Odom and Peja hypothetical lunacy...

the bulls wouldn't even remotely consider getting rid of Deng Chandler AND Gordon. That's just silly. Probably a real stretch to say they'd even consider getting rid of two of those guys. Only reason its remotely a possibility is because Chandler is going to be looking for a mega-extension this summer, and with curry on board too the Bulls may be financially gunshy.

He also said that the Lakers have had conversations with Sac about Peja and Jackson, but Petrie said any deal for Peja would have to include Odom,

Well, DUH. I mean who the hell else on the Lakers would the Kings even remotely entertain a trade of Peja for? I would have thought that if any such conversations were going on that Odom would basically have been the universally acknowledged starting point for BOTH teams. Butler's ok, but unless it was Butler/Mihm + change or some such I can't conceive how the Lakers could even make a realistic offer for Peja without Odom being the main guy. He's the one we need.

Now Peja AND Bobby for Odom is just too much. Peja and Odom are roughly equivalent talents. Throwing in an extra 6th man of the year just for the heck of it throws the balance out of whack, send TWO of our core guys to our most hated rivals, and potentially benefits the Lakers far more than the Kings if Bobby comes back strong -- two starters for them to one for us.

I find all of this most interesting because in the numerous "we have to make a trade" threads around this site in the last month I have almost brought up Odom on a number of occassions, but have decided against it solely because he happens to be a Laker. Solves a lot of problems, and my real motivation is that it also gives us perhaps the single most qualified biggish guy in the whole league to run our offense through when Webber starts to decline. He's a natural SF, but give him a few post moves and he's got the most Webberish package of overall skills of any 6'10" player outside of KG.

And now combining the rumors, this is how its going to go down ;) :

Sacramento trades:
SF Peja Stojakovic(19.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 38.3 minutes)
C Greg Ostertag(1.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 0.5 apg in 9.8 minutes)
PG Bobby Jackson(11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg in 21.7 minutes)
Sacramento receives:
SF Matt Harpring(13.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.8 apg in 33.0 minutes)
PF Lamar Odom(15.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 3.5 apg in 36.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -4.4 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and +0.6 apg.

Utah trades:
SF Matt Harpring(13.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.8 apg in 33.0 minutes)
PF Carlos Boozer(17.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.8 apg in 34.8 minutes)
Utah receives:
C Greg Ostertag(1.6 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 0.5 apg in 9.8 minutes)
PG Bobby Jackson(11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg in 21.7 minutes)
C Vlade Divac(0.8 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.5 apg in 4.6 minutes)
SF Caron Butler(14.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.8 apg in 35.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -2.0 ppg, -2.5 rpg, and +0.5 apg.

L.A. Lakers trades:
PF Lamar Odom(15.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 3.5 apg in 36.4 minutes)
C Vlade Divac(0.8 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.5 apg in 4.6 minutes)
SF Caron Butler(14.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.8 apg in 35.6 minutes)
L.A. Lakers receives:
SF Peja Stojakovic(19.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 38.3 minutes)
PF Carlos Boozer(17.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.8 apg in 34.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +6.4 ppg, -3.6 rpg, and -1.1 apg.

+ Lakers throw Utah a pick to encourage them. Voila!
TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Sacramento and L.A. Lakers being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Sacramento and L.A. Lakers had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

You have been assigned Trade ID number 2281030

Lol Brick..that would be beautiful! It would actually make LA strong again, which could be scary.

I find it funny though that in this situation Peja would be traded to Vlade's team, only after Vlade had left. :p

Just putting Haley's direct claims on record... His views do not necessarily reflect those of Gargamel.

He's a 32 year old 6MOY who'll miss 120 games in the last 3 years. I don't recall too many trades where one team targets a player who is out for the rest of the season unless that player is going to be bought out or is insignificant (a throw in).

I doubt Petrie would care about that if he felt that a Laker trade was can't-miss, especially now that Shaq works in Florida.

So what's your cap situation? How many more years on Webb's contract?

Coincidentally, LA will have two 2006 first rounders (Miami's lotto protected 1st rounder and their own).

Unless the Lakers are in the lottery this year, in which case they keep this year's pick, and next year's goes to Boston.

We are way over the cao and Webber is going nowhere for a long long time _(07-08) if I am not wrong
