So there has been a few offers here so here's what I would like to see:
1. Drafting Hield/Murray/Luwawu:
I'm assuming Dunn is not available at 8 and I pick these guys just to make it look easy since I will treat them all as SG's- 28 million under the cap.
2. Trading for Shumpert:
A trade with the Cavs sending KK and Ben for Iman Shumpert- he had a terrible shooting season and was never known as a great shooter but he is a great defender and we are lacking in that department, regarding chemistry he spent last summer abroad with Casspi and Cousins.
31 million under the cap.
3. Trading for Holiday:
A trade with the Pelicans sending Gay for Jrue Holiday and Omer Asik- this is the controversial part of my offer I'm not sure they would do that but the fact they hold the 6th pick will allow them to draft Dunn or Murray as their future PG (another version of it is sending them DC with Gay) and it will give them more cap space and free them from the terrible Asik contract (and Tyreke have been successful there without Holiday so they will probably part from one of them).
23.5 million under the cap.
4. Trade Belinelli:
Salary dump Belinelli with cash considerations and our 2nd round pick (59th) and/or rights to euro guys.
30 million under the cap.
5. Sign Marvin Williams:
Sign Marvin Williams for around 16 million a year- he is not a big name but can hold his own defensively and shoot 40% from 3, he was also one of the most important parts of the Hornets this year and will provide the same spacing many (including me) have wanted Ryan Anderson to provide while not sucking on defense.
14 million under the cap.
6. Sign Jared Dudley:
Sign Dudley for 8 million a year deal- he is a great shooter, seems like a good locker room guy, decent defensively and very affective, I think it would be important to have a guy like that who could potentially start if Casspi can't handle the starting gig.
6 million under the cap.
7. Resign Curry and Acy:
Resign both guys for for 3 million each- if you can't get Acy back on that salary (very likely) sign a SF/PF hybrid from the D-League/europe and use the money to help sign the other guys.
Final Roster:
PG- Holiday/DC/Curry
SG- Shumpert/Hield/Anderson
SF- Casspi/Dudley/Acy
PF- Marvin Williams/WCS/Acy
C- Cousins/Asik/WCS
It's not a shiny roster and Asik's contract is a *****- but I think it's a well balanced roster with enough shooting around Cousins and good defensive players.
Holiday-Shumpert-Casspi/Dudley-Williams-Cousins is a starting five with lots of shooting (everyone but Shumpert is a good shooter, and Shump can get to a point where you can't leave him open), and your defensive unit will be straight up deadly: Holiday-Hield-Shumpert-WCS-DMC and will still have more shooting than we have now.
It will also allow Joerger to go really big or play small-ball effectively, and because Holiday is a big PG, DC could probably share the floor with him without killing us on defense.
Thoughts?
