Patrick Ewing, Head Coach?

Ewing has made it known that he would like to try being a head coach after his job as an assistant at Orlando ends after this season. How do you think he would be as a coach, especially for the Kings? He would certainly command respect from the players, maybe he would be able to teach Hawes and JT a few things also.

He will probably suck. Most great players do when they try to coach, and Ewing's personality was never that of a leader. That said, at least he has been doing it right, paying his dues as an assistant coach. Its still just name recognition hype though. There are a number of much better looking assistant coaching candidates out there that just were a fraction of the player he was (or did not play at all).

Ditto that!!

No...

In fact, HELL NO!!!

We had a big man player turned coach ... and I still have nightmares about that experience.

Not that a guard turned coach worked all that well for us, either.

Maybe Patrick Ewing can make that transition better than Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan could, but I'd be happy to let someone else be the guinea pig for his first year or two as a head coach.

A big NO to Patrick Ewing as a probable weak head coach and overrated NBA player.

Patrick Ewing was the most overrated superstar in the history of the NBA IMO. Yes, he was a star player, but not the superstar the New York media constantly hyped. He was outplayed every time he faced Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson in nearly every regular season match up and especially in the playoffs.
