Nuggets’ Anthony arrested for DUI

DENVER (TICKER) —Denver Nuggets star forward Carmelo Anthony was arrested Monday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Denver police stated that Anthony was driving south on Interstate 25 roughly around 4 a.m. when he was pulled over and taken into custody. Investigators said he was driving a silver Mercedes that was stopped for failing to drive in a single lane and failing to dim lights................

I can never understand why multi-millionaire pro athletes just don't take a limo or have a hired driver when out partying at 4 AM. I suppose Anthony will get out of this one without much consequence like he did two other similar "incidents" with the law in Denver and St. Louis.

Agreed. I had one in 2001 (one year removed from college I was still in my college party mode) and it was the stupidest thing I have done in my life to date. On the contrary, unlike many others, I decided one mistake is enough and I haven't had a single sip of alcohol since 2001.

Good for you. Obviously the penalty you suffered was enough for you to realize your mistake and correct it. I wonder if these "chosen few" like Anthony or Musselman even care much - with all the millions of dollars they wake up to every day. That's right, because even when you were 16, 17 you were completely responsible, and never did anything dumb in your teens and early twenties.

That's right, because even when you were 16, 17 you were completely responsible, and never did anything dumb in your teens and early twenties.

That's not aimed specifically at you Warhawk, but it just happens in the media all the time.

Did I do dumb things? Sure. I accidentally burned a stack of wood pallets my dad was saving. The firemen that responded got sprayed by a skunk that was hiding in the pile at the time. Um, I wrecked my car when some punks threw something at my car windshield on Halloween night and I panicked and swerved instead of running into it. Oh, I also started dating my friend's ex-GF without verifying with him first that it was OK. Probably a few others in there, too. But I was smart enough to not drink and drive. In fact, I was often the designated driver for our group of friends. We knew enough to be prepared when we went out. Not to plan ahead is just plain stupid.

Then apparently you hang around the wrong crowd. No one here is claiming to be perfect. Far from it. What many of us can claim is that we have never risked people's lives by driving under the influence.

I did not drink at all as teenager. I drink very little as an adult. The few occasions when I have had too much, I definitely was not driving. When I do choose to drink if I'm driving, it's one drink, period, then I go non-alcoholic. I also make sure I don't get behind the wheel unitl enough time has passed since that one drink for my body to have processed it.

Because I am so careful, I'll tell you what irritates me. People who just assume I want to be their designated driver so they can get plastered.

Anthony is just plain stupid and irresponsible. He's plenty old enough and smart enough to know better. I'm sure he can afford a cab or has plenty of friends he could have called to pick him up and drive him home. What a complete juvenile moron. No excuse.

The issue is that a very publiclized, young, highly paid, borderline superstar NBA player did one of the most asinine acts possible. He could of injured or killed someone. A LOT of people here know someone or knows someone that knows someone who have been negatively affected by drinking and driving. Your arguments will not receive any sympathy among the rational, nor should they.

Also, to quote my mother, my grandmother, my grandfather, my aunts, uncles, etc, etc, etc, "Just because someone else did it, it doesn't make it ok."

In my case I had made a right choice not to drive, but in my drunken stupor (I blew .24), while waiting for my friend to unlock the door of his house (where I was to spend a night) I went to my car (I'd assume to get something but who knows) and drove 50 feet and hit a parked car.

You have no idea how many times I counted my lucky stars. It could have been a person I hit instead of the car. The experience was reason enough for me to never trust myself with alcohol again and hence I have not had a drink in over 7 years now.

I think anyone (including me) who gets behind the wheel in any illegal capacity is not the brightest and very selfish. Even worse is that I had to go to groups (not AA) as a part of my court supervision and I was one of the few who had only one DUI.
