[PHX/DET] The Finals *** Game 5 - Winner Take All ***

Is this series over yet? Geez...

Forget the league and its preferrential treatment of Phoenix...yeah yeah yeah, they got high draft picks....So what...it still aint got them a ring and I hope it stays that way. We won 1 without strings and should have had a second one. I think hoping Phx makes the playoffs so they don't get a lottery pick but they don't win a title ever is about the best of all possible worlds in terms of evening up the cosmis shenanigans.

I still want nobody to win this thing and hope to continue my not watching a single minute of this series streak alive whenever it is they play again - the stretching out of this series has been ridiculous.

Excellent game & Cappie was clutch in the end. I really like Kelly Millers game, she has been a leader & her hustle plays have kept Phoenix in this series.
The Mercury will have to find that shooting touch in game 5.
Very exciting, competetive series.
Sunday will be a war & I hope for a Mercury win.

Me too. And this series has been physically brutal, for both teams. Game #5 on Sunday is bound to be a slugfest, in more ways than one. Any team coached by Laimbeer does not go down easily, and not without a fight.

As Luv13 alluded to earlier, the fact that both teams are beating each other up, gives us Monarchs fans a reason to smile! When you think about it, I guess both of the teams deserve that! (the beating up part, not the smile!) :p

Eh, you guys are way more provincial than I am about these things; I don't particularly care for Phoenix or Detroit but, like I've said before, I consider myself a basketball junkie. There was never any question that I was going to watch this series: when it gets down to it, I like basketball way more than I dislike either of the two teams involved. But, then again, I like basketball better than everything else on television, and I never pass up the opportunity to watch basketball being played on any level.

I continue to not understand the dislike for Diana Taurasi. She's a great basketball player; in fact, she's the best player on either team (even though Cappie Pondexter is da muh-****in Truth), and probably one of the three best players in the league, if not the world. She's competitive, and she's cocky... what's not to like?

I'm also going to call shenanigans on the "theory" that the WNBA is fixing the draft/playoffs/whatever to favor Phoenix. The only bias that you could say that the league has shown at any point has been for east coast teams, so if there were any kind of conspiracy, Phoenix would probably be playing New York in the Finals... actually, if there were a "real" conspiracy, New York would be playing San Antonio in the Finals.

Bottom line for me, though, is that while I wanted to see the Monarchs competing for another ring, failing in that, basketball still beats everything that ain't basketball; if there's a ball game on tv, somewhere, I'm watching it... I don't care if it's men's, women's, AAU, college or pro.

I think the league's strings for east coast is out there too, there was MUCH speculation that the league constructed a lottery system so that Holdsclaw could be helped into NY's back pocket and into her home town. The league's biggest marketing face is Taurasi and will be until Parker arrives - and won't that be a fun lottery day coming up? And Charlotte's and Phoenix' lottery luck at the expense of San Antonio is more that a little eyebrow raising for me. But in the overall scheme of things it doesn't matter because good teams win when they're supposed to and piling lottery picks on others doesn't guarantee anything. We should have had 2 trophies on our mantel and I kinda like not having had lottery picks in a while.

I'm busying myself with other sports right now because my interests/allegiances are broader. Whatever basketball fix I need I'm getting watching other basketball I have saved up as I get geared up for the opening of the 07-08 women's college basketball season and what parts of the Olympic qualifier we'll get to see team USA play. One of the more dynamic high school classes in a while is getting ready to don the college colors so it's about to get really fun watching them play. [Since I haven't said this in a few months...Maya Moore people, seriously, watch Maya Moore.] Arguably the best draft class in WNBA history is scheduled to arrive in a little over 8 months and they'll tip their regular season in about a month and a half.

I'm with you Slim....I just enjoy watching the game...all the strategies, the drama...let me not forget our beloved officials;) I would have used a angry face but i'm trying to stay positive. As for the players I'm pulling for Tan to break out, she has to take her game inside a bit more. Especially when all her outside shots came up short. I really like Penny Taylor's game. Cappie has skills & will score. Kelly Miller has been a new leader, she gets A+++ for her hustle plays. Taurasi is a flat out baller & wants the ball, it's just her emotions that get in the way. I really would like to see Phoenix earn this win. If the players can stay out of foul trouble, & if that run & gun offense is clicking?
X-factor....Detroit is at home, with their crowd & Lambier hype, they will be tough.

Oh yeah...a bit off topic...GO RAMS...beat the niners!

NBA TV has been reporting all day that both Cheryl Ford AND Deanna Nolan are "doubtful" for Game 5... That'll be a tough row to hoe for Detroit if they can't play...

that's too bad ...

.... both Cheryl Ford AND Deanna Nolan are "doubtful" for Game 5...
Wow ! ... I expected Ford to be out, or at least slowed down, but had no idea Nolan was injured ... that's a shame. Obviously, it plays hugely to Phoenix's advantage, on paper. Of course, we'll have to see what actually happens. They might both suit up and "Willis Reed" it on to the court for inspirational value ... pre game at 1:30, tipoff at 2:00 pm, ESPN2 ... only 6 hours away !!!

Funny... Looks like Peewee Johnson is the only player in a Shock uniform that's playing like she wants it... then again, she's also basically the only player in a Shock uniform without a ring.

half way home ...

a 12 point differential, that was 18 at one time ... certainly the Mercury have played well, yet the Shock are "only" down by a dozen ... start of the 3rd ... a telling time ...

#74
19 points at the moment ...

Kelly Miller has played mentally tough, and bold, taking and making big shots, big passes, I've been impressed, she has really raised her game, to a very high level ... the entire post season ...

Cappie has already become a star in the WNBA. Soon...very soon...she will be known league wide as a SUPERSTAR!

Way to hold the lead from start to finish...that was sweet!
I just loved seeing Cappie get the MVP & Tangela getting a ring.
Now that the new champions have been crowned...lets get ready for next year! I'm done with the Shock & Mercury enjoy your accomplishments cuz we are coming after you next season...we gotta get whats ours!

A bit off topic...but memo to Rams, turnovers will not win football games...
Wilkins, try to kick the ball harder next time:cool:

What a Great Series!!!

I was very impressed with the level of play in this series and throughout the playoffs. As painful as it was to see the Monarchs get bounced so early, I squarly, without hesitation jumped on the bandwagon of the Mercury for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I just could not stomach the Detroit Shock winning back to back titles. That team has the worst sportsmanship in the league, and it starts with that bufoon of a head coach. WHAT AN EMBARASSMENT!!

Secondly, the Mercury play such a wonderful style of basketball, that is very pleasing to the eye and with solid coaching can win. And they proved it. I am a proponent of putting the ball in the basket and having a skill set that most times can trump the whole beat em up, grind em out, style. Now I know that it diametricly against my beloved Monarchs whose style is closer to Detroit than it is to Phoenix, but I am hoping that at some point the Monarchs can strike a balance and place more emphasis on offensive skills, even if that means sacrificing just a little on the defensive side.

Also, I don't know if anybody agrees, but the level of play in the league has grown by leaps and bounds even since the Monarchs won just two years ago. that was on display in this series. So as a fan of the "W" I commend both Detroit and Phoenix and all of the teams in the post season for playing above and beyond my expectations.

GO MONARCHS!!!:)
