what can we do to rent Paul George for the year. This is almost what the NBA is coming to. Cap space and #10?
 
Why? We would be giving up cap space and a valuable draft pick so we can get a guy for one year and still not make the playoffs.
 
So what are we gonna use 40 mil in cap space for? We actually have to spend It. I'm spit Balling here. But talking tank before this draft for next year?? That sucks right.

Either to buy a draft pick by taking on a bad contract or to overpay for a young talent. PG would just delay the progress of our youngsters.
 
Well I'm not seeing signs of buying a draft pick. I'm not interested unless it phx. I'd love to have 4 5
 
I would think this coming from PG would steer Lakers back to Ball, Celtics get Jackson, Just hope Phoenix goes Tatum or Issac and we get Fox

He's probably trying to do some damage control and doesn't want to be booed every home game. Which brings me to think how people feel about him now. It's not exactly like KD, but he's leaving a potential conference contender and should know that letting this info out early helps him get traded to a contender since most teams won't mortgage their future for a 1 year rental. Is it really worse to leave through free agency than the guise of doing it through trade?

Indiana is far from a conference contender, they were the 7th seed last season.
 
Someone here will explain in better terms that I can, but: in the event that a team does not meet the salary floor, the team must pay the remaining balance to its players. In other words, if we do not meet the salary floor, the team still has to pay that money out, except that the money gets distributed among existing players.

There's no reason to waste a pick on a 1 year rental of Paul George. And frankly, Indiana would hang up the phone laughing if we only offered #10. There's lots of other free agents we can blow money on if needed.
 
It would be a rental to a team that thinks he puts them over the hump or that would get so close they'd believe they could talk him into staying. No thanks.

Portland has a lot of mid-firsts and are in a major cap bind. I hope we are working them aggressively as they just completely screwed up their offseason last year after overachieving the year prior with tons of cap space, they actually thought they could improve their station and only managed to get worse in the process. There are probably a few other teams in a similar bind.
 
The only team that may trade for Paul George now, besides the Lakers, would be Cleveland.

I could a see a Paul George for Kevin Love trade possibly, because Cleveland would have at least a fighting chance of keeping George, if Cleveland can win the title next year.

They may need a third or fourth team to help facilitate a trade. That is where a team like the Kings can take a contract for a future draft pick.

PG13/Barnes
Milsap/Skal

That's a top 4 team in the west
 
The more pertinent question might be, what does the Pacers big board look like in the case they pick 2 from the Lakers? If they traded, you'd naturally assume they'd want Jackson or Tatum. Rumors abound. I'm still kind of wondering if Lonzo Ball slips to the Kings, or even more difficult Kings will need to decide between Fox/Ball. Glad I"m not the General Manager....."choose wisely".

Lakers won't trade 2 for a guy they can get for free. Maybe the Houston pick
