OC Register: Kings end bid to move to Anaheim

There is more than one way of seeing things except for you. It's tiring.
What a lot of people keep doing is blaming the Maloofs regarding how they made bad business decisions and loss their money and therefore wanting to move. They all fail to think, what would they do themselves if they were in financial trouble. Its fair to say that most people will do whatever it takes to survive. Its human nature.

OH please don't tell me this forum is going back to believing the Maloof BS after all this recent drama revealed the difference between their presented persona and their actual situation. Lay off Rookie. The next question isn't just can an arena deal get done, but will the Maloofs get in the way like they have before? Can the Maloofs be removed from that problem like they were just removed from their own moving decision?

They are doing this because it's "the right thing to do" or because "ticket holders were reaching out" to them? Please. Maloofs, to think that we would believe such a thing is just one more indication of how stupid you are...
Exactly. I knew they'd release such a statement though. They would never tell the truth, which is that they're pissed off and are only staying because they were forced to.
though i wouldn't use absolutes like "never tell the truth" he is right about them lying when releasing such a statement about staying cuz "its the right thing to do or doing it for the ticketholders." its a PR move. if you guys really believe their reason why they stayed after weeks of reading all the facts on this forum, i feel sorry for you. they stayed because they had to. because of the debt, cuz the nba wanted them to stay, and because of kj/burkle.

That's not a very good way to rationalize it. You could just as easily let someone off the hook for stealing from you because you figure you'd steal too if you were desperate enough.

Human nature doesn't make it justified

Fighting over the Maloofs? It's not a battle that has a winner. We know they were told to stay by the NBA. But the path to keeping this team here is to make the team a success on the court and fill a brand new arena with fans. The Maloofs can come along for the ride or bail out and sell. WE own the future of the Sacramento Kings and not them. It's no longer about them and calling them out is a waste of energy.

Today is a day of celebration for many reasons. Negativeism is any person's right but can't we have one day to be happy?

All Glen, the other fellow and I'm saying is that there are different ways to look at one thing. Its just our opinion and Maloof haters don't have to agree. It goes both ways.

The Maloofs did what they did trying to save their own business. They did not steal from anyone, they own majority shares of the Kings and have every right to make decisions for their team.

No one said they believe in the reasons stated by the Maloofs for leaving. Given these circumstances, its the logical thing to say. A lot of people who are out in the public makes statements that they don't always mean just to be politically correct for that given situation. Even KJ does that. Whether you like the person saying it most likely determines you calling them out or not.

Saying the Maloofs did what they did trying to save their own business is redundant. It's not that those of us who are harsh critics of the Maloofs don't know that, we just don't like how they handled it and we think the reason their business needed saving in the first place has a lot to do with them.

That's an irrelevant point since they can't change the past. Two (or more) wrong decisions don't make a right one.

Rookie-- with all due respect... get over it. Really.

Wish them success. Everything will go much better.
Get over what? You want me to change how I feel? That's not gonna happen. Their statement was horse **** and I called it how I saw it. Not sure why so many folks are having a problem with that.

Please. It's not a matter of either "believing their bs" or hating every cell in their body.

A feature of adulthood is being able to assimiltate potentially conflicting information without coming to hero/villain conclusions. It has been a complex situation, but getting hung up on doling out blame from past actions serves no purpose. Accept their words at face value and it will be possible to turn them back into friends. Unless, of course, you have a compelling inner need to maintain some external entity as an ultimate enemy, and you've just locked on to the Maloofs.

At a certain point that Maloof hating becomes irrational. That's when you know it's not about the Maloofs, but about the hater.

Horse **** or not, it is a useful thing for them to say. Do you agree that is was useful to the stated goals of getting an arena and keeping the kings long term?

What would you have preferred them to say?

Yes it does if both the "wrongs" are murderers and they are in a dark alley looking for someone to murder and they come upon each other and both get headshots off at the same time.. It's happened to me before in counter strike so who says it can't happen IRL? lol.

Hmm, I don't know how useful it was but I'd agree that it or something like it was necessary. What would I have preferred? Something with a bit less sentimentality. It just isn't the right time for them to say "it feels good to be home" or "we love our fans" or anything like that. Just stick to business and say that you've decided to stay in Sacramento and that you're looking forward to working with Kevin Johnson to build a new arena.

Yah I think they needed to do some damage control too, but the Maloof hater in me says I will keep my eye on them.

Sweet. I got you to say the Maloofs did something "necessary"!!

In my hatin' I may come across like I don't understand their angle or perspective, but I do. it's not so much what they did but how they did it that put them on my **** list. Honestly, if they'd have gone to Kevin Johnson and said look, if there isn't a viable arena plan in place within a year, we're filing for relocation, I wouldn't even have blamed them. But instead they were sneaky about it and blindsided the mayor at the last minute by extending the relocation deadline. I mean he's the mayor and an NBA legend for crying out loud, you couldn't even give him a courtesy call? I dunno, that's just how I see it. I think there's an ethical and decent way to conduct business and a slimy weasley way to conduct business and the Maloofs have definitely been operating in the latter category for awhile now.

Of course we know they wanted to move. But it will do zero good to hate them over this or anything else. They are the owners of the team we love and want to keep in Sacramento. The city and the fans are going to have to work with the Maloofs to get a new arena done.

For the time being we need to bury the hatchet and have everybody working together for the most important goal, a new arena. I for one and going to accept the fact that this is who owns the team I love. To support my team means I'm going to have to support the Maloofs to some extent. Some of that support will have to come from my wallet.

The league is going to have people right here in Sacramento to keep an eye on both sides. They Maloofs had to say something along these lines to try and mend fences. What did you expect them to say? KJ said the Maloofs called him this morning and said they were going to be 100% cooperative and onboard with trying to get an arena done. We all need to be 100% cooperative, too.

True but financial survival also includes the option of selling the team. If I were in that much hot water and knew that a risky move would also hurt a ton of fans in a one horse market, I'd seriously consider selling the business that has the largest sale price.

Problem is a) the Palms is pretty much sunk no matter what. They are and were better off just writing off all their losses and if they wanted a casino so bad starting from scratch with the BevCo proceeds and b) they may or may not be overleveraged on the Kings so who knows what is left to pull out of it and c) no matter how badly they mismanage the Kings if moving and rebranding the team is a viable option they just have to ride it out unlike the Palms where riding it out has ruined the family.
