Orlando looking for PG and C depth...

This is one of those "finally win a trade" sort of moments, if possible. I believe they have some youth at SF that we might be able to get. I wonder what the cost would be?

wait so what do you want to get back? why would you just dump IT, who is probably the biggest bargain contract in the league this year. I find it funny that a lot of people wanted to start a war for not matching Tyreke at $11 million, and at the same time will dump IT for nothing.

Undersized scoring guards are not rare and rarely a commodity.

With their love for Tobias, one does have to wonder if Harkless would be available for the right combo.

Because Reke >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pizza Guy.

IT is amongst the quickest players in the league, is a very good shooter, has good court vision, is a true leader, plays his heart out every night. You don't just give away a player like that. I for one want to see what he can do in a structured system, with a coach that puts an emphasis on defense.

I'm much more interested in the team looking for a two guard (Thornton/Jimmer). It would be an unwise move to trade IT when all you know you have at pg is Vasquez.

I never said he didn't have or wasn't those things. And no one said that we should just "give him away."

My response to you was regarding Reke. In general, players like IT come around way more than players like Reke. Thus, undersized scoring guards are not rare and rarely a commodity.

If you love IT that much, it's all good bro.

Have you been hanging around Grant and Jerry this summer?

No but i watch a lot of NBA basketball, and i can say that while Tyreke is good, he is not nearly as good as a lot of people on this board claim him to be, and while IT isn't great, he isn't some puny chucker scrub that people here also say he is. I don't play favorites, i just analyze what I see on the court.

I'm not saying we should just dump IT for nothing. We have some redundancies that happen to fit holes they're looking to fill... like Spike said we may be able to take advantage of the situation. As far as who... It would be great if we could pry Tobias Harris out of their hands, but I don't think they're going to want to trade their starting SF who had a pretty good year last year for a couple backups. But who knows? Maybe it's a discussion they'd be willing to have. Or with them drafting Oladipo maybe that makes Affalo available. And maybe we could find a 3rd team who would like to get involved. Then again, maybe Harkless would/should be a player we'd target. I don't know much about him. I did look at his stat line from last season and saw the 50% or so free throw shooting. Not a good thing from a SF. But take him and try to swing Big Baby to a 3rd team. Just throwing out ideas.

The goal would ultimately be to pick up another SF. The depth chart at that position is still looking pretty sad.

I would love to have Harkless on this team. The kid is a promising player. He's a very well rounded player who can do a little bit of everything. I wouldn't mind having this 20 year old on my team to see how he develops (not to mention having Chris Jent work on his jumpshot with him).

Oh, but when we sign Monta he'll be able to pick up the extra PG minutes!! :p

But yeah, I see your point. Maybe we wait a couple weeks and see what McCallum has to offer during summer league. On the other hand, I'd hate for the front office to decide he's not worth $4-5 million/yr (or whatever he thinks he's worth) next year and let him walk for nothing. I think that unless we plan on keeping him long term, now may be the time to send him out.

IT for Harkless straight up works in the ESPN trade checker, but they don't have Mbah a Moute on the roster yet. So I'm not sure if we still have the room to take on the extra million or so.

Also, IT/Hayes/Jimmer works for Harkless/Big Baby. Then the tricky part becomes finding a 3rd team who would be interested in Davis. Because I don't think we need a 17th PF on the roster.

Harris would indeed be a good pickup, but Harkless, holes and all, would be a good roster balancer, at the least.

A couple of weeks in summer league probably won't tell you whether McCollum is a legit NBA pg. It will probably tell you if he's not though.

a point pertaining Harris: when he blew up in Orlando, he was, in fact playing power forward alongside Harkless and Vucevic, not small forward. so while he does have the skillset to play that position, he might turn out to be best suited for the four. also, I really, really, really doubt that Orlando has any intention of breaking up that Harkless/Harris/Vucevic frontcourt any time soon. they look kinda beastly. if they're really looking to trade, then it's much more likely that they'll try to move Nicholson.

sidenote: they really are the only team that won the Dwight Howard trade, aren't they? insane, considering I thought they got robbed blind.

That's not it at all. iT would be used as a sweetner so to speak to package with a less likeable contract like MT to pick up a stud.

If you want to move a scoring guard, i'd be looking to package Thornton to Memphis. They're screaming for perimeter threats.

Who is going to be our backup PG then? I really hope you guys don't think it's going to be McCallum. There's probably a 10% chances he'll be a productive player.

IT is a great backup PG. He can come in and give you immediate scoring off the bench at a pretty good efficiency rate. I see no problem with him in a 6th or 7th man role. I just don't want him starting.

Memphis needs outside shooting and are thin at PF and point guard after losing Dorrell Arthur to free agency and not resigning Jerryd Bayless. I'd be trying to dump Jimmer on them along with one of our undersized 4s. Maybe try to pry away Ed Davis and a sign and trade on Austin Daye.

Doesn't matter. You can't go over the cap to sign free agents, but provided the salaries are close enough, you can go over the cap absorbing more salary in a trade. I would expect they want more than IT and filler for Harkless, but I guess it depends how badly they want to fill a need. Doesn't hurt to at least make the offer.
