One Thing The Team Really Misses...

I've been watching this season like everyone else and agree that our D leaves a lot to be desired especially in the rebounding and transition dept. But one thing has really stood out to me, and that's our unwillingness as a team to take charges. I remember Pollard and Vlade back over the years willing to MAN UP and make the dude ram past them. That was really our interior D back then.

Last year and this year, we let the opponent constantly run around or past us without making them earn it or help D making them earn a bucket. I did see young Flash take a few in the preseason but this is where our bigs could really help. Pollard was completely unscared to put his arms up and plant his feet and Vlade was the King of standing his ground or flopping (whichever you prefer). They got it done and gave us an interior presense, something we've really been missing. Not to mention Vlade averaged I think 9 RBPG most of his time here except for last season when our D became porous and Pollard was gone.

Anyway, if we aren't going to give hard fouls consistently, it would be nice to see either primary defender or help defender set his feet a bit more often, take the charge or blocking foul, and show that you can't just bring it in the paint.

I know, FAT CHANCE, but Man it would really benefit us in the playoffs. I also know Pollard and Vlade probably got some of their back problems by taking so much punishment over the years.

Any thoughts? :)

Part of the problem is that C-Webb and Miller aren't quick enough to get in position for a charge. And C-Webb didn't want to commit any hard fouls because he didn't want to foul out of the game!

Part of the problem is that when they were in position they didn't want to take the charge. More so Webber than Miller. We'll see how Skinner fares in the upcoming games. You gotta be willing to protect the paint, especially if you aren't a strong rebounding team. :)

It would help. I'd rather have shotblockers than charge takers, but if you can't get up its probably the next best thing you can do (actually I'd also rather have a thug lay somebody out than a guy passively take a charge, but that's just a personality thing :) ).

I don't know about taking a charge, but Brad can sure set a mean pick.

;)

Agreed. I also agree with VF21 about Brad. It helped in the past. It can help now. It's all about sacrifice and effort, which I think may earn our team a bit more respect when it comes to lay-up drills. Even though Pollard got some bunk calls by fronting Shaq, planting and putting his arms straight up, I respected his willingness to lay it out and not give up easy baskets. Just my 2 cents.

I think if Bobby was 6 or 7 inches taller, he'd be an enforcer down low.

The problem is this... I have noticed that we have no perimeter defenders that man up... They all let them go by, and have the bigs rotate... The Kings rely TOO much on team defense and not enough on keeping their man in front of them...

I'd like to see Bibby get his hands out of his pockets and UP in the air in the face of the shooter BEFORE the guy takes the shot.....................ugh........

Maybe Bibby thinks its illegal to put a hand in their face when they shoot.
