Denver Post - French free-agent rookie Yakhouba Diawara said Sunday that he expects to sign a contract with the Nuggets today or Tuesday, Marc Spears from the Denver Post is reporting.

Diawara is expected to sign a two-year deal, worth $1.1 million. The former Southern Idaho Junior College and Pepperdine swingman played on the Nuggets' summer league team and stood out defensively. He also plans on staying in Denver the rest of the offseason in preparation for next season.

"I can't wait to start," Diawara said. "They are trying to bring in a lot of young kids to play high tempo. It's a good fit for me (shooting guard and small forward). I can also play some good defense."

Saw some of him in the summer league, seems like an interesting player. Could well be a diamond in the rough.

Denver Post - Yakhouba Diawara, a native of Paris, turned down a reported two-year, $1.8 million offer from the Dallas Mavericks to sign with the Nuggets on Wednesday, according to a report in the Denver Post. Terms of the deal were not released, but it is expected to be a two-year deal at the league minimum.

"His integrity and character jumped off the page," Nuggets director of player personnel Mark Warkentien said. "After verbally agreeing to a minimum deal with us, and being offered a bigger deal, he turned it down. He is the type of person we want representing Denver."

Diawara said, "I think it was a better fit for me."

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Diawara can play shooting guard and small forward for coach George Karl.

"(Karl) was the reason I came here. They played me at summer camp," Diawara said. "I've been here for a couple weeks and I'm just comfortable. Sometimes when you are comfortable you just go with it."

Mavs tried to get another athletic wing to try and replace Daniels and Marshall... good.

Intrigued by Diawarra, could be a nice find for the Nuggs.
