I've actually been hoping that they'd bring Petrie on as a consultant. Low key, worked alongside a number of very different coaches, great talent evaluator, still has contacts in the league etc.
I saw on STR that a poster was referencing another poster that claimed to have seen Petrie at dinner with Karl and Vlade. If true, makes sense considering the recent reports from cowbellkingdom in regards Petrie. http://cowbellkingdom.com/sunday-musings-does-a-return-of-geoff-petrie-make-sense/
I'd love a trio of Petrie/Karl/Vlade
See what Petrie can do with an open check book
Petrie sure has an impressive resume compared to PDA.
No Maloofery, teach Vlade everything he has, remember Petrie was often quietly on Adleman's side of things when the Maloofs were giving him a hard time. We heard little public noise too, Adleman refused to even take phone calls from the Maloofs for awhile and it was kept mostly in house.
I'm fine with that setup.
Exactly. There's a lot to critique Petrie over, especially his last few years but in terms of being an unassuming team player with experience it's harder to picture a better fit. And of course he was always a shrewd talent evaluator, especially for guys with good shooting and passing skills - exactly the kind of players George Karl wants.
Bratz is probably gone too as he was a part of the Mullin/Pete crew. But who knows maybe this is just being floated out their to Woj as a sort of a power play before the draft as Pete has a history of weaseling and creating factions in the FO. All of the toxicity of last year needs to be removed and a fresh start is needed. The problem with that is Vivek has made the same mistake as before with hiring a coach before a GM. We will continue in a losing cycle until unity and experience is brought to the FO.

And the evidence for this is.....

Sources: Sacramento Kings GM Pete D'Alessandro - who lost authority to Vlade Divac - will be a significant candidate for St. John's AD job.
Whoever lobbied to keep him around is probably feeling pretty betrayed right now, what a mess.
We don't know the circumstances. But it's hardly a mess. Vlade is in charge. That hasn't changed. It's likely that they would have been happy to see him depart, but with the draft coming up and free agency on the horizon, they were OK with him hanging around for a while. I would assume that his main function now is as a numbers guy. Someone that knows the CBA. I think all parties concerned knew he would eventually move on, it was just a matter of when. There could be a little revenge factor involved here as well on Mullins side. I doubt he's happy about being forced out.
woohoo, I'm collecting the idiots who ****ed up our season over here.
I'm glad this was Woj who said this. Most dependable voice in the biz. Normally the vague "significant candidate for the job" type language would have me sniffing out baseless speculation. With Woj there's a good chance its more.
What I like about this is that if it happens we the fans may have helped slay this rodent. Well, he slayed himself. But he arrogantly dismissed the idea that merely dismissing a popular coach was going to cause any problem, did it with the help of Mullin, and then the massive fan and player revolt drove him out of power and may have chased him right out of town. I'd be satisfied with the scalps and willing to give Vivek another chance to start over if he's that reasonably responsive to the pressure. 9 months ago they're all hang 10ing together in a car somewhere.
everywhere, part of the reason why Vlade was brought in was to unify everyone.
Oh, but fan disapproval and constant efforts voicing detailed displeasure doesn't change anything in the NBA, don't you know that? What I like about this is that if it happens we the fans may have helped slay this rodent. I still can not really see PDA leaving on his own, for a lower prestige and lower paying job at a mid-level NCAA school.
If PDA was fired, then yes, I can see him taking this AD job. But, PDA called being a GM of a NBA franchise his dream job, I can't see him leaving it, unless assisted out the door (fired).
Even if PDA has to take a decreased role in the FO, he is still being paid double what he would get at Maryland.
Sorry, I can't see him leaving on his own. It won't be that easy.
I have to agree, Peja was a fantastic pick, found Martin deeper in the draft, Wallace would have been a solid pick if not for the expansion draft.
He was able to get the coach what he needed when it mattered. A beautiful offense that would impress Vivek even, balance the proper way, with the proper locker room support.
If he wants in, seems a no brainer, I'm sure Vlade could work with him too, shared some good years, I'd assume mutual respect from Karl and Geoff with good communication. Vlade's knack for communication and international experience.
Seems ideal to me.
Not quite sure it counts as revenge when you take the other turd everybody wants gone with you on the way out the door.![]()
i don't think "everywhere" counts as evidence.
I'm no Pete fan but some of the things he's accused of on here are pure fantasy.

I only say its a mess because Pete should have been gone from the start, a new(experienced) GM should have been assigned. We should have not given PDA a chance to leave us high and dry less than a month before the draft with zero GM experience in our FO. Now we are making the same mistake again by bringing in a GM with a coach already in place.
