OFFICIAL Draft Day Discussion Thread

We didn't use Kevin Martin last year. Why in the blue hell did we draft him again. Its obvious the Maloofs and Petrie want to be a lottery team next season.

Hmmmm lets see we need defense and rebounding so lets draft a guy that plays no defense and can't rebound. Good jooooooob Petrie

It does make Kevin superfluous. Which is why I didn't like the pick either. I like Garcia, he's a quality player. I like him a lot. But it means either Kevin or Evans is gone and that makes me very sad. Evans was my favorite King last year.
So we can't keep more than 4 guards? ::counts on one hand the number of guards on the roster::

Trade rumor: Denver to trade Jarrett Jack to Portland for the #27 and #35 picks.

The Latin Assasin is what we needed. He is a team player, and thats what the Kings are about, I've watched this kid for many years and he has it, he has every skill, Hes a Great passer 4.5 a game last year, He shoots like Reggie with nba range and turn around fades, and hes is a great defender 2 steals a game and 1.5 blocks last year, I'm so happy with this pick! Great job Geoff, this kid can ball!

With the pacers selecting a SF and us getting a guy they liked. Maybe this is building up for the Artest trade. :) :) :0

So probably not picking up a SG through free agency now. I say re-sign Evans and start him, with Kevin and Francisco as backup guards. I guess that pretty much maintains the status quo. Kevin as backup and Francisco Garcia sitting on the bench like every other rookie that comes here. I was kinda hoping that would change this year. Then again, I'm glad we didn't draft a project. And putting team need aside for a moment, Garcia is probably a better player overall than Taft or Simien.

albeitrue - Martin has been touted all along as the SG of the future. The management has been really high on him. So by drafting ANOTHER SG, it sure looks like they don't have that much faith in Martin.

Very puzzling, to say the least. We needed a BIG much more than we needed another guard.

I wish the Kings had more draft picks. This draft is pretty deep, and there's still some quality bigs left on the board!!! ughghg..

while we have kevin martin and mo evans, garcia was DEFF an awesome choice. who knows if martin will actually pan out as much as we would like, and garcia can help at both SG and SF. he has good D, awesome shooting, and can pass well. "DONT DRAFT FOR NEED, ESP LATE IN THE DRAFT" is the name of the game. taht is what petrie did, and he knows what hes talking about

Have you even seen him play, obviously not with those statements, he is a great defender, and averaged over 4 rebs a game, so I really think you don't know what your talking about!

Maybe Kevin isnt what this organization thought he would be? Nice kid, but seems like a good bench guy.

If we would have got a big when would he play??? Odds are he wouldnt have played much.

If Petrie got a big in the draft I would have lost hope in any significant trades for big bodies. You can't draft a big guy at #23 and expect him to replace Chris Webber.

I guess we know how badly Taft did in workouts I guess!

Just because we didn't get a big in the draft dosen't meen were not going to solve our BIG problem in the offseason, its not that puzzling.

There are many more possibilities for trades for bigs, and FA's and garbage thru the "cut" floating around for cheap.

Kevin Martin is still on the roster and we are SHORT on guards. I wouldn't expect a draftee to get a start over a 2nd year rookie, much less a MO EVANS player, anyway.

Now I'm hoping we swing a trade for a second round pick and get a forward.

Remember what Petrie said about the draft?

"Petrie has said the Kings need to upgrade their defense, athleticism and backcourt playmaking ability. However, he knows that's difficult with a low first-round choice."

Well they got the backcourt playmaking part anyway.

You're probably right.

Yeah, that's a hot topic on our board now. Most hope that won't happen, include me in that group btw ;), and want Granger to be the first backup at SF and SG and when we go small he could play PF. He's extremely versatile.

Regards,

Mourning

Maybe Petrie will grab Nene. Garcia was definitely the best avialable sg

Garcia was insurance incase we don't resign MO. I expect Barnes to come back and if mo is signed martin or Garia in a deal for a big.

If Mo is a restricted free agent, I guess the chances of him coming back next year depend on how much other teams want to offer for him.

Whose seen him play?

I live in Louisville so Ive seen him play for years. He was their go-to guy and I dont know what this **** about subpar defense is, he plays good D. He can shoot, and hes a leader.

Still, we needed a big man.

You may not be puzzled. I am because I still have no idea what direction Petrie and the Maloofs plan in taking this team.

Just my three cents.

I know i sound mean about selecting Garcia but it is true that he is better than Martin. So yes it is a very good pick. Its just the fact that we are all so unhappy with the PF that we had tunnel vision on that position. We was willing to accept Mo or Martin at the 2. Please Basketball gods bring the kings a PF.

He could also see time as a back up pg to Bibby, kinda like how Doug played last year. Especially if we trade Bobby or let him walk after next year.
