All-Star
I've been thinking about Karl's rotations lately and what I would do different with the personnel we have. Below is a walk through of the lineups/rotations I would use for each game.
1st/3rd Quarter
1st/3rd Quarter Starters (o min mark)
PG - Rondo
SG - McLemore
SF - Gay
PF - Cauley-Stein
C - Cousins
Sub (6 min mark): Collison for McLemore; Casspi for Gay; Koufos for Cauley-Stein
PG - Rondo
SG - Collison
SF - Casspi
PF - Cousins
C - Koufos
Sub (10 min mark): Belinelli for Rondo; Gay for Cousins
PG - Collison
SG - Belinelli
SF - Casspi
PF - Gay
C - Koufos
2nd/4th Quarter
2nd/4th Quarter Starters (0 min mark)
PG - Collison
SG - Belinelli
SF - Casspi
PF - Gay
C - Koufos
Sub (3 min mark): McLemore for Casspi
PG - Collison
SG - McLemore
SF - Belinelli
PF - Gay
C - Koufos
Sub (4 min mark): Cauley-Stein for Gay; Cousins for Koufos
PG - Collison
SG - McLemore
SF - Belinelli
PF - Cauley-Stein
C - Cousins
Sub (5 min mark): Rondo for Collison
PG - Rondo
SG - McLemore
SF - Belinelli
PF - Cauley-Stein
C - Cousins
Sub (7 min mark): Casspi for McLemore; Gay for Belinelli
PG - Rondo
SG - Casspi
SF - Gay
PF - Cauley-Stein
C - Cousins
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The final minute distribution would look like this:
PG - Rondo (34 min)/Collison (14 min)
SG - McLemore (20 min)/Belinelli (10 min)/Casspi (10 min)/Collison (8 min)
SF - Gay (22 min)/Casspi (18 min)/Belinelli (8 min)
PF - Cauley-Stein (28 min)/Gay (12 min)/Cousins (8 min)
C - Cousins (28 min)/Koufos (20 min)
Cousins - 36 min
Rondo - 34 min
Gay - 34 min
Casspi - 28 min
Cauley-Stein - 28 min
Collison - 22 min
McLemore - 20 min
Koufos - 20 min
Belinelli - 18 min
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few reasons why I like this rotation:
1. We're never "small" in two positions at the same time. When Collison is playing SG or when Belinelli is playing SF, we aren't lacking in size anywhere else.
2. Cousins or Gay is on the floor at all times giving us a legitimate scoring threat throughout the entire game.
3. Subbing Rondo & Cousins out at the 10 min mark in the 1st & 3rd, gives us the ability to bring them back sooner in the 2nd & 4th to help us slow down any runs/momentum the opposing team has against our bench squad.
4. Subbing Cousins out at the 10 min mark in the 1st can help with foul trouble so he doesn't pick up a foul towards the end of the quarter.
5. There is always at least 3 players who can knock down a three
6. Cauley-Stein sees more minutes to help improve our god awful defense
7. The lineup we close out the 2nd & 4th quarters with is stronger defensively (Cauley-Stein & Cousins), is excellent at ending possesions (all 5 players are solid rebounders), can leak out once they get the rebound (Rondo, Casspi, Gay, & Cauley-Stein), has three scoring threats to make it tougher on defenses (Cousins, Gay, Casspi), makes it easier on switches (Casspi, Gay, Cauley-Stein), & your best 3pt shooter is on the floor (Casspi).
