Off-Season Plan (Holiday-Williams)

So there has been a few offers here so here's what I would like to see:

1. Drafting Hield/Murray/Luwawu:
I'm assuming Dunn is not available at 8 and I pick these guys just to make it look easy since I will treat them all as SG's- 28 million under the cap.

2. Trading for Shumpert:
A trade with the Cavs sending KK and Ben for Iman Shumpert- he had a terrible shooting season and was never known as a great shooter but he is a great defender and we are lacking in that department, regarding chemistry he spent last summer abroad with Casspi and Cousins.
31 million under the cap.

3. Trading for Holiday:
A trade with the Pelicans sending Gay for Jrue Holiday and Omer Asik- this is the controversial part of my offer I'm not sure they would do that but the fact they hold the 6th pick will allow them to draft Dunn or Murray as their future PG (another version of it is sending them DC with Gay) and it will give them more cap space and free them from the terrible Asik contract (and Tyreke have been successful there without Holiday so they will probably part from one of them).
23.5 million under the cap.

4. Trade Belinelli:
Salary dump Belinelli with cash considerations and our 2nd round pick (59th) and/or rights to euro guys.
30 million under the cap.

5. Sign Marvin Williams:
Sign Marvin Williams for around 16 million a year- he is not a big name but can hold his own defensively and shoot 40% from 3, he was also one of the most important parts of the Hornets this year and will provide the same spacing many (including me) have wanted Ryan Anderson to provide while not sucking on defense.
14 million under the cap.

6. Sign Jared Dudley:
Sign Dudley for 8 million a year deal- he is a great shooter, seems like a good locker room guy, decent defensively and very affective, I think it would be important to have a guy like that who could potentially start if Casspi can't handle the starting gig.
6 million under the cap.

7. Resign Curry and Acy:
Resign both guys for for 3 million each- if you can't get Acy back on that salary (very likely) sign a SF/PF hybrid from the D-League/europe and use the money to help sign the other guys.

Final Roster:
PG- Holiday/DC/Curry
SG- Shumpert/Hield/Anderson
SF- Casspi/Dudley/Acy
PF- Marvin Williams/WCS/Acy
C- Cousins/Asik/WCS

It's not a shiny roster and Asik's contract is a *****- but I think it's a well balanced roster with enough shooting around Cousins and good defensive players.

Holiday-Shumpert-Casspi/Dudley-Williams-Cousins is a starting five with lots of shooting (everyone but Shumpert is a good shooter, and Shump can get to a point where you can't leave him open), and your defensive unit will be straight up deadly: Holiday-Hield-Shumpert-WCS-DMC and will still have more shooting than we have now.

It will also allow Joerger to go really big or play small-ball effectively, and because Holiday is a big PG, DC could probably share the floor with him without killing us on defense.

Thoughts?

I'm sorry, but WTF is that? Marvin Williams as a starting PF, making 16 million a year? I don't want Asik anywhere near this team. Holiday is as injury prone as they come and unless Shumperts Kid N Play haircut has a jump shot somewhere inside of it that is just a bad trade.

I like Williams and Shumpert, but wouldn't take the risk of the Holiday trade.
Don't know if 16 millions is too much for Marvin Williams, but he was very decent on the defensive end during the playoffs and I would take him over the much slower Ryan Anderson.

I think it's a realistic and I consider it optimistic summer.

I'm not sure why it's weird for you that Marvin Williams is a starting PF since he started 81 games this year for a 48 win team... I think 16 million might be a slight overpay in this market (actually I don't)- but we need to attract him somehow.
He is not a known name and that's exactly the kind of guys I think we should be chasing, how many PF you know that can shot 40% beyond the arc and defend? he has a good 17 PER and ranks 6th among PF in RPM.
I think he can be perfect next to Cousins and share the floor with WCS.
I don't want Asik either, taking him was a way to make the trade logical for New-Orleans.

Holiday is injury prone but also a great ****ing PG and this whole forum is talking about defense and that what Shumpert can provide.

Look at that team- don't you think that Joerger could coach Holiday-Shumpert-Casspi/Dudley-Williams-Cousins into a top 7 defense?
Don't you think that Cousins surrounded by shooters can give us a much better offense than what we have now?

The roster proposed also have some real depth since most players can play more than one position.
And here I was thinking people would say it's unrealistic :)

I'm comfortable taking the risk on Holiday if I got DC to back him if he's injured and Curry as a 3rd PG.
When is healthy he is a great PG, he can defend, shoot and run the game well.
Like I said to you in a different post the FA market for PG is really bad after Conley (who I assume in this isn't coming, if he is I would scrap the whole thing) and all that left is Teague and Holiday.

I targeted Holiday because (outside of giving them our first rounder) I don't see what we can offer Atlanta that they'll want, while NO Asik situation can make our willingness to take him an asset.

The point about Marvin Williams is exactly my point- people are cool with giving Anderson a 20 million contract but think 16 million for Williams is crazy though he is a 2 way player that can provide us most of what we wanted from Anderson on offense.

I like the marvin williams signing in place of Anderson a lot. Question, can he play SF? If we draft a Luwawu, we could potentially go after both Anderson and Williams and Trade Gay for a starting SG. In poor defensive matchups at SF Casspi or Luwawu will get majority of minutes at spot. Otherwise we roll out a Cuz Anderson Williams front. Rotate WCS in early for Anderson so when Cuz comes out Anderson back in for scoring punch.
