Oakland and Pacers hunting Harrington

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - The Al Harrington era in Atlanta is close to becomming officially over. The Hawks are actively looking to complete a sign and trade deal, possibly involving Indiana or Golden State.

"As of right now it's pretty clear to me that I won't be back in a Hawks uniform next year," Harrington said by phone Monday afternoon from his offseason home in Los Angeles. "It's pretty much a wrap for me there.

"I have a genuine interest in both of those teams," he said. "My only focus is getting back to the playoffs and eventually competing for a championship. I thought we were getting better and heading in that direction [in Atlanta], but sometimes it's time to move on."

Think getting Al would lessen their chances of trying to get Bonzi. Since I'm not sure we'd do a S/T for Foster/Harrison or AJ.

If Harrington's only focus is getting back to the playoffs, why is he considering the Warriors? Even Indiana doesn't have as good a chance as they used to--their depth is depleting.

Reading the Pacers board, a lot of them are pretty interested in getting Harrington back...

Yup. I and they think a Harrington/JO/Granger front-court would be versatile and fun.

Then you got Shawne Williams and James White on the bench.

I hope Oakland gets him.

There ya go!

Nice to hear a Pacers fan admit that. Al...is overrated. Tweener. Nice to have as a moderately priced backup behind two stars in O'Neal and Artest, but dropping some mega-deal and trading away lots of assets so he can come an either be a soft 4 and shift Jermaine out of position, or a slow 3 and bench Granger is just shaky.

Of course talent is talent, and I'm not sure how the Pacers can start to rebuild their talent pool without some move like that -- he and Bonzi are really the best FAs left unless you want to go nab Van Horn.

Actually, Granger could well start at the two this year, depending on who they have at the other wing spot of course. If what I've heard is right and he's working on his dribbling skills.
