i havent seen him play but everyone was comparing him to bowen and thats all he does is hit that stupid corner three...
Sure about that?
Ewing, Jr. is James Posey without the jumpshot, without the basketball IQ, without the fundamentals, and without the defensive stopper type credentials.
It looks to me that Ewing Jr. is a homeless man's Gerald Wallace, only older and thus with that much less potential. Hard worker clearly, but something tells me had Davon Jefferson even showed up in the predraft camps he would've been that pick, because he fits that prototype...
Hello everybody. I'm a Georgetown student and a massive fan of both the college and NBA games. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents on Patrick, as someone who has seen or listened on radio to every single one of his games over the last 2 years.
I think this is a great pick for the Kings. Is he going to be a star, somebody who's going to go out there and score 20 points a night for you? Of course not. Those guys aren't hanging around at #43. What he is going to be is a great role player and a great bench player and a great teammate.
Pat easily has the talent to start for Georgetown, or for any team in college basketball. In fact, he started the first 10 games this last season. It was determined by our coach that his talents were best utilized as a sparkplug off of the bench, a decision that most Georgetown fans agree with. He was always one of the best 5 guys on the team however.
Pat's a defensive stopper, its undoubtedly his best quality as a player. You can put him on a 2, a 3 or a 4 and expect him to take care of business. Last year, Joe Alexander, #8 overall pick, had been coming off of 3 consecutive 30+ point games or something very similar when Georgetown got them in the Big East Tournament. We all knew it was going to be Pat's assignment to shut him down. He did, and was the last player to do so in Alexander's career. Hoyas won easily, and Pat was the game's MVP.
Pat's been around very high level basketball his whole life, obviously given his father. He's an extremely heady player and plays very much like the stereotypical coach's son. He's a tremendous passer with really nice vision and played a little bit of point forward for the Hoyas, an important thing to be able to do as part of the Princeton offense.
Pat plays at 100 mph at all times, exactly what you want from a sparkplug off the bench in the NBA. He fills the stat sheet with every conceivable category. His block against West Virginia the FIRST time we played them saved the game as time expired and was arguably the best play of our season.
Finally, Patrick was a captain this year for the Hoyas. This is special given that it was only his 2nd year with the team. He's a great guy to have in the locker room, and he's a winner. In the mid 2nd round, I can't imagine anyone wanting much more than Patrick Ewing Jr.
He is an energy guy off the bench that gives you TREMENDOUS defensive effort and all around hustle and focuses all of his attention on defense ANY offense is just a plus ala. Doug Christie. When we had Bibby 18ppg, Peja 17ppg, Webber 20ppg, Divac 14ppg, Jackson 12ppg, and Jim Jackson and/or Hedo getting 10ppg Nobody batted an eye at Doug getting 6ppg because he was the best defender on the team and was a great teamate, leader, and lockerroom guy. These are the same attributes as described when fomer coaches speak of Ewing Jr. So debating about his offense is always going to lean in the direction of a player that will never be in the NBA. If you think GP or anybody that scouted him for that matter even paid attention to his offense you are fooling yourself.
I personally have not extensively watched him play. All I have to go on is people's opinions. Like this one:
OK, well that's from a G'town fan.. Why not listen to people that are non biased who have watched him play too? i have seen him at least 20-25 times in the last couple years, and he was never the player I thought would even come close to being drafted. Like the guy said above he was the fifth best player on a team that had only one player with first round talent. That should tell you something. There were a couple seniors that didn't get drafted who were better than Ewing, and a Junior that didn't come out who was better than Ewing.
Oh, forgot to mention that he is foul prone.
Ehh I think DaJuan Summers will be a 1st rounder next year.
Wallace didn't but the talent level is totally different than Ewing Jr.
That's like me saying Elton Brand hasn't developed a 3pt shot yet so Ewing Jr. wont. It just doesn't make sense to compare a learned skill from player to player. Ewing Jr. might develop a 3pt shot, who knows... But right now his shot mechanics are pretty bad from outside, and he will need to be taught how to shoot it consistently correctly..
As it stands right now Ewing is not a 3pt threat at all, and he will need to learn to be or else he probably wont make it in the league. It's hard to make it on defense alone unless you are one of the best defensively which Ewing Jr. is not.
yep he's here to guard people. Well Kmart's shot mechanics don't look the best but they somehow work for him, especially his 3pt shots. So maybe something can be done for PE jr too. Hopefully.
I've seen Patrick Ewing Jr. play probably 20 times. I wish him all the luck in the world. I, for one will greatly surprised if he makes our team. I was talking on the phone with my son in Sacramento when he was picked, and the words out of my mouth were, " You've got to be kidding me ". I was shocked. I honestly didn't think he would be drafted.
If Petrie see's talent there, and is able to develop it, then he truely is a genius. Personaly, I don't think they cared who they drafted at that position. They probably threw a dart at their board and it hit Ewing's name.
I would also like to point out that Ewing is a senior with four years of college and Wallace was a lot younger. I believe 19 yrs old. I didn't go back and look it up, but by the time Wallace reached Ewing's age his jump shot had improved signicantly.
My point is that Ewing's shot didn't improve in four years of college. I think he's destined to be a Michael Smith type of player.
So was Kareem's...not sure if they had any kids though. You around here anywhere Hoopsie, I know you'd know?rasheeds wife is like 4'11....

Which Mike Smith?? Certainly you aren't comparing him with 'The Animal'. lol
Speaking of Michael Smith I was able to attend that great game against the Kings and the Sonics when Brian Grant and Smith were either rookies or 2nd year players. What a game. The Kings came from down a ton in the 3rd Q, an won it. It was a playoff like atmosphere.
