Oh My God - Gavin Maloof on Tyreke Evans

I'm not really happy with this answer. They give no definitive answer on how Tyreke will be used. GP states he'll log minutes and is a multi-position player. I have been pretty high on this kid until GP talking about him. Now I'm pretty annoyed with the pick. We don't need tweeners anymore.

I thought he said "I think he's gonna play at the point."

It doesnt really matter what they wanted.
The only reason they wanted Rubio is because of the name recognition. I guarantee you the crowd would go crazy if they selected Stephen Curry just because of the name recognition.

Are you kidding me? Evans is a just as popularized as Steph Curry.

The crowd went crazy for Rubio because of who this kid is, and who he can be.

When ESPN asked Rubio, "Who do you compare your style of play to?" Rubio said simply, "Well, I'm Ricky Rubio."

I was in the audience and everyone was too negative about this pick. I think I was the only one who jumped up or down or anything. Mark my words Evans WILL be the best PG in this draft. TYREKE EVANS YEAH!!!!!!

The difference is that Gavin doesnt know what hes talking about.

When is he going to tell me that Brockman will now be the next Mailman?

Yeah, like people here know more about this guy than an NBA owner with a full staff of scouts and an experienced GM.

Gavin also said that Evans dominated the other pgs. OF COURSE HE WOULD. He has 40 lbs and 5" on the other workout pgs.

You missed the part about Evans being the quickest up and down the court and being able to stay in front of all the other guards.

In 1 on 1 open court, the smaller quicker players have the advantage, so they should have been dominating Evans, not the other way around. And Evans didn't post them up to take advantage of his size. He broke them down off the driblle.

It's like saying Lebron is 30 lbs heavier and stronger than other small forwards, therefore his dominance doesn't count.

So 1 statement makes him god? I guess if Kenny Thomas states "well I'm Kenny Thomas" we should sign him to a 6 year 70 million dollar extension? Of course he isnt going to compare himself to Pistol Pete, he was a great player and it'd put too much pressure on himself. That's terrible logic.

TYREKE EVANS YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

-How many of us booed the Peja pick? (my hand is up)
-Were we at any of the workouts? No.
-Are we listening to the opinions of those who never played professional basketball? Yes. (Chad Ford, realgm.com, Andy Katz, etc.)

I will let this all play out and put my faith in those who actually saw all the workouts, watched all the film and stayed up late deliberating on who to choose.

lebron is a 3... evans isnt a 1. So its REALLy like saying lebron is 60 lbs heavier than a 2, and his dominance doesnt really count.

Great so well have Evans driving around the pgs so he can try to finish at the rim. Now where do the rest of the team fit in? Oh yeah, they dont. DX lists Evan's weaknesses as "turnover prone, poor asst/turnover ratio, poor ft shooting, poor 3 pt shooting, bad decisionmaking."

Does that sound like the makings of a successful pg?

So whats your point. These were the other top point guards in the draft, minus Rubio. He'll have 40 pounds and 5" on most of the point guards in the NBA. Are you saying that we shouldn't consider him because he dominated other players we might be considering?

We drafted the BPA, simply as that. Evans may not be a PG, but he does have more star potential than Rubio. All along I've been saying we need a future star out of this draft, regardless of position; and we got one.

We now have a three-guard rotation of Beno, Evans, and Martin; with Evans switching between the 1 and 2. It's not a bad game plan. You cut down Beno's mins and give Evans some burn at the PG next to Martin. Maybe they jell, maybe they don't. If they do then bravo, best backcourt in the NBA in about 2-3 yrs. If not, deal with it then. But the point is, we have a potential star here, deal with it.

My entire argument is predicated on him NOT being a pg. If you think he is a pg, then of course it's a good thing, but I dont see him as a pg. Hence my differentiation on Lebron tackling 2s instead of 3s.

Im saying I dont consider him a pg, so playing him against pgs is a little unfair to judge his value.

Wow! Who is he really trying to convince?

Believe it or not, Gavin is just that enthusiastic a lot of the time. I was even at a game a couple of years back when he wore a Kenny Thomas jersey (it was right after one of KT's few good performances).

Gavin may be over the top to a lot of folks, but at least he cares. I equate him at times to Mateen Cleaves.

:)

Those are perceived weaknesses... so Rubio doesn't have perceived weaknesses? How about " physically weak and unathletic, poor shooter" and etc. Does that sound like the makings of a successful PG?

And what did they list as his strengths? By the way, have you looked at Rubio's assist to turnover ratio? Its not very good either. How good is Rubios 3pt shooting? If your trying to say Evans has some flaws, I agree, but so does Rubio. Neither one is perfect. But both are young and both have a chance to be very good. Petrie had a chance to pick the one guy that God and Chad Ford agreed was the next best player in the draft after Griffin. He could have made that pick and everyone would have been happy. But he didn't. He passed on the easy pick that everyone, or most, wanted him to make. There would have been no criticism or unrest in the kingdom.

But he didn't do that. Me thinks he must be very convinced that Evans is someone very special. I'm more inclined to go along with Petrie on this one. He could have taken the easy way out, and he didn't. To me that shows conviction.

Agreed. He's just that way. They are like overexcited fans most of the time.

Ok, so a 3 guard rotation. So where does that leave Sergio? Not much time for Garcia at the 2 as well and we now have 4 SF in Garcia, Noc, Greene, Casspi. How do you divide up those minutes?

Oh, guess this means McCants is out too. Come to think of it, Evans sounds like another McCants.

Obviously on 1-on-1 ability Tyreke (who is really more of a SG) is going to dominate, that's not very indicative of who will be the better PG in the NBA.
