Bruce Bowen made some interesting comments. He said the Spurs were supposed to come out and win strong. They aren't taking this as anything more than the home team winning game 1, which they're supposed to do. And he said Nazr made a BIG mistake in that last three.

Yes, horrible game but... it is just one game.

If I remember correctly, the game clock was running down, so a shot did not need to be taken. The winning team usually just holds the ball waiting for the clock to run out...and, game over. No use in rubbing your opponents nose in it when you have that kind of lead. It is considered extremely unclassy to put up a shot at that point. Pop was very upset that he did so.

Yup jsut one game and I'll do you one better. It might actually be better that the boys were whipped silly on National TV rather than loosing a close one. MUCH greater motivation for game 2.

I just watched the replay of that play on my TiVo...it was their second to last possession, so a shot did need to be taken. BUT...he took it very early in the shot clock...it was an unnecessary play, especially from a big man. I used to coach high school ball and I would have been ticked if one of my players took a shot like that in that situation. But hey, without that shot we lose by 31...does it really matter at that point?

Back to the topic:
Bibby and Artest came to play, but the rest, come on, its playoff basketball. One thing I noticed was Bibby tried to go over alot of those screens, and not alot of showing was involved. Parker pretty much beat us today. next game we should make him beat us again, but with his jumpshot, which is very inconsistent. Bibby should give him space and go under screens, and the bigs should show help. Our offense started unkinking itself in the third, so I am not worried about that. If we shut off parker, then the spurs shooters don't get as many open looks.

today's game sucked..its only one game... I stick to my original comments is its a miracle that this team made it to the playoffs...and just that after the way we started out this season is a good accomplishment...but it would still be nice to win a few......GO KINGS!!!!

Fortunately I was at work and higher powers took away our internet. I would have broken something if I had watched that game. From what the score showed me was we were a blind mouse and they were a lion that hasn't eaten in a month. To play at this level, you have to have pride. I would hope the guys come out like a ferrari in a bicycle race and take it to them.

The Kings have defied the odds all season. If anything, the fact we dumped the first game could be further proof we're going to continue to buck the trends...

79 is not 100.

Yeah right. If the Kings had won game 1, do you think anyone would be saying the series is over for the Spurs? Hell no. The team that gets 4 games first wins 100% of series and that's the number I'm pinning my hopes on.

Its just not very realistic to beat the Spurs 4 of 5. It was a major longshot at 4 of 7. Just got longer still at 4 of 6. By the time you reach 4 of 5, the fat lady is into her second chorus. There's nothing shaky, inexperienced, Achilles heeled about them. They are the champs. And set a franchise record for wins. This is a major major team.

But what I disagree with is the assertion that 79% of first game winners go on the win the series is a meaningful stat. How many of those first game winners also go on to win the second game? How many of the 21% that lost the series LOST the second game. I bet the correlation depends on also winning the second game.

The point is, this really really was only ONE game. ONE game does not decide a series. TWO games can go a lot longer towards deciding a series, but in a 7 game series, the first game really isn't THAT big of a deal, especially if it's on the road. Let's just get the split.

Remember the last time the Kings got blown-out, the next game they went to San Antonio and handed it to the Spurs!!! There is still hope. The bottom line is, as an underdog all you want is to go and take home court from the higher seed, you do that by getting one of the first two games on the road. All game one means is that the Kings are not going to sweep the Spurs, and even the most optimistic Kings fans were not predicting that!

I'm just glad they were able to turn this season around with some respectability. A couple of wins as an 8th seed, or a ***cough*** series win would be pretty impressive, but not likely.

While I think the issue in this case is far more than merely statistical, according to the site "whowins.com", when a home team goes up 2-0 in a series in the NBA, their total record in playoff series is 155-7 (.957). The good news would be that they only win Game 3 39% of the time. The bad news that in 96% of the cases, it does not matter.

If we win game two, we put ourselves in position to hopefully go up 3-1. We know how good we are at home, Arco will explode no doubt and our guys will feed off the crowd. Two straight wins in Arco is very possible, especially if you count out the debacle Saturday and count the 97-87 win at SA as our way to win at home and away. Then when we go back to SA, we need to put the pressure on. The Spurs by then would be very desperate(if we won at Arco) and would play their arses off, then Game 6(if the Spurs happen to win) we're back at home and that would give us a good advantage. I still believe in this team and if we play the rest of the series like we did when we won at SA weeks ago, we will pull this off. But we need to come out HARD.

And I'd go one step further. It's not about fighting harder for the boards; it's about even fighting at all for rebounds. We looked pathetic...

And your team looked like a reigning champion that isn't about to give one away to a #8 seed. If we want it, we're going to have to really show we can win it.

Well, judging from our two buttkicked losses against the Pistons in this yr reg season games, i KNOW the importance of good rebounding, especially against team that has a good talent offensively -Pistons are quite a good offensive machine this yr you know. In my observation, if you can be competitive in the rebounding battle, atleast you'll give a chance to keep yourself in the game -while it's true that with that kinda offensive outing like last nite Spurs, it's just a matter of what kinda loss you would get.

As someone else said, if we win game 2 we even out this series and it gives us a chance at going 3-1 (although it's a long shot). But on the other hand if we lose game 2 our guys will probably be emotionally drained and it would be really tough to win two in a row, even if it's at ARCO.

Then, my notion makes sense afterall.

Whether my comment is appropiate or not to deserve an eyerolling, i'm sure the betting houses around the world are good judges for that notion . And, should the Spurs lead 2-0, but the Kings put a very hard resistance in the 2nd game -say, getting it into an overtime or two, then my smart money would go for Sacto, atleast to get 1 win at home (with the assumption they'll carry their momentum forward).

Arg, I don't want to get into the nuances of how statistics can be deceiving, but my point is...the team that wins the first game of the series wins 79% of all series. But after a series goes to 1-1, that team that won the first game of the series probably wins much less than 79% of all series - in other words, the percentages move around based on what happens next. So you can look at it and say "at this moment, the kings have a 21% chance of winning this series." OR, you can say "In my opinion, the Kings have a 45% chance of winning game 2 and if they win game 2, their odds of winning the series go up to about 35% but if they lose game 2 their odds go down to 4%. Now I'm going to multiply the odds of these occurences to find the expected value..." anyways my POINT is lies, damn lies, then statistics. Don't buy into it 99% of all statistics are 100% meaningless.

the spurs have lost game 1 at home three times in that past three playoffs and won the series (once they lost game 2 at home and won). the only series they've lost in that time was after winning games 1 and 2 at home.
