Jason Jones tweeting out that Cousins/Thompson/Gay/McLemore/Thomas are the starters.

There you go. The best option I suppose. So much for those reporters writing that we would be using Gay as a stretch 4.

That's very interesting. So Williams comes off the bench. IMO, that is because Williams hasn't been all that defensively.

Wow that both surprises me and makes me absolutely ecstatic.

It's surprising to me because I truly felt that FO wouldn't be able to resist throwing both Williams & Gay into the starting line for all the excitement and athleticism that it would provide.
It makes me ecstatic because that's absolutely the starting line-up that you want, with JT in there to be the other big for all of the reasons which have been discussed in this thread. So I'm pleased that they're going about this the right way and putting together a starting line-up that is configured to win in the long-term. Now all we need is to find a better big to replace JT so that JT can properly fulfill his role as a great 3rd big.

It's also good because now you have legit scoring threat off the bench that can really strengthen that second unit. IMO Jimmer (or Ray) will really benefit from having someone that runs the floor. I think a big issue with the second unit has beeen the lack of any kind of transition game.

Continuing hope for Malone ignoring all the numbuts smallball jockers...and Jerry. Ignoring Jerry is a good way to win more bball games.

Of course give our short experience with this front office so far, continuing to play JT has a 50/50 chance of just being a way to showcase him. I don't know what to say about Ben. he's awful enough he's hurting our ability to win games, but I don't know what the option is. And please don't say Jimmer.

Ben is a very young rookie, not only by age but from a maturity standpoint. He still has those giant eyes out there and I think he is sorta caught in a whirlwind. He has had a couple games where he played a bit more controlled and he looked better. You can tell his shot is right on the mark most of the time, but it's a bit strong. That comes from not want to short arm a shot. If it was hitting of the edges of the basket I'd be slightly more concerned. He is going to be one of those rookies that it takes a full NBA season for him to get comfortable and confidence. Luckily we had a team makeup right now that will allow that.

I think we all understood that Gay and his seventeen-point-eight million dollars wasn't coming off the bench, even though I think a case could be made that he should have. My biggest concern with Williams coming off the bench is that he hasn't really shown that he can create his own shot, and there's no one coming off the bench at the moment who can get him the ball, so his productivity moving forward is a question mark.

You know, on the surface I don't hate the idea of starting Jimmer over McLemore as dumb as that actually is.

McLemore has been bad about .. 70% of the time. 80%? And Thornton hasn't been any better. For shooters, neither guy has been able to shoot.

Jimmer, on the other hand, is shooting .500 from 3 (5/10, small sample) but we know he can shoot. No questions there. And defensively he's going to get lit up, which is exactly whats been happening to Ben all year. Thornton has been surprisingly ok defensively this season for what its worth. Jimmer also has the best handle out of the 3.

For the record, I'd likely stick with Ben myself for all of the obvious reasons. He's the future 2, after all. The biggest issue is that a case can be made. I wish it couldn't.

Who should and who will come off the bench are two different things. JT provides elements next to cousins dwill/gay don't and we obviously need all the scoring off the bench we could get. I think gay/dwill will start because I believe management sees them as possible franchise pieces who they don't want to discourage. I expect an interesting staggered rotation

It never ceases to amaze how quick Kings fans latch onto players. Williams has not proven himself to be an NBA starter in his career, nor really in his short time here. Gay is a proven player. Pretty simple decision really (although I was almost convinced they wouldn't keep JT starting). Williams can get the same minutes off the bench folks. If he's that reliant on others to get shots for him, then maybe he's just not that good. Minnesota didn't think much of him. Throw out the 31 point game, this is a guy who is averaging under ten for us. He's just really mediocre for a 3rd year former #2 pick. He really hasn't earned anything at this point.

It's a virtual guarantee Gay will produce much better than williams.

That said, Williams has made more shot (18) in the last two games that he did combined in his first 5 games with us. I see the confidence angle, but nah. You go with the guy you're paying 17 million and don't think too much about it.

Let me hear your arguments against playing "big ball". If they start IT, DW, RG and the big guys I think it solves all our problems.

Just heard on 1140 that the starters are IT-Ben-Gay-JT-DMC with Williams coming off the bench. Not sure if this is old news or not, but the first I've heard of it.

Edit: Apparently just didnt read this thread past a couple of posts. Looks like Jason Jones already got it. My bad.

I guess with Williams coming off the bench it's not so bad as long as he has one of the "IT Gay Cousins" combo with him to help create plays for him. But the bench unit if its Jimmer/Thornton/Williams/Outlaw without Cousins is going to be a disaster no one can really create other than Williams in the open floor the half court sets are going to be a nightmare imo.

We just got to rotate "IT Gay Cousins" combo so ones on the floor all the time which should not be an issue imo even with foul trouble.

Williams coming off the bench might have more to do with how awful the bench has been rather than what they think the best starting five may be.

Plus, showcasing JT.

The bench is a disaster no matter how you mix it up.

Thank goodness for some sanity. JT pretty much had to be the starter, being our only actual nba PF. Anything else would have been gimmicky and really would have surprised me honestly.

I think a lot of us threw up in our mouths when we heard the rudy as stretch 4 rumor.

And no, it's not a showcase. This lineup gives us the best chance to win with the current roster. Every gm in the league knows what JT can do. He's actually a nice fit in this lineup. Stays out of the way, rebounds a little, plays d, and has a post up game. Not ideal, but there isn't anyone else.

If dwill does hit the bench hopefully it won't mess with the budding progression of his game. Also I don't recall that we were seeing a lot of iso offense from him, hopefully he serves the bench role well
