Oklahoma City Thunder?

I never thought of it as a joke, but a spite to those who would do the city harm...

Would you name a NY team the "terrorists"? Come on. Some things are just in bad taste. You can put a spin on it if you like, but I'm willing to bet the people in Oklahoma City wouldn't see it that way. Do you remember the controversy over the memorial to be built on the site of the Murrah building?

Anyway, I think "Thunder" is okay but they're gonna be nothing more than "showers" when they hit Arco.

Was just listening to an interview on ESPN with someone affiliated with the OKC organization. The colors are sky blue with red/gold trim/highlights. Some of the other names that were considered but didn't make it were Thunderbirds, Tornadoes, Outlaws, and Barons (Oil?).

Well, maybe the Thunder get to go with Black and some other color for trim. Black, as in dark, gloomy, threatening thunder clouds. I think the only other teams with Black are Spurs (white/silver trim) and Heat (red/orange trim).

BTW, I originally heard Thunderbirds and Thundercats were also in the running along with lots of other names.

Now that would be cool. Thundercats HO! would be the chant heard in the arena.

Barons, Thunder among 6 nicknames league seeks for OKC

The NBA has filed for trademark rights to six nicknames for the league's new Oklahoma City franchise: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind.

Looks like the name decision still hasn't been made. Barons and Thunder are the only two I like of those. Energy is a definite

Marshal is usually spelled with one l. It's not clear why the league used a variant spelling.

'Marshalls' is acceptable, but doesn't flow real well with Oklahoma City in front of it. 'Thunder' is decent, but uninspiring. 'Barons' is still the clear winner here.

I'm gonna go with Barons. Even though the regal name is just a cheap knockoff of our team's royalty themed name.
