Official "It's Only One Game" Thread

I'm every bit as distraught as everyone else over this embarassing performance. In all honesty, I stopped watching at halftime - and I almost never do that. BUT, in all our frustration, let's not forget that the Kings are only down by 1-0 in this best of 7 series - this game may have been a blowout but the seires is not over. Sure, many of us underestimated the Spurs - it looks like even the Kings forgot that they were playing the defending champs. But we've been here before - remember when we were blown out by Utah in game 1 in 1999? Well there are a lot of similarities this year - a group of guys playing together in the playoffs for the first time, and several players who have never even been to the postseason.

So I'm ready to let this game go. I'm not going to even talk about it, not going to post any further about it, not going to be bothered with it. I'm just looking forward to game 2 when I think we'll see the real Kings - and yes, I am predicting that they will even the series at 1-1.

I'm with you on this one. They came out very flat today. I also have a feeling they can even this one up 1-1.

Bruce Bowen made some interesting comments. He said the Spurs were supposed to come out and win strong. They aren't taking this as anything more than the home team winning game 1, which they're supposed to do. And he said Nazr made a BIG mistake in that last three.

Yes, horrible game but... it is just one game.

Ya know ... as strange as this sounds, my stress level aint's as bad on a blow-out in comparison to a close game being lost.

As a matter of fact - NO STRESS

King's will regroup and do much better in game #2

Better to win ???

That's to be seen and WITNESSED as those Spurs t-shirts said.

I just never really understand why people get so bent out of(or in) shape for that matter over winning or losing the first game of the series. It's the first team to win 4 and even though we got our hats handed to us there is another game on Tuesday. With that said, if we again play flat then it's pretty much bye bye.

I agree.

I still think we get the split.

1 game. SA played almost perfect basketball in the 1st half. I think we'll see a different Kings team Tuesday night.

(thank god barry bonds--not that i'm rooting for him-- hit his 1st HR tonight. that means espnews and sportscenter can have something else (besides the beating SA gave us) to talk about. they can also talk about LBJ all they want. i don't care.)

i just can't wait for tuesday.

Lets just have fun. The Kings future looks bright to me. The Spurs took it to us, right down the middle where we are WEAK. Lets just hope the guys can overcome it. They can, I believe that. And during the summer hopefully we get some interior D!

All I ask is that the guys try! Like I've said the winning and losing will take care of itself. Today the guys didn't even try. Pathetic really, but I expect a great effort the next game!

GO KINGS!

Because the team that wins the 1st game of the series wins the whole series in 79% of the cases.

haha so true...

I mean come on guyz... We honestly expects us to beat one of the better teams in NBA history... I mean they are a dynasty. Sure I dont discount our chances, they are beat up a bit... but still. I hoped for 2-3 victories just for good measure... I think we can win game 2, and then it is a new series, but I dont think its worth our stress levels (and mine gets so bad, i cry scream and throw things) to worry about winning this series... lets be kings fans and be optimistic, but no hard feelings when its over...

Look I would rather our staff learns what needs to be FIXED about this team to make it the best it can be moving forward, and our players LEARN about what they need to do as a team. I'll take the loss if it means those things get accomplished. Upsetting the Spurs means less to me than the team, staff, AND fans discovering this teams identity.

The Kings have defied the odds all season. If anything, the fact we dumped the first game could be further proof we're going to continue to buck the trends...

79 is not 100.

Now Game #2 becomes all important. Lose that one as well, and then you are talking about having to beat the San Antonio Spurs 4 of 5 in the playoffs. As in not happening. Mission is still the same -- gotta steal one in S.A. to even make this a series rather than an inevitability.

It's one Game in a Best of Seven Series, They played Great Basketball the spurs, They shot well over 60% from the Field in both half's,They'll Beat anyone in the league shooting the Basketball the way they shot it Today, There wasn't anything the kings could do in this game, But hope that the shots would start to Brick, Finley hit Trey's Van exel, Brent Barry,Robert horry, Their Bench along with Tony Parker's penetration and the Defensive Rebound killed the kings. The kings were out Rebounded Because of the constant help Defense with Tony Parker's penetration to the Basket,Once the Big guy's went to Stop the drives and clog the lanes, This left the Defensive Glass open for offensive /rebounding by the spurs.

If Tony's going to walk in there like that he must be put on his wallet so he will think about it the Next time he drives through that lane,I think Tony can be intimidated, I don't think he is Tough in the matter to take punishment each time coming in that lane. Tony's penetration Won the game early with the offensive Rebounds from helping and the kick out for the Three balls which gave them confidence and momentum. Timmy is hurt and you can see this by his lack of Range and mobility with his foot work,Which usually gives him the advantage in the post. I also saw how easy it was to push him out of position and this too is related to his foot problems. Ron has Vibration over Ginobli,?And Bowen is Really no factor other than his Shooting from the Three, Ron seems to have Vibration over Both Ginobli and Bowen.

The problem is with containing parker and making him work fro those Drives, Mike must be physical and use them some of those 6 fouls another concern is the spurs Bench,So the kings Subs much match their intensity.

On offense it was no ball movement, The kings were easy to guard,Too much 1 on 4,1 ON 3 and 1 on 5,The packed in the defense and Dared them to make perimeter shot,They must move the basketball around and this way Bonzi can Squeeze in some Perimeter shots, Brad and so on, The artest post every time down killed the offensive flow,The ball stayed on one side and no one else but Ron and mike got any rhythm going.

Yes it is only one game but.........

You have to assume that a multiple title team like the Spurs are not going to lose a Game 7 at home. It just isn't very likely.

Which means the Kings need 4 out of the next 5, which is very hard

Well, that statistic DIDN'T work in our favor in 2003 when we blew out Dallas in game 1 of the semi's, so I figure "the odds" owes us one.;)

Really, to have a chance we have to take one of the two first games and all of our home games. If we lose on Tuesday then what's left is just playoff practice for next year.

We won't be as lame for game 2, the question is, will not-as-lame be good enough?

lakers were in that situation in 2004, they won the next four games. kings are not out of it by far. btw, pistons outscored the spurs in the finals. losses by 1 or by 34 mean the same thing for determining who wins the series.

i still think the spurs win in six.

Better they lose by blowout, the close losses take a toll on my heart lol, kings are in trouble, parker can go by bibby and bibby is still standing in the same place, he's killing us.

im at a loss of words still. the effort from the guys was.. disheartning at best. im hoping for a more competitive game 2 but suddenly my expectations for the series is not so optimistic. still, go sac!
