One of the things that confuses me most is Ranadive coming out and saying that the team would win more games under Corbin and make the playoffs. Really odd. Not, "we're moving in a different direction that we think is best long term" but "we're going to be better immediately after this move". Very strange.
Is that because Ranadive made the call to fire Malone and thought he was drastically underperforming and actually holding the team back as their head coach? Or is it because D'Alessandro and/or Mullin convinced him that the team would be better THIS season if Malone were fired?
Either way, really odd and shows a lack of understanding of NBA basketball.
IMO, not very strange. One of the things that confuses me most is Ranadive coming out and saying that the team would win more games under Corbin and make the playoffs. Really odd. That wasn't optimism, that was a borderline guarantee that many here will not let him forget.IMO, not very strange.
If you are an owner of a business selling something, would you say that your product is bad and bound to fail?
Actually, that is the kind of optimistic owner I want for my team.![]()

That's a horrible analogy. It's bad enough that it's actually backwards. Ranadive HAD a product that was selling (a Kings team off to a reasonably promising start) and came out publicly to say that it was okay but that they were pulling it off the shelves and customers would love the new version even more.
While not his fault, Tyrone Corbin is Vivek's New Coke.
I've thought about that as a possibility and it still makes no sense to me. Even if the Kings barely missed the playoffs or just barely snuck in as an 8th seed under Malone the FO could replace him in the offseason with Mullin and make the argument that they needed an offensive mind to take the Kings to the next level. I'd still be angry, but not as angry as firing a coach the team respected midseason with no apparent successor in mind. At least then it looks like a thought out plan instead of a bizarre knee jerk reaction.
Nearly a month later and I'm still baffled as to the actual reason Malone was fired.
why doesn't he just come out and say hey the coach didn't like my ideas.. cherry picking 4 on 5, run/gun offense, tanking to save pick & didn't listen to the jazz music i gave him so i gave him the axe. i wouldn't be pissed if he just told the truth. the fans would know there is some semblance of direction. he does love the passion of the fans right?
Claiming that we would have more wins and get to the playoffs could potentially paint PDA into a corner. "You promised me success, and didn't deliver." That would be rather savvy, and forward-thinking.
It was selling, but maybe he saw and believed the boom as something not sustainable in the long run?Ranadive HAD a product that was selling (a Kings team off to a reasonably promising start) and came out publicly to say that it was okay but that they were pulling it off the shelves and customers would love the new version even more.

The question I'll likely never get an answer to is who exactly is pulling the strings. Who made the call to fire Malone. The public narrative is that PDA and Mullin convinced Vivek to do it. But is that reality? I don't know. Everyone seemed initially pleased with themselves about the firing and it wasn't until the backlash started that we heard about D'Alessandro flying to Vegas and Ranadive claiming he had a hands off approach.
I don't know. But either way it's bad for D'Alessandro if things don't turn around. If it was his idea then he takes the blame. If it was Vivek's then you have to recognize that you work for an owner who apparently has no patience and no qualms about replacing the people he hired in order to quickly "pivot".
I was very mad when he traded Robin Lopez for peanuts. Now I'm pissed........
At least with Vikek, he saved our team, so he has a five year grace period with me. I'm not going to be "that fan" that loved him last year, and this year, hates him. I am forever grateful for him. He saved Sacramento basketball. Now with Jed York, he is single handily destroying my 49ers piece by piece. At least I still have my Giants and Sharks.
The fallacy of hope thread came immediately after the Malone firing and was about the Malone firing extinguishing hope.It was selling, but maybe he saw and believed the boom as something not sustainable in the long run?
I mean, you just have to read the thread "The Fallacy of Hope" where it was pointed out that the Kings roster was not that bad to lose badly (and that was with or without Cousins). That thread was born out of frustration during the last weeks of Malone era where clearly the Kings were on a downward trajectory and it even started with Cousins still playing.
Maybe Vivek/FO decided enough is enough and we have to change course for the betterment of the team in the future?
I don't see any reason why he would lie. Vivek, (of all people/fans) stands to lose the most money for paying two coaches for the next 2 years if their move proves to be a failure in the long term. The move clearly was well-thought and intended to improve the Kings (and not intended to make the fans angry). That is whether we like/believe it or not. That wasn't optimism, that was a borderline guarantee that many here will not let him forget.
He made it clear Corbin would win more games than Malone and make the playoffs. So, let's see it.
I see a team that got dramatically worse, not better. If you enjoy being lied to, then this ownership group is for you.
Don't expect anyone else to be with you.
KJ and Burkle saved the team, along with the fans.I was very mad when he traded Robin Lopez for peanuts. Now I'm pissed........

You are mistaken. The fallacy of hope thread came immediately after the Malone firing and was about the Malone firing extinguishing hope.
PDA lies. Politics and law are his former sectors and lying is a part of the game. It's the cloth he's cut from.I don't see any reason why he would lie. Why does it matter? I'd like to see it too to be honest. You are mistaken.
That thread was before the firing of Malone.
Can we ask the moderators to make that thread appear again so we can see who/which fans were frustrated about losing just before Malone got fired?
There a lot of reasons ($$$$) for him to sell false hope. It's not complicated.I don't see any reason why he would lie.
