Phil Jackson confirms: Lakers and Kings ARE rivals

I wasn't disputing that ARCO was loud.........in 2002.

I was responding to the quote : ...we ARE without a doubt the loudest arena in basketball in the NBA and quite possibly in the world!!
No offense meant in any way, hoopsie, but we're Kings fans celebrating a little bit of hope for the first time in a very long time on a Kings board. This might be one of those teams when Laker fans (even ones I really like) might be better served to just let us have our fun, you know?

:)

Now, back to Jackson's comments? I'm pretty sure he did it to poke major sticks at the Nuggets at our expense. In a way, he insulted them by actually saying the lowly Kings are more rivals to the mightly LAL than the silly Denver Nuggets. I'm not sure why he would do that, however, because George Karl and his Nuggets are one of those teams you do not want to put in the position where they feel they have something to prove as far as toughness, etc. are concerned. When you've got Ron-Ron on your team, you do not want to start waving red flags in front of opponents who might be willing and able to push his buttons.

I never went to a Kings game during the glory years so I have no idea what 130d sounds like..I'm extremely jealous.

To put things in perspective, a take-off of an airplane is around 140 decibels. ARCO went up to 130. That's pretty loud.

On a side note, I'm very happy to see that I'm still the only poster on this board who isn't allowed to post pictures in threads, let alone offensive ones.

Well, just to give you an idea...if you stand directly behind a 747 as it's taking off, that's the closest comparison I think.:D Here's to the hope of future loudness!!

The other night, I was watching the decibel level as the crowd was cheering (it was pretty loud); yet to my surprise, it was just barely over the halfway mark. We've definitely got a ways to go before we even come close to how loud it used to be. I remember back in the day (it seems so long ago) when people were bringing their ear plugs to the games!

Bring back the LOUDNESS!!!! GO KINGS!!

I know for a fact...that if the Kings continue to bring back the WINS...we will without a shadow of a doubt...BRING BACK THE LOUDNESS!! Feel the Roar!!

edit: I cant WAIT until December 26th!!

Yeah, you had to shout to be heard by the person next to you. And even then you weren't always successful. :D Man, ARCO was ROCKING back then. And if this team can keep winning some games and play with all the heart and fire it has been, it will be rocking again!

Oh, and by the way, that was pure crowd noise, as they didn't have all the music and other stuff playing nearly as much back then. Or if they did, the crowd was too damn loud to hear it. :p

Man, I miss those days...it used to be so crazy fun in there. I hope we get it back.

I get sooooo much crap for being a Kings fan living here in L.A. so YES it's still a rivalry.
trust me, they just dont understand.... its like describing the color red to a person that was born blind. being a kings fan in los angeles is something that you just cant explain to them. you know its bad when your friends say that you would be better off as a clipper fan.:D

thats true... but you live in california, they are the best team in california... you would think that people in sacramento would be okay with you being a laker fan since the lakers have been in california longer than the kings have.

but yeah... its tough. cant we all just get along?

I see what you're saying, but that is NOT how it is. Besides it being a Kings/ Lakers thing...it's a SoCal/ NoCal thing also. A double whammy!

Random people yelling, "you suck" while I'm out and about in town. I even heard it from some new co-workers today, in fact.(The walls in my office are a big clue..) Doesn't really bother me as it's all in fun, at least on my end. I've lived here too long for it to bother me anyway.

Yes, Rodney...can't we all just get along? :D

FYI...as a member a this board and numerous Laker boards...this is the only one that I'm a contributor to. That's how much I like the people here.

thats messed up... i have no beef with any laker fans, i dont see why the fans are so nutty about the kings/laker rivalry... none of us play for either team... at least we arent knicks fans.... that would suck.

What's a clippers fan? Do you mean the homeless people that go to staple center to escape the cold when the lakers aren't playing?

Knicks fans are the worst, they are like lakers fans in Los Angeles except that the knicks don't win games. They swear that every star player will want to play for them. It's weird....

Notice I said "fan"...singular. :p
Funny about the Knicks...I'm sure they still think Lebron will be a Knick next year!

The feeling is mutual, hoops.

Have I mentioned recently how very much disdain I have for the player who wears #41 for the Dallas Mavericks? Did you ever fully regain your hearing in the one ear after sitting next to me for a Mavs/Kings game?

;)
