Overall Impressions from Summer League

On a side note I recently was talking with some recent grads from Kennedy h.s basketball team and asked them if they knew who Yogi Stewart is and none of them had a clue. C'mon kids know your programs history at least he did after all lead them to back to back section titles sheesh.

Ironically, the first time I saw him play at Providence, he reminded me of Kobe. Just in the way he moved etc. I suspect that Kobe might have been his idol. While he did a decent job of imitating Kobe offensively, he seemed to forget about the other end of the court. I'll give him credit for trying to change his approach to the game, but god love him, sometimes he just can't help himself. Sometimes its just him, the ball, and the basket. What teammates? Oh yeah, I forgot... I don't want to be too hard on him. He's trying... He wouldn't be a bad player to have on the bench, depending on how much money he wants.

You'd have better luck with some Cal grads. Well, maybe not....
 
I wasn't that impressed with Marshon after games 3 and 4. I thought he broke the flow of the offense when he came in and took some pretty bad shots right in the teeth of the defense. As I said before, I missed the first two games. He was a lot more effective in the game against Washington though -- playing under control and showing that he can get all the way to the basket. If that's the player we get this season, not just a guy that takes pull up mid-range Js off the dribble and ignores his teammates, I think he could be a great bench player for us or possibly a starter if Ben and Nik go nuclear.
 
Marshon Brooks was born to be a 6th man it's as simple as that, he's that guy when the main two guys are on the bench you just give the ball to and have a shooter or two space the floor for him while he goes berserk on the oppositions bench players. He's also the only guy aside from Cuz/Rudy when the shot clock is low can make a really tough shot.
 
I think we pick up Brooks and Moreland. Brooks and either Ben/Nik can come off the bench together and be the offense off the bench. Not sure Nik is ready for starter minutes right off the bat, he looks flat out tired in summer league.

I agree he just needs to get his conditioning up and he should be good.

His offensive game looks all around great just gotta keep putting in work on the defensive end till season comes

I'm hoping he's trade bait, and Ben or Nik fills in at backup SF. For those who have been able to watch the SL games, does it look like Ben and Nik could play significant stretches next to each other on the wing?
 
Williams fits the mold we are trying to get rid of, the ball stopper. We are almost there but not quite yet. The front office took a gamble with him, I don't think that it will pay off unless something all of a sudden clicks in his head.
 
So if you have one team of Moreland, James, Brooks, Cunningham and Oriakhi, and you have another team of D-Will, McCallum, McLemore, Stauskas, and Acy, who wins if they played against each other?

I'd have a hard time not knowing who Yogi was. I was a year behind him at both Kennedy and Cal. Played basketball with him at Kennedy but my lasting memory was of him in drama class. We did "A Christmas Carol" one year and he was the ghost of Christmas future. No speaking lines but a 6'11" figure under a black cloak makes quite an impression.
 
I have a hard time believing that Derrick Williams is in the Kings long term plans. PDA took a low risk gamble on him and it didn't really pay off. His only real value now is as an ending contract or maybe to 1 or 2 teams who still think he might be able to fulfill his potential.

All part of getting used to the grind of the NBA. I seriously doubt he's ever played that many games in one week before, much less a back to back to back. It was obvious that his legs were gone about half way through the 2nd quarter. All his shots were short, a sure sign of tired legs. Not a big deal really, but has to get into NBA shape, and he will. He's a dedicated young man. Plus, I doubt he's ever put out that much effort on the defensive side of the ball. Except of losing Porter one time, he did a very good job of guarding Porter and contesting every shot.

I could not care less about numbers no one that I watched impacted the game more than Moreland, when he was on there were no easy buckets and a lot of rushed shots, without Moreland we would not have won a game.

Thats silly. The numbers back up what you saw... So why don't you care about the numbers? They tell us Moreland was pretty easily the best rebounder and rim protector in Vegas.

In general the average basketball fan would look at the 3.5ppg and 44% and think he's crap, but I know you Jamal your above average so you know what's up :)

I'm just saying from watching Moreland he was the most impactful player in the SL
