I heard the Jeanie Buss interview. She was asked if she can see Phil coaching in NY next year and she said, "Oh, I can definitely see him coaching in NY next year." That was eventually translated into, "Phil is definitely coaching in NY next year."

He owns a retreat ranch, yup, but I was speaking about his comfort zone in the NBA, not where he hangs his hat in the off season. The man loves media and seems to need teams with deep pockets.

Who do you think played on all those Celtics teams??? Scrubs?? Hardy. Didn't they only have to win like 8 games for the championship?

The Knicks may have deep pockets, but they spend it horribly. I don't even think Phil Jackson could clean up that team.

I don't see Phil taking over the Knicks as they stand right now. Maybe if they move Allan Houston's contract and find a way to get either some production out of Tim Thomas or a productive player in return. And then then still have to pay Anfernee Hardaway and Shandon Anderson. The Knicks need to do some housecleaning if they want a good coach to take that team over long-term. Especially a "pick and choose" coach like Phil Jackson, who will have offers (and probably already does) from every team with a vacancy and some without this summer.

The league was smaller, thus each team he played was a quality opponent in the playoffs. Those Celtics teams had a lot more in common with the Pistons of today than the Lakers of the early 'aughties. There were teams with far more talent that didn't have near the level of success Auerbach enjoyed. Being as you are a Lakers fan, I'm sure you know all about that (Chamberlain, Baylor, and West on the same team? That's like having Shaq, Kobe, and McGrady with better attitudes.), and yet they didn't have the level of success the Celtics did in the day. Auerbach quite simply knew how to coach basketball. Not just relegate authority and deal with personalities; he was a great basketball coach, too. Phil Jackson is a great coach, but I just don't commensurate his success with the success of Auerbach. Hell, even Wooden had to deal with immaturity and lackadaisical attitudes when he was racking up NCAA championships by the dozen. Phil's had prima donnas, but supremely talented and dedicated prima donnas.

I would think a team like the 76ers would be a better fit. Tons of talent with Webber and AI, but personality conflicts; seems like the perfect situation for PJ.

Yep. Hoopshype.com still has his contract on the Knicks; I think they cut him and still have to eat his contract. I'm not sure though, but even if they don't they still have a $98 million payroll.
