always hustling, he is always attacking the offensive boards, seems like he has a offensive rebound and put back every game, which is great for a guy who is roughly 6"3. he also does pass the ball much better than people give him credit for

i also dont understand why Cousins is still playing 32mpg when he isnt even in foul trouble these last 2 games. he should be at 38-40 per game

If Thornton gets 3-5 assisrs every night, why is his career average 1.8?

Now, granted, his average as a King is a whopping 2.4, but that's still a little short of 3-5 every night...

i was referring to this year. plus, hes playing with a bunch of people who cant shoot, so that doesnt help him. everyone can keep hating on Thornton while he continues to hit the Big shots to give the team wins, or at least get them into OT

It is not at all ridiculous. He has averaged 1.8 APG over his career. By every possible measure he hardly passes and not just by guard standards.

As far as facing the Spurs on Friday, they're not gonna be in a very good mood when they get here. The Clippers are ruining their Wednesday night right now and, knowing Pop, the Spurs will not lose two in a row. We'll have our work cut out for us and then some.

Come on, dude. Excuses are like body parts. Everybody has them.

Thornton does several things well, but assisting isn't one of them. People can and will be critical of various players but it certainly doesn't mean they're "hating on" them.

ya, this is not good. we will definitely see what this team is made of on Friday. lets hope Smart doesn't think its a good idea to throw out his experimental lineups on the court against Greg Popovich

not making excuses, just trying to point out that it is ridiculous for people on here to call Thornton nothing but a chucker

???

You and I certainly see things differently. I don't think Friday's game is going to be a defining moment for our young Kings team, at least in the way you're thinking. I actually thought Smart did a pretty good job tonight, and his post-game interview made it clear that the message he wants to instill in all the players is that this is a TEAM and not just a few players who get all the minutes. I could be wrong (it would be far from the first time) but I actually believe that's the philosophy Popovich has always followed with his teams.

One game at a time, one step at a time.

Well, the good news is that the Spurs don't have a whole lot of quality depth inside, beyond Duncan. Splitter is still a year or so away from being an NBA-ready player, Blair seems to be in Pop's doghouse, and Diaw is hardly a lockdown defender. If nothing else, Thompson has shown that he's not afraid to attack smaller PF/C's, so he should be good for double figures again on Friday.

On the other hand, San Antonio's guard rotation...

You're creating a mountain out of a molehill. Thornton is not the object of scorn or ridicule and most Kings fans do appreciate him. That doesn't mean we're blind to the weaker portions of his game, however.

no no no, im not saying this game makes or breaks the season lol. im just saying, we have just beat 2 sub par teams, so now lets see if we can carry this and beat a real team. thats what i meant when i said we will see what the team is made of

Yep. We're in year 1 of Smart's offensive and defensive schemes on a still incredibly young roster. There will be growing pains and plenty of "WTF" moments throughout the entire year.

The difference we're seeing this year though is a concentrated effort to play good defense. It was there all the time tonight, but you still see the hustle and effort out of everyone on the floor.

would look to see Jimmer out now. he's done his part tonight, at this point of the game he is just a defensive liability

I gotta ask, why do you feel the need to bash Jimmer at every possible moment? By now, every person that frequents this site, including the lurkers, are fully aware that you aren't a fan. There's absolutely no need to repeat it ad naseum for each and every minute that he's on the floor. We all get it. You've gone far past beating a dead horse.

JJ played Prince really tough all night. His addition has made a huge difference to the teams overall defensive scheme.

actually i think your thinking of someone else. i havent talked much about Jimmer. and i am not a Jimmer hater, i just dont feel that he should be part of the rotation with the amount of good guards we have. but if Smart insists on playing him, then id love to see Jimmer come in and hit some 3s. im a big fan of good shooting, and i loved watching Jimmer at BYU. but i do not want to see him in the game down the stretch. unless he can miraculously become a good defender.

:: shrugs ::

For the same reason that some other posters do? For the same reason some "have" to bash Evans. For the same reason some "have" to kill Garcia... Maybe they think, if they don't, the world will stop turning, or something...

Fish gotta swim. Birds gotta fly. Haters gotta hate.

So you're telling me that, aside from the 3 almost consecutive posts in this thread where you are negative towards him, you haven't done the same in previous game threads from the preseason up until now? If so, then I offer my apology.
